League of Pathfinders: Bandle Gunner Archetype
In my continued work on the League of Pathfinders setting, I've created an archetype (and modified an existing feat) meant for yordles. So, I present to you Bandle Gunner gunslinger archetype! Please let me know your thoughts.
BANDLE GUNNER Short in stature, Bandle gunners are a fearsome force who make use of oversized firearms, their natural agility, and explosives to route their foes.
Deeds: A Bandle gunner swaps a pair of deeds for the following.
Bombs (Ex): At 1st level, a Bandle gunner can spend an hour to prepare any number of bombs but must spend 1 grit per bomb created. She cannot regain grit spent on a bomb until she uses the bomb or after 24 hours, at which point the bomb goes inert and she regains her grit. Drawing and throwing a bomb is a standard action that provokes an attack of opportunity. Thrown bombs have a range of 20 feet and use the Thrown Splash Weapon special attack. Bombs are considered weapons and can be selected using feats such as Point-Blank Shot and Weapon Focus. On a direct hit, the gunner’s bomb deals 1d6 points of fire damage. The damage of the gunner’s bomb increases by 1d6 points at every level where the gunner gains new deeds (maximum 6d6 at 19th level). This damage is not multiplied on a critical hit or by using feats such as Vital Strike. Splash damage from a gunner’s bomb is always equal to the bomb’s minimum damage. Those caught in the splash can attempt a Reflex save for half damage. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + ½ the gunner’s level + the gunner’s Wisdom modifier. A gunner’s bomb becomes inert if used or carried by anyone else. This replaces the deadeye deed.
Incoming! (Ex): While wielding an oversized firearm, a Bandle gunner can spend 1 grit point and take a standard action to fire her weapon at the ground, provoking an attack of opportunity. Doing so allows her to make an Acrobatics check to jump as though she had a running start. A Bandle gunner can target an occupied square to jump to, using her Acrobatics check as her attack roll against the target’s AC if she succeeds at the jump check. The target of the jump gets an attack of opportunity against the Bandle gunner. If she hits, the Bandle gunner deals firearm damage + the gunner’s Dexterity bonus and the target is dazed for 1 round. The gunner lands in an adjacent square between her target and her point of origin. This replaces the targeting deed.
Explosive Discovery (Ex): At any level when a Bandle gunner gains a bonus feat, she can instead learn an alchemist discovery. This discovery must be one that effects bombs and that the gunner meets the prerequisites for, treating her gunslinger levels as alchemist levels for the purpose of meeting prerequisites. Whenever a Bandle gunner prepares her bombs, she decides what discoveries to apply to them, if any. Only a single discovery can be applied to a bomb at a time. This ability alters a gunslinger’s bonus feats.
Yordle Feats Yordle Gunslinger (Combat) You have learned how to fire the big guns. Prerequisite: Yordle Benefit: You can wield Medium firearms without taking the penalty for an inappropriately sized weapon. Normal: You take a -2 penalty when using an inappropriately sized weapon.
So, right off the bat, I'm a little tentative about the bombs. I think they progress at a slow enough rate and are so limited that they won't be an issue, but some additional feedback on it would be much appreciated.
The feat is simply a retool of the Goblin Gunslinger (Advanced Race Guide 118) and something I like for the yordles.
