Copycat (Champion Concept)

Hi friends, here’s a champion concept for a copycat style champion with weird and funky abilities.

Copycat

Mime (Passive): Copy the AD, AP, and AS of the nearest enemy champion.

False Binding (Q): Sends out a linear skillshot dealing magic damage to the first target struck and slowing the target by 99% for a few seconds. Killing a target with this ability causes it to continue traveling.

Bizarre Shield (W): Shields a target with an extra massive shield, but the shield breaks one second after any damage is taken.

Mirror (E): For half a second, reflect all projectiles and instances of damage from the target direction. Reflected damage and projectiles deal reduced damage.

Trick Force (R): Places an EXTREMELY large 700-radius area under trick force for 15 seconds. Trick force doubles the resource consumption of enemy champions in the area and reduces their damage dealt.

are you trying to break the game?

nerf R or Q, 99 seems like a lot if its not 1 second. 15 seconds seems long too

Okay look can R be like he mimic a champions ability

I think the R is fine concept wise, interesting even, but 15 seconds is a bit long. The Q seems cool too, but 99% seems like a high number too. I also have a question, what role is this champ meant to be played in?

As the others before me may have commented, there appears to be some fine tuning that must be addressed before considering to move this idea to its ultimate form. Thematics will play a huge role into this champion's development but we can focus on the abilities themselves for right now. (We can talk theme and background story once we get the numbers worked out) We should probably start off with the passive:

Mime (Passive): Copy the AD, AP, and AS of the nearest enemy champion.

This is basically a static effect unless we can transition it into percentages as the game progressed (ex. 10/30/50% of the nearest enemy champion's AD, AP and AS.) If we do this we can begin to tweak the numbers to find a middle ground where it won't be completely busted, but as it stands... it very busted lol. For starters this passive alone means that Copycat can simply build tank and leech off the enemy adc's stats and become borderline unstoppable. We would first have to find a way to allow this passive to work in today's meta. As stated earlier, I would suggest percentages with the highest achievable percentage being no greater than 50% as anything above that would be a nightmare to balance. We could alternatively add a limit to the ability (ex. gain these bonuses for 1.5/2/2.5 seconds) which could potentially allow Copycat to copy 100% of the enemy champion's stats but only if the limit is reasonable. This would then be followed up with a static cooldown before he could use his passive again. My last note on this would be the name. "Mime" doesn't quite fit the theme of a copycat, so perhaps we could change that? Here is my take on a couple of edits that could be made:

  • Watch and Learn (Passive): Copycat marks and studies the nearest enemy champion for 3 seconds. Afterwards, he gains 20/35/50% of that champion's bonus AD, AP, and AS until he moves out of range. Copycat must wait 15 seconds before using this ability again (lowered by cooldown reduction).

Again these are just my suggestions and I would move Copycat's passive more into line with, say, Quinn's passive which warns the enemy of incoming doom. Marking the enemy champion would allow for some counter play and a 3 second window of opportunity is plenty of time. Please also note that Copycat will only gain bonus stats which is something to put into consideration. If he were to start the game with his own stats AND steal his enemies' stats... that's a no no lol. That's an absurd level 1 power spike! I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that Copycat would be played as a support with carry capabilities. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Moving on to his abilities!

False Binding (Q): Sends out a linear skillshot dealing magic damage to the first target struck and slowing the target by 99% for a few seconds. Killing a target with this ability causes it to continue traveling.

Now... I get what you're going for on this one. It's a slow soooooo powerful that it feels like it may as well be coded as a root. Lol pretty cool! But we have to take into consideration the duration and the cooldown. This is an easy fix tbh. The ability as it stands is no more complicated than Lulu's current Q with a 80% slow (which is absurd in and of itself) or Thresh's R with an actual 99% slow, but that's just it... Thresh has such a strong slow as his R and Copycat has that same power in a basic ability? Hmmm... let's take a closer look! In order to fix this ability (as it stands it's pretty broken) we have to give it MAJOR drawbacks or lower the numbers a bit. The way I see it, this ability can be split into two versions. One that slows for 99% but lasts no more than a second with a long cooldown, or one that slows for a smaller amount (80-90%) which can last slightly longer and has a moderate cooldown. Your pick. As for the damage, Riot likes to keep utility abilities in check in terms of scaling, but will often times give them high base damage, so something along the lines of-

  • False Binding (Q): Copycat launches a projectile in a target direction slowing the first enemy unit struck by 99% for .5/.65/.80/.95/1 seconds and dealing 70/115/160/205/250 (+40% AP) magic damage. Killing a target with this ability causes it to continue traveling. TARGET RANGE: 1000 SPEED: 1100 COST: 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 COOLDOWN: 18/17/16/15/14

I chose to depict the option that allows for a 99% slow since this is hilarious and see this option as being more on theme with a wacky magical trickster. As you can see, the cooldown on this ability will be its main concern BUT it will also be very useful for setting up sneaky bindings if you're able to kill the creep in front of the enemy champions (think of it like MF's Q) I can deferentially see this ability being used in a Copycat montage! Yes a 99% slow is loaded in a basic ability but given the ridiculously low duration this will only function as setup for a more potent follow up. I would give this a trial run in the PBE. Why not? :P Next up we have the W!

Bizarre Shield (W): Shields a target with an extra massive shield, but the shield breaks one second after any damage is taken.

I want to take this time and try and convince you to make this a spell shield for two very simple reasons. 1.) The effect is basically a spell shield already, it's just worded a little different. and 2.) there is more potential for adaptation. Let me explain. Copycat is supposed to be a trickster and what would frustrate your enemies more if not some dude walking around saving people from abilities?! This champion could revolutionize the botlane as a Morgana alternative, in fact... he could be the first counter to Morgana as funny as that may sound lol. We can go about your version but the truth of the matter is that the amount of the shield wouldn't matter since it would dissipate after being struck once (similar to how spell shields function, since they are basically a one time use). We could say that the shield value is 2,000 (+120% AP and +140% AD and +220% Bonus Health... but it would still break after one tiny Nami W... kinda anti climatic if you ask me. Now if we made this a spell shield... woah... now THAT would be awesome! Nothing in lines of Sivir's spell shield that gives her mana, nor does it need to give any bonuses at all. In fact, keeping it a simple spell shield is probably the easiest way to go about this. If we were to add bonuses like attack speed, or movement speed then we would be condemning this ability to be hotfixed removed as soon as it hit the serves, but let's keep is simple and use both Sivir and Morgana as references for this ability.

  • Bizarre Shield (W): Copycat shields a target from the next ability for 2 seconds. TARGET RANGE: 800 COST: 60 / 67.5 / 75 / 82.5 / 90 COOLDOWN: 25/22/19/16/13

Simple. Clean. Clutch. Easy to punish with a long cooldown, but with the potential to turn fights into your favor. The cooldown/mana cost will more than likely need to be play tested since these numbers are based off prior champions and this champion concept would be introducing something that Riot has never done before which is an on-demand spell shield that can be given to an ally. Truly game changing and I see a lot of people being against this idea, but it's bound to happen... so... why not now?

Before moving on with the final two abilities I would like to thank everyone for reading this far T__T It really means a lot that ya'll have stuck around with this post to read my thoughts on this wonderful creation that Shirotaki has decided to share with us. These suggestions are simply that... suggestions and by no mean do I wish to step on the OP's toes nor do I wish to make his creation my own. No no! This is simple criticism with improvements that will allow for a more cohesive creation that is easier to digest by the viewers and steering it into a direction that Riot may look at this post and say "Hmmm... this is something to consider." That can only be achieved through constructive criticism from the community which I hope I've done a good job at creating! So again, thank ya'll so much! BUT.. moving on to the next two abilities... errr... wait... what do you mean you want to swap them?

Let me explain. Lol

Copycat is... well... a Copycat, it's literally in his name (not sure if that's the finalized name of the champion but I'm going off what I see) His ultimate should be his signature move, his defining spell that will get people to say "ahhh this makes total thematic sense" and right now Copycat's current ultimate doesn't scream copy-cat-trickster-mage-rage-inducer, but his E does! So here is my two cents with his old R (which I would suggest be transitioned into a basic ability).

  • Trick Force (E): Copycat creates a 350-radius zone at a target location that lasts for 6/7/8/9/10 seconds. The zone reduces enemy champion's damage dealt by 6/7/8/9/10%. TARGET RANGE: 1200 EFFECT RADIUS: 350 COST: 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 COOLDOWN: 18/17/16/15/14

Wow... T___T I need two posts to finish talking about what I want to talk about... wow. I'll go ahead and publish this half but please also look for the followup post that further explains this first post. Sorry for the unprofessionalism.
