A little advice when creating a [Champion Concept].

Wirelessly·7/23/2015, 4:28:43 PM·24 votes·3,233 views

If you want your Champion reviewed, post their full name in the comments (example: Teemo, The Satan Spawn). For those who want to see if my reviews are credible, here is a Champion I made:

Arna, The Free Spirit

Shameless self-promotion is shameless. Don't judge me.

A lot of people post Champion Concepts on this page, but not all of them are prize winning ideas. I assume that everyone's goal when posting here is to tell Riot "HEY RIOT LOOK AT MY CHAMPION HE/SHE IS AMAZING! YOU SHOULD MAKE HIM/HER!". If not excuse my ignorance.

Stop. Stop right there fellow Teemo-Haters.

Posting with that goal in mind is fine, but if you want Riot and other summoners to take notice of your Champion, you have to make your Champion worth noticing. Here are 5 tips when making a Champion:

  1. Sticking To A Theme: I see a lot of Champions with a very cool theme, but their abilities don't deliver on that theme. For each ability, ask yourself: Does this ability fit with the theme/personality of my Champion? You might have thought of a sick ability with a brand new mechanic, but the fact of the matter is that it doesn't make sense that your blood-thirsty, cold-hearted, murder-loving Champion is healing your allies. THEME IS KEY!

  2. A Unique Design: Your Champion should offer something new--something that no other Champion in the league has brought to the table. If your Champion doesn't bring something fresh to the Fields of Justice, then Riot won't bother making it (because they've already made it). And while it's okay to give your Champion abilities that are similar to the abilities of other Champions in the League, your Champion should, at the very least, make use of that ability in a different way.

  3. A Balanced Kit: No one likes a game dominated by a single Champion/strategy, so don't make your Champion that person/thing. Compare your Champion's number to that of similar Champions in the League. If you're making an AP top laner, compare his/her/it's numbers with that of other AP top laners like Rumble and Vladimir. After adjusting your numbers, make sure that your Champion's new unique mechanic (see number 2 on this list) can't be abused in any situation. Something that is balanced in Team Fights might not be balanced in the Laning Phase, or vice versa.

  4. Play As Your Champion: I don't mean that you should hack Riot and make your Champion so you can play them. Play them in your mind. Play out your Champion's Laning Phase, Team Fights, Poking, etc. Every scenario you can think of. This can help you determine your Champion's strengths and weaknesses, and weaknesses in a Champion are just as important as strengths. This can also help you determine if your Champion has an ability/mechanic that can be abused.

  5. Pros and Cons: Make a list of your Champion's pros and cons. This will help you identify who your Champion is weak against and who your Champion is strong against. If your Champion has many more pros that cons, perhaps consider some nerfs? And if it's vice versa, maybe some buffs are in order? You don't have to write these pros and cons in the Champion Concept. You can if you want to, but these are mainly for you.

Anyway, those are my 5 tips to make a good Champion. Pick a Theme, make it Unique, make it Balanced, **Test **it out, give Buffs and Nerfs if necessary. Again, if you have a Champion and would like it reviewed, post their full name in the comments (example: Teemo, The Satan Spawn).

So, I would submit a Could-be champion and have it reviewed, but since I'm kinda new to the game and only have about 137 hours in, I only want to suggest a champion who use's totems (stationary buff emitters) to support his or her team-mates.

Yay! Someone finally made a hub! I was going to soon, but you have saved me the effort. Many thanks to you!

Nijon, the Five-Pronged Blade

Mathon, the Ascended Minion

Polemistis, the Warrior

Genjo, the Gunmaster (NEW)

SwipeZ's Slashing Hub Center for Champs/Reviews (Not mine, this is from the old forums, but it has links to a ton of great ideas, including my old hub. Don't forget to vote!)

Mortamose, The Mage of eternal curses (Not mine, also from old forum, but if you want to review I can talk to the creator about the changes)

Hope you enjoy!

(These are all reposted from the old forums. The Hub is a link to the archive, and I'll hopefully have some new ideas posted soon)

Hello Wirelessly, I had an idea for a new champion, but its not fully complete. I don't have a firm grasp on the name so I've been using gibberish. Ogrog. Anyway, he's got awesome(I think) abilities that actually match him, (he's a zombie-type champion) and i was wondering if you had any suggestions for him. I've got 3 of his 5 abilities, his passive, q and w, but I'm still searching on the other 2, his e and r. Do you have any advice? Anyways, I've started to get his lore down, and tried to make him not as OP as i wanted him to be. I know one of his Friends will be Yorick but i don't know much else. Can you help me? Thank you for reading my message, i hope you'll reply. MinotaursWrath

I got an idea. But should I name the abilities and describe their effects, along with the name of the character?

Absolutely beautiful advice. I would definitely recommend this to not only those just starting in the Boards (or making concepts in general), but even us veterans out here. As a fairly regular concept creator, and someone who has been on both sides (judging and entry) of MCCC's and CCOS's, the tips you've listed out are quite invaluable.

+1 to you friend!

Added a new champ, and I've got a lore contest ready. The winner (determined by me and any upvotes you send their way), gets the incredible (and slightly dubious) honor of having his/her username on Genjo's page, his link on this page, and by linking on all of my other champs.

Hope you enjoy!

my idea for a champ goes like this... i haven't named what it would be yet but...

FORM it would have two forms, the first one would make the champ ranged and each spell/AA would cost health.that form's range would be very large, just smaller than lvl 18 tristanna. the next form would be melee form, in this form the champs spells would cost mana but she/he/it would have 20% LS and SV when the form abillity is max.

ABILITIES His/Her/It's passive would give him/her/it a slow on his abilities and AAs in ranged form, and (idk what in melee) his/her/it's Q would make him/her/it change from melee to ranged form, and vice versa his/her/it,s W would make him/her/it dash in ranged form, and have a bigger dash in melee form his/her/it's E would make him/her/it gain armor and mr in melee form, and movement speed in melee form his/her/it,s R would be a jinx rocket in ranged form, and a warwick/ maybe malphite engage

STATS in melee form, him/her/it would be AD based in ranged form him/her/it would be AP based

COMMON SENSE ON HOW TO BUILD A Trinity Force would be good to build, but people could build AP/AD to focus on one form

CHARACTER I would like you guys to make this champ some lore and a character.

FINAL MESSAGE PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ UPvote this so riot will see this and make it a 7800 ip cham along with tahm kench

Zavenos, the Commissar

I am still working on the lore, and concept pieces, but I have abilities and stats up!

Dear Wirelessly, I was thinking about the lore that Ogrog should have. I think maybe he should've been a normal person that was like a blacksmith or woodcutter and that he was raised as a ghoul for yorick but that he was different then the others. smarter. stronger. Yorick realized that and decided to let him free. After he left he was walking on the edge of the road when people talking caught his eye. they were saying that they thought that yorick would win the league of legends thing. He wanted to see if he could do better then the one who brought him from the grave and decided to join. Just a thought Sincerely MinotaursWrath

This is great advice. Honestly, I think even riot should review your first rule when it comes to champ design.

(Looking at you, new fiora. who's a duelist, but has an AOE heal ult for some reason)

vaxionic7/24/2015, 11:34:45 PM1 votes

would you mind reviewing my champion concept? i believe i developed a very strong, unique champion in accordance with a lot of these "rules". Its Talia - The Trap Artist http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/2ngmHE9L-champion-concept-talia-the-trap-artist?show=new

So far this thread has been doing great! :D

I'm glad to see that people are finding the tips I posted to be good ones.

I apologize if you've posted a Champion on here that has not yet been reviewed. I am only one person---one person with life shit to wipe off my life ass. Also, sometimes your Champion can get lost in the comments, but I will search, and I will find it. I also try to review at least 1 Champion per summoner to make it fair for everyone.

Thanks for the love fellow Teemo-Haters :D

Will you look at Picassa, Artist Extraordinaire?

Here's the link: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/rFY3Q4EF-picassa-artist-extraordinaire-middle-lane-mage-concept

The Lore is just place holder.

Candurill7/28/2015, 2:16:36 PM1 votes

Maybe an idea to feature the champions you've reviewed in the main article? :P or at least those you found to have a lot of potential?

Great post, upvote.

ModWulf Helhammer7/23/2015, 4:37:24 PM1 votes

They should probably sticky this on the champ concept board

Candurill7/23/2015, 6:27:48 PM1 votes

Was this meant as a hub? XP Well in that case...i made a few champs :P and i believe they fit these rules perfectly :D Two of my best are: Chayon, The Shepherd of the Afterlife Sham'a, The Candle-Maker

This one is my newest...and it still needs some reworking :P Puck, The Fea Adventurer
