Galio Rework [Champion Rework Concept]

Hey guys! With the announcement of the Galio rework, I thought I'd take a crack and see what I could come up with myself. Now, I admit that I've never played Galio. I don't even own the Champion. BUT, I think his theme allows for a rather... interesting ability. The ability I'm talking about is his W. The idea of it makes me laugh, but it's also perfect for Galio in my opinion. With this rework, I focused on making him a supportive tank, like Alistar, Braum, or Leona, except I took Galio in a direction that focuses more on protecting his team as opposed to being an initiator.

Watchful Eye (Passive): Galio’s vision range is increased by 300/400/500/600 (levels 1, 6, 11, and 16). If an enemy Champion spends 2 seconds in Galio’s vision range, they will be marked with Watchful Eye, reducing their Magic Resist by 10/20/30/40. The mark disappears if Galio loses sight of the enemy Champion.

Explanation: In his current kit, Galio's Q, Resolute Smite, shoots from his eyes. That got me thinking about a Champion that plays on the idea of sight. Furthermore, Galio does feel like the type of Champion who watches people (what a creeper), so this passive feels right to me.

Overwhelming Winds (Q): Galio flaps his wings, sending out a slow moving but powerful gust of wind in a target direction. The gust of wind deals 120/155/210/255/300 (+100% Ability Power) magic damage and drags all enemy units it hits in the direction it’s travelling for 1 second. While being dragged, enemy units face the direction opposite of the gust’s trajectory (which is practically always going to mean that they will face Galio’s direction). Cast Range: 1500 Projectile Speed: 250 units per second Projectile Width: 350/400/450/500/550 Cost: 80/85/90/95/100 mana Cooldown: 22/19/16/13/10 seconds

Explanation: A rework of his Righteous Gust ability. This ability is like a moving Wind Wall that drags enemies hit with it for 1 second as it travels. It also forces enemies hit to look in Galio's direction, which is important. The damage is on the higher end because it's a slow moving skillshot, which can make it hard to hit.

Idol of Durand (W): Toggle: Galio takes the form of a statue, becoming unable to move, increasing his Armor and Magic Resist by 70/80/90/100/110 (+5 per level) (+5 per 50 Ability Power), and becoming impassable terrain. Being hit by CC that prevents the use of abilities while this ability is toggled on will disable it for 8 seconds (affected by Cooldown Reduction). Cast Range: Self Cost: 10/15/20/25/30 mana per second while toggled on Cooldown: 0.5 seconds Galio’s size as impassible terrain: 200-unit radius (a little larger than Trundle's Pillar of Ice)

Explanation: I don't think I need to say anything to justify this ability's existence. Galio is a statue. This ability turns him into a statue. Activate it and spam laugh as your enemies spend 60 seconds trying to kill you. Unless they CC you, in which case RIP.

Righteous Protector (E): For the next 4/4.5/5/5.5/6 seconds, if an ally Champion near Galio is targeted by an enemy Champion’s targeted ranged projectile (ability or basic attack), Galio will redirect the attack to himself. After the first 2 seconds, Galio can reactivate this ability to cancel it early. Cast Range: Self AoE Range: 400 Cost: 60 mana at all ranks Cooldown: 20/17/14/11/8 seconds (cooldown begins after the ability’s duration expires)

Explanation: This ability is Galio's way of tanking damage for his allies, but his allies have to have the presence of mind to stay close to him because, while this ability is active, you'll probably have Idol of Durand toggled on. Therefore, it falls on your carries to stay close to you, not the other way around.

Resolute Leer (R): Galio channels for 2.5 seconds. All enemy Champions who are marked with Watchful Eye and facing Galio’s direction will be taunted during the channel. At the end of the channel, Galio deals 200/300/400 (+50% Ability Power) magic damage in an area around him to all nearby enemy units him. The base damage of this ability is increased by 20 each time Galio is hit by a basic attack or single target spell during the channel.
Cast Range: Self AoE Damage Range: 550 Cost: 100 mana at all ranks Cooldown: 120/100/80 seconds

Explanation: A variation of his current ult. The biggest difference is the counter-play. You won't get caught in the ult as long you don't look at Galio.

Overall Gameplay:

With this rework, Galio becomes a supportive tank. His gameplay would heavily revolve around positioning yourself correctly, toggling on Idol of Durand, and becoming a sort of sanctuary for your carries. Galio would also need to focus on activating his ult at the most opportune moment. Even if your enemy doesn't look at you, that's 2.5 seconds that your enemy can't look in your general direction.

The new passive idea is kind of cool, but other than that and the W, you nerfed the living hell out of a champion that's currently at a balanced level and people aren't playing much.

Q does pretty much no damage as it takes almost no time to look another direction and immediately back. Hell, people are already doing that just cause of the way they move about the lane to make themselves unpredictable to skill shots.

I'm not sure exactly what you're going for with W, but it looks like you want the shape of Yasuo's windwall, the damage of Galio's current E, and the CC of Galio's current W. Not really the worst idea, but the limited range is going to be annoying since his gap closer would depend on his ult.

The E is either going to require you to go into a fight and stand still for 2 seconds first, or it's going to kill you nearly instantly so that your team can survive a bit longer.

The ult change is the absolute biggest nerf imaginable. You took away the best thing about Galio and replaced it with a movement ability. That eliminates the majority of his damage and ability to teamfight.

Galio's passive, Q, and E make sense to change if you do them right. But his W and ult are completely necessary to keep his gameplay. Otherwise you might as well just make a new champion. I can only recommend making it to where the W heals whoever you cast it on when they take damage instead of just Galio. Otherwise, those 2 abilities need to stay pretty much the same.

Keep the taunt somehow. That's his most iconic ability. Otherwise, I think this is very cool and well though out.

Maybe keep his taunt in his passive somehow? Additionally his ult is cool but its really similar to Aurelion Sol's E.

Made a lot of changes, primarily moving around abilities and changing his ult.
