Champion Concept: Arna, The Free Spirit

Wirelessly·7/21/2015, 3:16:59 PM·13 votes·4,263 views

Hello my fellow Leaguers, I give you my Champion, Arna, The Free Spirit. PLEASE VOTE AT THE END OF THE THREAD AND LEAVE A COMMENT IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY. THANKS :D

Pros:

High sustained damage Abilities have no cost Great against most forms of CC Amazing synergy with stasis (Zhonya's, Tahm Kench's W, etc...) Effective scout with her Spirit form Safe Laning Phase

Cons:

Weak against poke Weak against skill shots Very weak against Silences Body is extremely vulnerable Difficult to master Low burst damage

Allies: Bard
Rivals: Mordekaiser

League of Legends Champion Concept: Arna, The Free Spirit

PLAY STYLE:

LANING: With the ability to leave her Body close to her turret, Arna can opt into a super safe laning phase, but doing reduces a lot of her all in potential because her Body isn't close by. To trade, you want to start by getting your E onto your lane opponent, either by directly casting it on them or bouncing it off minions. Then, dash onto them with your Q for the stun, land some basic attacks, and then retreat to your Body, using your passive's shield to help you win the trade. When going all in, execute your trading combo and then, instead of returning to your Body, use your W to make it come to you, fearing your lane opponent and getting even more basic attacks in.

DUELING: In a 1v1 situation, Arna has the sustained damage and tools to overpower and/or outplay her opponent, and she can definitely hold her own as a split pusher. This being said, her dueling potential is not up there with the likes of Tryndamere and Jax, so don't get too carried away.

SKIRMISHES: This is where Arna excels; small 2v2 or 3v3 fights that are drawn out. No one really wants to commit to an all in because it's not a full team fight, and you want that long fight. In skirmishes (and team fights), you have 3 things to do: keep your Body safe, get your E onto priority targets, and maximize your E's damage by entering/exiting your Body. Your Body is less likely to get piled on and blown up (unless they have that fed LeBlanc, in which case it's already GG let's be real.) Your passive's shield can also in very clutch here as your Body gets lower and lower on health.

TEAM FIGHTS: Team fighting with Arna is the same as skirmishing, except everything becomes harder because there are more enemy Champions to keep track of. More threats to your idle Body. More Champions that your E can bounce (and maybe you didn't want your E to bounce to that Galio stacking his magic resistance.)

Appearance:

This is what I have so far. And yes, Arna is a spirit inside a suit of armor. She's self-conscious about it, so don't judge her. Having only 1 arm is intentional though. She has no left arm.

WEAPON:
http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/3317206136040640929/B1CBC8D210E559F2B50633A9E7A2E92287584DDB/

Maybe a little less crazy looking, but you get the idea. Also, this image is from Google. I can't draw this well (don't judge me).

ABILITIES:

(Passive) Body And Spirit This passive is here to explain her Spirit mechanic. Further details about her Spirit mechanic can be found further down the post.

Some of Arna’s abilities cause her to exit her Body after use, becoming a Spirit—an invulnerable, untargetable, and stealthed unit that can act independently of her Body. Her Body remains as an idle Champion on the field that can be damaged like any other Champion. Arna's Spirit can be seen by enemy Champions that have been damaged by her Spirit since the last time she exited a Body. Arna’s resource bar, Soul Essence, tracks the amount of time she can be a Spirit. Arna can have a maximum of 100 Soul Essence. While Arna is out of her own Body, she loses 14/12/10/8 Soul Essence per second (levels 1, 6, 11, and 16). If Arna reaches 0 Soul Essence while she's out of her own Body, she will be forced back into her Body. Soul Essence is gained through her E and R abilities (see E and R abilities for details). Turrets can still target and damage Arna while she's a Spirit.

While in Spirit from, Arna's basic attacks deal magic damage instead of physical damage. Additionally, Arna's basic attacks while in Spirit form do not scale with bonus AD from items, runes, masteries, and/or buffs, but they do apply on-hit effects.

(Passive) Spirit Veil

When Arna exits a Body, she “locks-in” her current health. When Arna enters a Body, if her Spirit's "locked-in" health is greater than the Body's current health, she gains a damage blocking shield equal to 25/30/35/40% (+1% per 100 maximum health) (upgrades with each rank of Poltergeist) of the difference between her Body’s current health and her Spirit’s “locked-in” health. The shield lasts for 2.5 seconds. This shield cannot stack with itself.

Note: A Body. Not only her own Body. **A **Body. This is important to note for her ult.

(Q) Free Soul

In her Body: Arna dashes out of her Body to a target location, becoming a Spirit and dealing 80/135/190/245/300 (+70% Ability Power) magic damage to all nearby enemy units. If the unit marked with the Spirit Glaive is damaged by this ability, that marked unit will be stunned for 1 second. The cooldown of this ability is reduced by 1 second each time Arna triggers the Spirit Glaive while she's in her Body.

As a Spirit: Arna returns to her own Body at a speed of 2500 units per second. (The further you are from your Body, the longer it takes for you to return to it.)

Note: While Arna's Spirit is invisible, enemy units can still see the animations of her exiting and entering her Body.

Cooldown: 11/10/9/8/7 seconds (cooldown begins after Arna returns to her Body) Dash Range: 550 AoE Damage Range: 275

(W) Carcass Toss

In her Body: Arna becomes a Spirit and throws her Body in a target direction, knocking aside all enemy units hit.

As a Spirit: Arna causes her body to dash in a target direction, knocking aside all units hit. If Arna’s Body dashes through her Spirit, she will enter her Body and all enemy units near the area where she entered her Body will be feared for 0.75 seconds. This ability cannot be used if Arna's Body is rooted or under the effects of hard crowd control.

NOTE: This ability does no damage.

Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 seconds Cast Range: 1000 Dash Range: 600 Dash Width: 95 Fear AoE: 425

(E) Spirit Glaive/Spirit Surge

(E) Spirit Glaive: Arna’s next basic attack within 6 seconds will mark the targeted unit with the Spirit Glaive for 3 seconds (basic attacks refresh the duration). Arna’s basic attacks against the marked unit will deal bonus magic damage equal to 4/5/6/7/8% (+1% per 100 Ability Power) of either the target’s current health (in Body) or missing health (in Spirit), depending on Arna’s current state, and will generate 5 Soul Essence (doubled against enemy Champions). While the Spirit Glaive is out, Arna gains 20/25/30/35/40% attack speed and this ability becomes Spirit Surge.

Cooldown: 20/17/14/11/8 seconds

Minimum Damage: 15/25/35/45/55 Maximum Damage Against Non-Champions: 25/60/95/130/165

(E) Spirit Surge: Arna causes her next basic attack against the marked unit to trigger the Spirit Glaive. When the Spirit Glaive triggers, it deals magic damage equal to 8/10/12/14/16% (+2% per 100 Ability Power) of either the target’s current health (in Body) or missing health (in Spirit) to the target, generates 10 Soul Essence (doubled against enemy Champions), and then bounces to a nearby enemy unit (prioritizing Champions). If there is no secondary target in range for the Spirit Glaive to bounce to, it will bounce back to Arna, reducing the remaining cooldown of this ability by 2 seconds.

Cooldown: 6 seconds Minimum Damage: 50/100/150/200/250 Maximum Damage Against Non-Champions: 450/525/600/675/750

(R) Poltergeist

Passive: Whenever Arna becomes a Spirit or enters a Body, her Body gains 10/20/30 (+5% Ability Power) bonus Armor and Magic Resist for the next 2.5 seconds. This buff cannot stack with itself.

Active: Arna can cast this ability in her Body or as a Spirit. Arna’s Spirit exits her Body and enters a targeted dead Champion’s corpse, gaining access to that Champion’s basic abilities (Q, W, and E) and can move and attack freely, but she does not gain access to that Champion’s passive or ultimate abilities. When Arna takes over another Champion’s Body, they are revived with 1 HP, their resource bar is replaced Soul Essence (a possessed Champion's abilities have no cost related to them), and Arna will gain 30/40/50 Soul Essence. Arna continues to lose Soul Essence while in this possessed Body. After the possessed Champion is killed or Arna reactivates this ability, she will return to her Spirit form. If Arna runs out of Soul Essence while in possession of a Champion, she will return to her own Body. While in this possessed Body, Arna's basic attacks still benefit from the Spirit Glaive.

Cooldown: 70/45/20 seconds (cooldown begins after the exiting the possessed Champion) Cast Range: 375

Additional Notes: Arna retains her own passive, meaning that you get a shield when you enter this new Body. Killing this possessed Champion does not count as a kill for the enemy team, but will grant the killer (if any) 50 gold.

Further Explanation of the Spirit mechanic:

  • When Arna activates Free Soul, her Spirit, while dashing, is considered to be a projectile for the purposes of Yasuo Wind Wall and Braum Unbreakable.

  • When Arna activates Carcass Toss, her Body, while dashing, is considered to be a projectile for the purposes of Yasuo Wind Wall and Braum Unbreakable.

  • If Arna clicks on Thresh's Dark Passage (Lantern) while in Spirit form, only her Spirit will be pulled to Thresh while her Body remains where it was abandoned.

  • Arna's Spirit can be targeted and damaged by enemy Turrets. If her Spirit's "locked-in" health is inferior or equal to her Body's current health, her passive, Spirit Veil, will not give a shield.

  • Kalista Fate's Call will pull force Arna back into her Body and then pull in her Body.

How Summoner Spells Interact with Arna's Spirit form:

  • summoner 21 : Shields Arna's Body from damage; not her Spirit.

  • {{summoner:2}} : Can be cast from her Spirit's location while in Spirit form.

  • summoner 13 : Can be cast from her Spirit's location while in Spirit form.

  • summoner 1 : If used in Spirit form, Arna's Body is cleansed of all crowd control effects and debuffs.

  • summoner 3 : Can be cast from her Spirit's location while in Spirit form.

  • summoner 4 : If used as a Spirit, causes only her Spirit to Flash.

  • summoner 6 : Grants both her Body and Spirit the movement speed buff.

  • summoner 7 : Can be cast from her Spirit's location while in Spirit form. If cast while in Spirit form, it heals Arna's Spirit and the targeted ally. That ally can be your own Body.

  • summoner 14 : Can be cast from her Spirit's location while in Spirit form.

  • summoner 11 : Can be cast from her Spirit's location while in Spirit form.

  • summoner 12 : Cannot be activated while in Spirit form.

How Crowd Control Effects Interact with Arna's Spirit form:

  • Blind: Does not affect Arna's Spirit. If Arna returns to her body while it's Blinded, Arna will be affected by the remaining duration of the Blind.

  • Charm: Does not affect Arna's Spirit. If Arna returns to her Body while it's Charmed, Arna will be affected by the remaining duration of the Charm.

  • Fear: Does not affect Arna's Spirit. If Arna returns to her Body while it's Feared, Arna will be affected by the remaining duration of the Fear.

  • Knock Back: Does not affect Arna's Spirit. Knocks up Arna's Body.

  • Knock Up: Does not affect Arna's Spirit. Knocks back Arna's Body.

  • Pull: Does not affect Arna's Spirit. Pulls Arna's Body.

  • Root: Does not affect Arna's Spirit. If Arna returns to her Body while it's Rooted, Arna will be affected by the remaining duration of the Root.

  • Silence: If Arna's Body is silenced, Arna's Spirit will be forced back into her Body and will endure the full duration of the Silence.

  • Slow: Does not affect Arna's Spirit. If Arna returns to her Body while it's Slowed, Arna will be affected by the remaining duration of the Slow.

  • Stasis: Arna cannot use Discharging Soul or Carcass Toos while her Body is in stasis, but she can still use basic attacks, Spirit Glaive, and Poltergeist.

  • Stun: Does not affect Arna's Spirit. If Arna returns to her Body while it's Stunned, Arna will be affected by the remaining duration of the Stun.

  • Suppression: Does not affect Arna's Spirit. If Arna returns to her Body while it's Suppressed, Arna will be affected by the remaining duration of the Suppress.

Recommended Build:

item 3020: Arna only has 2 damaging abilities, but those 2 abilities have high base damages (the rest of her damage comes from her basic attacks), so building Magic Penetration is very efficient. That's why I choose these boots.

item 3115: Nashor's Tooth is the best item in the game because I said so. Don't agree? Fight me. Anyway, I love Nashor's Tooh, and it's great on Arna. The attack speed helps her deal more damage her E faster, and thanks to Arna's Spirit form's safety, her kit is very auto-attack friendly; she can auto-attack with impunity! (Until they go after your Body, but let's focus on the positive, shall we?)

item 3157: Zhonya's is an item that synergizes very well with Arna's kit in a very cool way. Activating this item while you're a Spirit will cause your Body to go into stasis, but your Spirit can keep doing Spirit things a.k.a dealing damage. This temporarily eliminates Arna's greatest weakness: her Body's vulnerability. Zhonya's Hourglass also gives you some nice Armor to help your Body take more of a beating.

item 3151: Magic Penetration, ability power, health, and a sweet passive. Combine this with Rylai's Crystal Scepter and watch your Spirit Glaive's power level go over 9000! When Spirit Glaive triggers, it applies on spell hit effects, and because it's a single target spell, it will apply Liandry's passive as well as Rylai's full slow.

item 3116: Rylai's has incredibly synergy with Liandry's Torment (but you already knew that, didn't you?), and it can have it's full slow applied by your Spirit Glaive. It also gives you some durability.

item 3135: Void Staff because Magic Penetration and ability power. Arna has good base damage on her E and Q abilities, so Magic Penetration is key to maximizing her damage output. I said this already, but you don't listen. You just stare at my boobs (but I'm a guy O_o).

Lore:

Mayor Altimus Halls greets a man at the entrance to his small village. A man who he believes must be the member of The Free Order he sent for a day ago. The approaching man is wearing a cloak the colour of forest trees. Beneath that cloak, the man is covered in a blacksilver armor. On his back, he carries a large silver throwing glaive.

“You must be from the The Free Order,” says Altimus, offering the man a hasty handshake with his left hand.

The man extends his right hand and says "The other hand, if you don't mind."

“Oh, yes, The Free Order. Of course." Altimus switches hands. "Mayor Altimus Halls. You look like a man capable of handling the demon in our town.”

“Well, I myself have been called a demon a fair number of times in my life,” says the man with an indistinguishable pride.

“Excellent,” says Altimus, calming his jitters.

The man tells Altimus “My name is Royce. I serve The Free Order. We are an organization that serves King Jarvan. The Free Order deals with all things magical, supernatural, unnatural, demonic, mystical, cursed, dead, and spiritual, as well as anything that can be associated with such things, whether they be dangerous or—”

“Apologies, Sir Royce, but I’m already aware of The Free Order's services and the situation at hand is of the utmost urgency.” the mayor interjects, and Royce makes a gesture of understanding. “Now then, if you would follow me.” Altimus and Royce walk together through town with the Altimus leading the way. The town, despite having numerous houses, has empty streets.

“The townsfolk have refused to come out since we captured the demon girl yesterday—a young girl, Arna. No more than 10 years of age I believe. She’s currently being held captive by a handful of soldiers in the town square, however they refused to approach her, and with good reason. She is the reason I brought you here.” Altimus’ voice becomes stern and cold. “She is the evil that plagues our town—the type of evil in which your organization specializes.”

“What makes you say she’s evil, Mayor Halls?” asks Royce.

Altimus hesitates, afraid that speaking of such evils will somehow call them forward. “Her body… in town… would sometimes drop. Lifeless. Something strange would occur moments later. A bucket being inexplicably kicked over. A door suddenly flying open. Little things, but things that can scare the townsfolk. Then she would get back up. Nothing strange has happened while she’s been up.”

“I see,” says Royce. “Sounds like you have a free spirit on your hands—a person with a spirit who can enter and exit their body at will. I can take care of it.”

“I too came to conclude that she had some ghostly ability,” states Altimus. “And thank you, Sir Royce. Once she’s dead, my town can once again be safe, and I will be sure to reward you after the job is done. We managed to corner the girl just up ahead, at the center of that circle of soldiers. I’ve had soldiers stationed around her since yesterday. They took shifts watching over the body. Many of them refused to approach the accursed thing, and I can’t blame them.”

Upon seeing Altimus' soldiers, Royce says "I would have thought that you'd have more men watching this demon of yours."

"Unfortunately," Altimus says, "I had to send most of my men away. A messenger representing King Jarvan came into town yesterday with a message from the King himself, asking that I send 10,000 men to the capital. Now I have no more than 100 men to defend my town from unholy things like this."

"I see. Well, there's no need to worry. I can handle this unholy thing of yours, and you'll have your men back shortly. At least I hope so," Royce mumbles to himself.

Altimus escorts Royce through the crowd of soldiers encircling a young girl’s corpse. The soldiers hold their spears, firmly suppressing their fear, but maintaining their distance from their prisoner.

“That’s her,” claims Altimus with spiteful fear, seeing that Arna is not in her body. “Arna. The demon girl.” Altimus’ voice shakes at the name of that title. “And it appears that she’s out of her body, as you put it.”

“Indeed,” says Royce.

From under his cloak, Royce takes out a candle with his right hand. He kneels, standing the candle on ground at his feet. With his right hand again, he reaches into his cloak to pull out a tool that he uses to light the candle. It emits a blue flame, which captures the attention of the Altimus and the surrounding soldiers. Royce slowly walks around, holding the blue light out in front of him, searching for something. As Royce approaches the girl’s corpse, a blue spectral figure appears.

“There you are,” Royce whispers. The soldiers back away from the scene, horrified of what they don't know. The girl’s blue figure looks at Royce as he looks back at her. “Yes, I can see you. And no, I’m not here to hurt you. I’m here to bring you some place safe. A place where no one will hate you or try to kill you.”

“What?!” exclaims Altimus, stepping forward. “Some place safe? No place is safe while that thing lives! Kill her Sir Royce. I demand it!”

“No,” Royce says bluntly. “You sent us a message asking us to get rid of her. She is to come with me. That should satisfy your request. Now, order your men to stand down, or I’ll be forced to destroy this village and kill your people in the name of The Free Order and King Jarvan Lightshield The First. Every last one, Mayor Halls. Is that what you want for your people?”

Altimus is speechless.

“Go on girl. Get back in your body.” The girl’s blue figure returns into her body, and Arna’s body rises anew. She hides in the shadow of Royce.

“Sir Royce!” screams Altimus. “I can’t let you take this monstrosity out of this village. It cannot be allowed to live, and neither can an organization that sides with it. Men, kill them! Kill them both! We can’t let the demon girl or those who would protect her live!”

“A monstrosity?" Royce makes direct eye contact with Artimus, challenging him, and Artimus meets his gaze. "You should have stopped at evil.” Royce’s body inexplicably drops to its knees. Lifeless.

Thank you for reading my Champion Concept. If you think Arna would make a good addition to the League, upvote this thread and maybe Riot will get some ideas :D

Omg that lore...I love it...its written so well!!! And that ending gave mee goose bumps!! Its really good :D However...it doesn't really tie in to the lore the game has already established...im perfectly ok with like a whole new faction/land/group of people...but i do feel like it maybe needs some more "Runeterra" in it :) It is still expertly written, well done sir!!

Made a section that further elaborates on Arna's Spirit mechanic. This section will cover how summoner spells, crowd control effects, and certain abilities interact with Arna, as well as other unique things about her Spirit mechanic. If you have a question about how her Spirit mechanic would work in a certain situation, feel free to ask in the comments.

To those who think she needs nerfs, it would help me a lot if you posted what it is about her you think is overpowered. An ability? Her Spirit mechanic? Everything? Captain Jack Sparrow? What is OP about her?

One major problem.

The spirit form makes you Untargetable, Invulerable, and stealthed, but still allows you to cast spells.

If it also allows you to basic attack, a full AD build would be incredibly OP.

You may want to clarify that.

Mister Modesty7/30/2015, 3:48:02 AM1 votes

Ehhh- her ult is too much like Mordekaiser.. I think Poltergeist should target a living enemy champion. Deal a little damage, and control them LIKE a Mordekaiser ult. That's the same concept, but it would face the enemies with the dilemma of attacking a living ally- which is an aspect of undeath.. zombie children that eat the parents because mom and dad don't want to attack little tony. Poltergeists and demons that possess children, but the child always needs to be saved. It adds suspense- will I attack my Katarina that's being haunted by a poltergeist and slaughtering my team, and risk losing that cannon for my team's assault? Or you can possess the Annie support, and really scare them. summoner 1 should cure the champion of its poltergeist.

Can I just say Omg....

I mean I can't even...

You have thought of everything, there is so much synergy...

I mean my only question is when you R someone do you gain their stats...like AD, armor/MR. Can soraka heal the revived champion?

I like the Lore, You should make Royce next :D How does arna only have 1 arm? I didn't catch that. I saw that Royce only had one arm in the lore, not Arna though.

Edit: and i replied to your review on Acoros...sorry you read him...he is probably the least creative champ ive made, but i needed him to fit a role and to fit a slot in my overall lore. Nazul or any characters that pertain to him are probably my favorite. Inez is my favorite right now, but i just uploaded her and haven't edited her.

Changed her passive's scaling. It now scales with max health instead of AP. Ult's passive now also scales with AP, but has lower base stats. Also updated the recommended build.
