CHAMPION CONCEPT: Julius, the Lost Legionnarie

Roman Themed Champion. Origin: Born on Targon, raised in Demacia, Gender: Male Personality: "Has something to prove" Niche in society- Mercenary who literally brings his army with him.

I designed this champion a while ago on the Forums and have re-made the concept for modern League and the Boards. Lore will be posted soon after.

Balance: At no point am I claiming this is 100% balanced. That'd be in Riot's hands. I'm doing my best to get CLOSE to balance and keep the archetype of a Roman soldier.

Passive- Mark of War- Hitting a target with an ability (Q or E or the R clone Q or E) marks them for 6 seconds. Julius's next auto attack on the marked champion within the duration of the buff does 5% of the enemy’s maximum health as physical damage. Additionally detonating a mark gives Julius a stacking 10% movement speed buff for 3/4/5 seconds. Only one mark may be applied to an enemy at a time but there is no cooldown before re-applying the mark on the same enemy.

Q- Scutum/Gladius --Scutum ---Julius dashes forward a short distance (Graves dash range) with his shield in front of him stunning and knocking aside all enemies hit (.25/.30/.35/.45/.50 second stun) If Julius stuns an enemy his auto attack is reset. ---Gladius If Julius stuns an enemy his auto attack is reset and his next two attacks after using Scutum have max attack speed. Note: Semi-Short cooldown, the dash itself will deal very low damage. Note 2: Doing the Scutum damage based on Julius’s movements speed would both fit the champion and be awesome but I do not have a good ratio to implement right now. Any ideas would be great and it would make having detonated stacks of Mark of War play an additional role in doing damage.

W- Testudo/Strive In Testudo, Enemies who auto attack Julius receive a Mark of War, in Strive they detonate it. ---Testudo- Julius takes a defensive stance. He becomes unable to trigger Mark of War though he may still apply it. Enemies who auto attack Julius during Testudo receive a Mark of War. For this he gains 5% (+0.02AD) Damage Reduction and 5 Tenacity, with an additional 5% damage reduction and 5 Tenacity for every nearby enemy Champion with Mark of War. -Reactivate any time after 6 seconds to re-enter Strive stance.

--Strive- Julius bursts into an offensive stance, his ghostly defense aura exploding and marking all nearby enemies with Mark of War. In this stance Julius' auto attacks deal an additional 5/7/9/12/15% bonus damage. Upon activation of Strive, Julius gains a 15/20/25/30/35% burst of movement speed which decays to 0% over 3 seconds. -Reactivate any time after 6 seconds to re-enter Testudo Stance.

Flavor notes: When in Testudo, Julius hunkers down behind his shield. Some form of ghostly aura should be around him when he gets damaged by attacks. In Strive, he keeps his shield in front of him but instead of hiding behind it he has an aggressive stance, looking ready to bash someone with it. Upon coming out of Testudo and entering Strive the ghostly aura from Testudo should dramatically burst with ethereal energy.

E- Pilum -- (Skill shot) Julius throws up to two Pila. In addition to dealing damage upon hitting a target a pilum slows the target by 10/12/13/14/15% for 1.5 seconds and reduces the target's armor by 10/12/13/14/15% for that duration. Up to two charges of Pilum may be stored at any time. Hitting the same target with a second pilum within the 3 second window they are de-buffed will stun the target for .50 seconds and deal damage, but will not reduce the target's armor further if the target is stunned. The second pilum hit acts as a detonation of Mark of War if Julius is in Strive Stance. The slow % and stun duration will increase the farther the target is from Julius up to double. Max slow: 20/24/26/28/30% Max stun: 1 second

Note: Decently long CD.12/11/10/9/8 per charge ish, hold for two charges should be a decision the player has to make. There would also have to be a short CD applied between throws maybe .50 seconds.) Note: Recomended projectile speed 1300. Recommended range: 1200 It should be fast and feel aggressive.

R- Legio Invicta -- Upon activation Julius' next Q or E ability calls upon two ghostly legionaries to stand beside him and cast that ability in the direction Julius aims it in unison with Julius. Thus turning Julius's Q or E into 3 people casting it forward at the same time. The soldiers stay with him for 6 seconds. These ghostly soldiers will auto attack any nearby enemies, detonating Mark of War with their auto attacks. Each legionary has 33% of Julius's health, armor, magic resist, AD, and AP. (all other stats will be exactly the same as Julius) ---Upon casting, Julius will be in the center (with a soldier on either side of him), the enemy WILL know which of the three is him). NOTE: After mimicking Julius' Q or E the soldiers would follow him around much like Elise's spiderlings or malz's voidling. They can block skill-shots and will auto attack any enemies Julius attacks for the duration of their existence. The soldiers are untargetable but each can absorb 2 skillshots. The second skillshot absorbed causes the soldier to disappear. The soldiers phase back into Julius if they're still alive when their time is up, reducing the cooldown of Legio Invicta. Cooldown Note: Not very long, 45/40/35 seconds. For each soldier to survive the full 6 seconds the cooldown is reduced by 1/4. (if both survive it is reduced by half)

Flavor and burden of knowledge note- Mark of war should either be a silver symbol over the enemy's head or circling around them. When they are able to be stunned by a second Pilum it should pulse red. That way the Julius's opponent never has to wonder if the second pilum will stun.

The champion lore is incomplete (I believe you hit the word limit)

Anyways, onto the champion design itself.

Overall, the kit seems to be pretty viable. However, there is one major flaw with his ultimate. Assuming that people will play him top, champions such as Jax or Ryze will use your soldiers against you. This goes beyond Counter-play, it becomes detrimental to activate Legio Invicta. I propose just to make the soldiers function similarly to Azir's soldiers or Zed's Shadows. They should be untargetable, and just flat out offer 50% AD and AP (total for both) while mimicking your abilities. Have your the soldiers able to sacrifice themselves to shield Julius from skill shots, while getting kills recharges Legio Invicta.

On the balance side, Scutum would be seriously OP. The amount of tank stats it gives plus its ability to put Mark of War will be as game breaking as Irelia at her release. Instead of putting a Mark of War on AAs, why not move it to enemies who attack you? Give your opponents some chance at least.

Sweet Googly Moogly a Roman champ! :D

I'm happy his play-style is gonna be different than Pantheon's cuz some folks could get confused about them "being the same". However with very different play styles and some good art/concept work by Riot they'd be very different and flavorful!

Roman? :D Solid concept.

Ever considered having Pilume stun anyone who has Mark of War? Or would that be broken?

CHAMPION LORE * If anyone actually reads this whole thing I'll be freakin' impressed.*

Backstory: Julius was born on the slopes of Mount Targon to a family of ancient and noble blood. The very bloodline of Kor. His birth was highly anticipated by his village for his father was a great warrior of the Rakkor and his mother had set herself above and beyond the women of her generation. Their offspring was meant for war.

Surely, this child when he reached the age of 16 would have the most glorious Rite of Kor!... had he not been born too soon. Weighing a full pound less than the requirement the Rakkor place upon newborns Julius' parents knew their duty, and disobeyed.

Kaimar, Julius' father, did not begrudge the Rakkor's ancient tradition of their offspring fighting to the death at the end of childhood. His own ancient sires had put the practice in place and it had served them well from that day forward. Only the strong survived. However he and his wife could not give up their son without giving him a fighting chance. Sacrificing him on a mountain road was no fight as the Kor was... it was a waste.

Knowing their crimes against the Rakkor they fled. They fled the mountain tribes of the Rakkor and took refuge in the great city-state of Demacia. In this place they could raise their son to adulthood and perhaps... perhaps... return him to his people some day to fight in the Kor and prove that their decision was honorable.

Raised in Demacia, amongst Demacians, Julius was ever reminded by his parents that he was Rakkor. His father trained him from the age of 3 in the use of all manner of weapons. Physical training became a mainstay of each day as Julius grew. Counting his days until he could be reunited with his honorable people that his parents had told him so much about.

Kaimar had found work in the Demacian courts training young guards and soldiers. A perk of the job was that these men became the sparing partners of young Julius. After the age of 12, he never lost. He had but two battles end in a draw. The first, against a young man scarcely any older than Julius but destined to be a great soldier some day. With his greatsword he and Julius fought to a draw for Kaimar feared losing a star soldier or his own son before their time. The second draw was to the young Prince of Demacia himself who gained great respect for Julius for it was his only draw as well.

His fervor for battle was strengthened with each passing day. He felt, no he knew, he was destined to return to the Rakkor in glory.

The Solstice of Julius' 16th year approached. Kaimar and Julius began their journey to the wind chilled slopes of Targon. Little was spoken along the way. Julius knew what lay ahead and his father would only on brief occasion mention a hint that he knew Julius already knew... but it made him feel better. He would say things like "be sure to watch your opponent's hips, not his hands or his eyes. A mans hand and eyes can lie but it's impossible to go anywhere without your middle." or "don't just look for the strike, be ready for their follow-up, or even a simultaneous strike". Julius wanted to be annoyed by this now obvious advice but he knew this was all his father's way of saying "I love you".

As they entered the foothills of Targon Kaimar's spirits seemed to raise as though he was a much younger man. Around them they could see the fields worked by lesser tribesmen who's ilk had been subjugated by the Rakkor in ages past.. Their fields were not like the lush and highly productive fields near Demacia, these fields seemed to take more work for less profit. The herds of cattle and sheep roaming in the distance seemed a more fitting mainstay for a land like this. The close to the mountain Julius became more taken aback... was this really where the Rakkor chose to live?

They came to a village. Above them the mountain loomed like some silent imposing god. Yet Julius knew that around and upon this mountain his people not only scratched out a living, but became the best warriors known to Runeterra. A hearty place for hearty folk. He thought
