Concept Idea: Champion Double Ban System

This is a weird idea. It isn't a Champion concept, or an item concept...or even a game mode concept.

No it is a concept to change something in the game, that we use in Draft/Ranked/etc.

The Champion Ban System

As of right now, the system works and is fine. But I say fine very loosely as I feel it needs an update.

League has an ever growing pool of playable Champions, and while not "all" of them are meta/viable, they are still played to some degree (maybe against bots, I don't know).

The idea is very simple. We add in a secondary ban phase to the aforementioned game modes.

What do I mean?

Well when we play currently, we go into a soft pick phase, followed by the ban phase, followed by the actual pick phase.

If we added in a ban phase before we soft pick, it would allow for more control over who we don't want to see on the battle field.

Now I have no idea if this idea is feesable with League as it sits right now, or how much work it would take to impliment (if it is feesable).

It isn't a perfect idea. I don't have all the answers on how it would work, Or if there would be any changes to the ban phase we have now.

But the system we have now needs a change or update as it is slowly becoming obsolete. What happens if we keep what we have and we get to Champion 200? That would be 5% of the playable pool that we can ban. 5%.

Again yes, I am fully aware that not all Champions are meta/viable, but that changes at the drop of a hat.

My reasoning is this: the pros actually are working with a 2-ban phase. They still ban 10 champions between both teams overall, but they have no overlap, and the last 4 are banned after the first few champions are locked in. I would be 100% behind that system. Issue with it (and the reason we don't have it yet) is that it slows champ select down, and too many butthurt edgelords end up queue dodging when they can't play their champ or end up counterpicked for Riot to feel like making people wait longer in champ select or between games as a good idea.

That, and the fact that in the pro circuit, they're responsible enough that one person can ban all 5 champions without someone throwing a fit.
