Who was the dragon Rey? (Backstory/Lore concept for a champion)
Rey, the Liberated
In the earliest days of Runeterra, the land was ravaged by majestic, powerful creatures that transformed themselves with the sheer power of anger. In those days, rage and fury alike were the main sources of innate power present in all living beings. Amongst the most feared of these furious creatures were the Dragons, whose power seemed as limitless as the heavens they wandered. In this ancient time, only a select few would use mana, the only viable resource to those smaller creatures whose anatomies would not support the immense and powerful reactions caused by rage or fury. These smaller creatures developed greater and greater intelligence over the generations. And their intelligence would become their weapon the days following the fateful event that would change the fate of Runeterra forever.
A powerful, massive rock of unknown origins plummeted from the sky, ripping apart the air as it travelled. When it landed, the rock dug a rift into Runeterra as the massive shockwave it caused rippled across space and time. And when the energy had finally dissipated, the sky had become black and the air had become ash. There seemed to be no hope for life on Runeterra. The strongest creatures of Runeterra were not to be obliterated by a mere catastrophic event, however. They channeled their inner powers, transforming themselves into the undying embodiments of pure, destructive anger to survive the cold winter that had fallen over the land. The rock from the heavens may have changed their home forever, but the Dragons were not to be destroyed. Unbeknownst to them, however, the smaller creatures had managed to survive easily with the use of their collective energy. Armed with fantastically evolved intelligence and the newly arisen tides, those creatures planned and executed a horrific attack on Runeterra’s remaining giants while they could not fend adequately for themselves in the ruined land. And so when the first hint of light finally stroke its way through the floating ocean of soot that covered Runeterra, the era of Dragons and majestic creatures had long come to an end. The only known remaining Dragon, Rey, was eternally sealed within the Orb of Destiny inside volcanic ruins. In honor of those great creatures, these Dragon Slayers, whose magic would bring about a seemingly never-ending era of prosperity to their kind, after many generations the mysterious and mountainous rock from the heavens would be renamed: Summoner’s Rift.
