Welcome, summoners, to the Monthly Champion Creation Contest of June, 2015! For this month's competition, it is I, Keagn, who shall be your host! As is often the case, this will be a four week competition where you all shall create new champions (based off of this specific MCCC) to see which of you can create the best champion within the provided guidelines. Now, since guidelines are fairly deadly to creativity, we shall try to keep these at a minimum. As far as judging goes, the rubric is fairly straight forward, so treat it like your yellow-brick road, and you should be fine!
#Schedule:
- June 1st-15th: Accepting Entries. Must have name to be considered an entry.
- June 15th-20th: Contest Entries are closed. Time to work on your concepts!
- June 21st: Any concepts missing lore, name, or a complete abilities section are disqualified.
- June 22nd-29th: Judging!
- June 30th+: Announcing winners.
#Theme
"Another glorious conquest, Lord Ahimoth." mused an armored man adorning a blood-red hood. The mysterious figure spoke through a steel blade of about average size, and it radiated with a simple, yet powerful magic long abandoned from common use. Etched onto the handle was the figure's true name, illegible to all except those who know it. The man starred at the scene with his glowing blue eyes, focused primarily on the scene of destruction down bellow. The Institute of War and some of its most famous champions laid in waste just a few miles out from where he stood, the handiwork of the Incarnate. A minor feat, but a major step towards the intended end game.
"Remember where your loyalty lies. I do not appreciate your jests, Shade." Ahimoth grumbled at the void. The demonic-red man had already left the ruins and returned to his throne room, a chamber crafted of slate black stone bricks carved out from a vast cavern. A pool of blood rested in the center of the room, disturbed only by a pulsating energy which originated from the pool's center. Close behind him, a shadow with the same glowing blue eyes the hooded man possessed.
"I meant no ill will, my Lord," the Shade mused, "but one must wonder what our next move is. I can confirm that the Shaman is already gathering forces against you. I advise you to do the same."
"Then see to it, I have other matters to attend to."
A radiating purple blade cut through the black portal through which the Shade contacted his lord, causing it to dissipate. Perhaps the hooded figure was grinning within the shadows, however one could not be certain. However, beneath his guise, the workings of his mission had already been sent into motion. Within a few days' time, countless marauders would come to Lord Ahimoth, pledging their service in exchange for some form of power. Desperate, perhaps...or perhaps...
Some just love to watch the world burn. And those are exactly the kind of people we need.
#Challenges
Hate to break it to you guys, but chaos and evil come with the territory. Any kindness you come in with, we'll purge from you. Quickly.
Initiation:
The call has gone out to every corner of Runeterra, springing forth from every shadow, every corrupt or tortured soul. A simple deal, for a simple need. Lord Ahimoth has no need for petty recruits, but for experts who know how things are done. However, before you join the ranks of the Dark Legion, you must first prove your worth:
IF YOUR CHAMPION CLASSIFIES AS A FIGHTER/TANK:
The Shade has provided you with information concerning various points of strategic worth. Your goal is to take out the defenses of these locations, and seize control of the site. Any resistance you come across in your mission is for you to deal with. You may assault these locations in teams of up to three (3).
IF YOUR CHAMPION CLASSIFIES AS A MARKSMAN/ASSASSIN:
Lord Ahimoth requires your skills for a very...specific task. Targets spread out across Valoran pose a significant threat to our plans in days to come. Take out your provided target, and return to the Shade with spoils to prove your kill.
IF YOUR CHAMPION CLASSIFIES AS A MAGE:
Lord Ahimoth has need of various magical artifacts located across Valoran. Retrieve one of these artifacts, and return it to the Shade for your reward.
IF YOUR CHAMPION CLASSIFIES AS A SUPPORT:
While you may not bring about destruction, there's not a doubt in my mind you'll make yourselves useful. You may either join an existing siege party , or you may retrieve one of our captured supporters, and aid them in their escape.
(Information concerning your targets will be provided upon official entry!)
#Rubric
Lore Rubric: Does your lore accurately display the functions of your champion, does it hit home and stir emotion, and how well is it written(or typed, I guess)? Since this is my only second MCCC, The rubric may be similar to my last. However, with this MCCC, The kit, ability synergy, and lore will critically affect your score just as much as balance and even more than creativity. Anyway, back on topic, here's some of the criteria regarding your entrant's lore:
Clarity-syntax does your lore have proper spelling and grammar?
Fluidity-does your lore flow well in story going from point to point and makes sense?
Theme- does your lore have a strong thematic approach?
Motivation- does your lore explain how they got their powers and why they joined this particular competition? Why does your champion exist?
Tone and mood- how does it read and does it inspire emotional or positive response? Does the reader like reading it?
Originality- is your lore original or unique? Does it keep the reader interested?
Lore is scored x/20 points.
Theme) Do the abilities and lore fit the overall theme?
Theme is scored x/10.
Lore Ability Synergy) Do your abilities reflect your character?
LAS is scored x/10.
Abilities/kit(and balance...don't forget balance)
Is your champion balanced? Are they fun to play with, against, or as? Is your champion's kit unique, or different from existing champions'? How are the character's mechanics? Are they clunky or confusing? Does the enemy have a way to fight back against your character? If not, then your entrant may need a mass rework.
Abilities/Kit are scored x/30.
Creativity) Is the champion creative and original, or is it at least an interesting take on something that has already been done/existed?
Creativity is scored x/15.
Kit Cohesion Synergy) Does everything in your abilities section work well together?
Cohesion Synergy is scored x/10.
[Note: The secret lore challenge will be worth x/5 points]
