How about a Throwback mode?

Final Spark Lux··7 votes·456 views

A gamemode that is just a normal SR game, but it takes place back in season 1 with only the original champs from season 1 release and prior, has all the old items back, all the champions tuned to that time period, etc. Oh yeah, and takes place on winter SR because everyone loved it. Upvote for memories? :D

would be very hard to program perfectly

riot has the resources to pull this off

yea but the resources are well spent elsewhere. they will have to add tons of new items into to game, reprogram the champs so basicly add the original champs back into the game. its not like they have backup champs every season

How do you figure? This is a multi billion dollar company we're talking about here. If I can imagine it, chances are they can make it happen (assuming they want to). I guarantee you they have all the old code backed up somewhere. They wouldn't have any problem with it.

Actually, this was addressed at one point. Both the idea and your claim.

While they do save old versions for emergencies, their back-ups don't go that far back. And recreating that game state would require a lot of work, for a mode that would probably see [relatively] little play beyond the launch spike. The cost-benefit analysis just doesn't support it.

Even so, regardless if they have 100% of their old versions backed up (which I still believe they do somewhere because it's code and there would be literally no reason for them to scrap it over just putting it all in a backup folder for references), it's a multi BILLION dollar company. There is very little they wouldn't be able to accomplish if they had their mind set on something, for example this game mode. It might take them some doing, sure, but it's 100% doable.

Game modes don't make money, skins do. If the decision was based on what is going to make more money for them, they wouldn't even bother making new game modes, they'd focus all their attention on new champions and new skins. You can't accurately predict how much attention it would get, there are too many variables.

That being said, I respectfully disagree with your opinion. There are many veteran players who really enjoyed the game back then, who would love being able to play in that time period again. Likewise, there are also newer players that have no idea how the game was back in the day, who would enjoy seeing what it was like back when everything was different. It's a new experience.

I agree money isn't necessarily the issue here. It's satisfaction and resource economy. Rebuilding the game state - to include the map - requires a lot of resources. While it would likely receive the normal launch spike characteristic of featured game modes, interest isn't likely to persist. So they would be throwing all those resources into a one-off event (looking at you, murder bridge). If they can reallocate even half those resources into something with bigger long-term gains (Say, coding team creating new runes), it's a better use of resources.

You can't accurately predict how much attention it would get, there are too many variables.

Anything that involves people becomes unpredictable to some degree. That's why we have to go with our best guess. And best guess is that those resources are more efficiently used elsewhere.

If they did retain all previous versions of the game in an easily [relative] restored archive, then this entire argument would go out the window. But that's not the case.

Original Twisted Fate would be GG xD

I think most people would find this amusing for a few games and then no one would play it. Overall, it would be a wasted effort by Riot and doesn't offer much in terms of variety.
