Have any champion concepts ever been accepted?

Many skins have been inspired by fan art. As for champions, riot definitely takes inspiration from players when designing abilities, but they never take a player's champion as a whole. If they take inspiration from a concept, the concept is all they take. For example, gnar was inspired by a comment on reddit several years ago asking for a yordle jungler who could transform into a giant monster. Riot denies this, but Velkoz was released, coincidently, 1 year after someone made a comment asking about a 1 eyed floating void monster that shot lasers.

Artistically/Thematically? Yes, but never completely like they (the concepts) are. If Riot finds a concept that seems interesting they would have to redesign it and concept it again, so it would fit in with the game's art style for sure. Thematically, I know that Braum's concept was inspired by Angus, according to Rioters' comments around his release.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Never directly. Champion concepts have likely been looked at and incorporated in some fashion. It's easy to say "My bug monster is a direct cause of Kha'zix!" when, in reality, most champions/champion concepts can be boiled down to a single core archetype or idea. Kha'zix? Ultimate predator. Vi? Rough and tumble boxer. Braum? Stalwart manly man. etc.

More so, champion concepts and ideas go through hundreds of iterations. As an example, I once told my friend (in Riot) how similar Rek'sai was to a concept I had made about a year ago. His response was that Rek'sai's concept had been in the works since HE had gotten there around 2+ years ago. At worst, the concept had zero influence. At best, the concept directly inspired a part of Rek'sai's kit and/or characterization.

My best advice I can give is don't be too upset if you make a huge concept and Riot releases something that makes it null and void. You recognized a niche and came up with an idea to fill it. That's good, it shows that you're thinking in a similar mindset and that you know what you're doing to some degree. As for actually seeing your concept ever made? Probably never going to happen. Riot's made of people who want to see their ideas implemented, I doubt we'd ever see them run flat and start asking the community for ideas.

I do know for a fact that Dunkmaster Darius came about as a very long-time movement from fans to have his Ultimate Ability enshrined literally.

Riot refined it, but they gave the fans what they wanted.

But that's a skin, not a champ. So idk about that.

Well the community can ask for a type of champion. The community basically pointed missiles at riot to create an armored bear and behold volibear coincidentally appeared as a champion. Now we must ready the weapons again for helmet bro.

Braum is based off of Angus and Volibear was based on community push for armored bear

Leona, Braum and Volibear were all direct responses to community requests (I think Gnar was one too, not sure).

But generally, not really, unless the idea is getting support from thousands (literally) of players otherwise the normal champ concepts you see everyday don't really ever get considered pretty much at all.

Braum was inspired from Angus I think.

The kits are completly different, but the idea of a manly support came from there

Zac, Braum, Gnar, i wouldn't say officially accepted because things get complicated then. EDIT: and Thresh i think but i am not sure 2nd EDIT: velkoz also but it wasnt with drawings, it was a post where ppl asked for a tentacle champion

Officially, they can't use fan concepts. The amount of legal BS is staggering.

Unofficially, there have a handful of concepts used; though made original.

they take general themes. lee sin, volibear, braum were not actual concepts but just an idea. their kits had no community input. braum has none of angus's abilities(they were a joke after all).

theorying a champion can be fun but don't expect anything in this forum to ever appear in game.

If you guys don't mind, would you look through my champion concepts within my post? its part of my senior thesis and i would like as much feedback as possible before picking one of the ideas.

They usually get what the like from a champion concept than take pieces of it and pieces of other concepts and combine them together to make a unique kit. They also read the lore to see if it would give them inspiration to create a champion based off it.

+proof Gnar and Zac are inspired by some old champion concepts. Zac = Bluu (i believe that was the name) and Gnar was based off a caveman yordle

You'll never believe it, but . I believe Teemo was conceived before LoL was made, though, and the player only made the gameplay design. Really foggy on the details

I know Gnar was a concept, he was supposed to be a snowboarder.

Like many people explained they never take a direct concept of a fan,only small aspects of fan-made champs.

One example would be Braum. Braum was originally going to be a female mechanic with a big mechanical shield. It was then that the guys at riot read about Angus the puncher,a concept about a ridiculous manly support,because we don't have that many manly supports. Then they decided to take the concept of the shieldguard into a different direction and turned it into braum.

I believe the concept of Orianna was based off, but not completely off of, a player's design. It was a fire based character but this character still had an orb.

I forget where I saw that, but I believe I did see a rioteer post that.

EDIT AS I FINISH COMMENT: A concept isn't really to be implemented in most cases as the kits are either overloaded or too complicated in a lot of cases. Some really cool ideas can come from concepts, but not an entire kit of them. I prefer to put a concept for other players to see rather than rioteers implement them (as much as I hope it would happen I know it wouldn't.)

i'm surprised no one's mentioned Varus yet. I know Penny Arcade played a pretty large part (at least thematically) in his creation.

I heard Maokai and Elise, they were put in a statistic sheet thing but idk where it is.

I think it had how many teemos die per second or something.
