Can we please add a DotA-eque "It is now OK to leave" if someone AFK's in normals?
I get how it can influence ranked but can we please add this to normals?

It's pretty infuriating to have an AFK in normals. What makes it even worse is that you can't surrender before 20 minutes and for some odd reason many people absolutely refuse to just sit in fountain and let the enemy push to nexus. I mean honestly, why not? Nothing is at stake here outside of your time invested, do you really want to play a 4v5 for 20 minutes or more??
Yes, they do, and they'll report you for not agreeing with them. ^_^
While your argument makes sense, it's much more fun to actually do things when you're in a 4v5 than just do nothing and then get annoyed by the "AFK WARNING" message. Believe it or not playing a game (even if you're losing) is still fun if you decide it to be- (if people are being annoying in chat just mute them, seriously).
Some people just won't go down without a fight.
Fighting even if you know you'll lose.. It's not always that bad idea. Simply because you can try something that you'd never ever do in normal 5v5 game.
So if you get into pathetic 4v5 situation where only thing you can do is slow execution, then.. Do something different. Try out different combos.. Just anything. You might find something cool.
Ya, playing 4v5's is pretty fun. imo the ONLY reason you aren't having fun is because you want a WIN. If you really want a win, go play bots. If not, basically everything else is just practice that can be used in ranked(which is "important") so having to deal w/ a 4v5 lets you deal with extra hardship. You can also possibly win a 4v5 if your opponents are bad enough, so why complain? Just because you don't have fun doesn't mean others aren't. Just afk in fountain if you are so upset.

False assumption.
I (and I think most people here) find competitive games fun. Sure it is frustrating to lose and people want to win, but I find winning one-sided stompfests to be far more boring than losing a closely matched game. So no, its not because people just want to WIN. I learn so much in close games that I lose, than in stompfests where I win or lose and 4v5's are almost always stompfests and a waste of everyones time.
I've had some competitive 4v5 games which I've had fun in, regardless of if I won or lost, but that is rare and only happens if you are lucky enough that the matchmaker stacked one team so that they are much stronger than the other team that they can still win even one player down. The overwhelming majority of 4v5 games are not competitive at all and for me that is NOT fun.
4v5's are not good practice. Unless the opponent is markedly worse a 4v5 will result in you getting steamrolled even if you play well. Getting steamrolled is neither fun nor a good learning experience. Losing a match that starts out equally matched is a very different thing to being at a huge disadvantage off the bat and relying on your opponent being a lot worse than you to have a shot.
This is wrong. Given similar skill level that the normal and ranked matchmaking is supposed to find, 4v5s are not fun for the winning nor losing side. Have you ever had fun winning as a team with more people? Probably not. Have you ever had fun on the losing side because of a DC? probably not. Overall it's a game that many people just don't enjoy.
Quitters never win and winners never quit.
I've won 4v5s and lost to 5v4s enough to know that while I really wish we could just end it and go home, while I'm still in the game, I'm going to try just as hard as I would anytime else, because that effort is the only thing that wins games, not numbers.

It's not really about winning or losing for me in a normal game, I care more about whether I'm having fun. And win or lose, 4v5 is very rarely fun for me. I would much rather cut my losses and let them push as 5 mid to end the game in 4 minutes, saving 16+ minutes of my time. But I'm not allowed to do that because there's always 1 person who wants to play from this crazy deficit, for some reason completely unknown to me, and if I don't actually try then I'll get reported.
I think the dynamic people are trying to avoid is people taking the potential higher queue times "for the team" so they don't have to play the entire game. Dota (especially lower skilled players) leave CONSTANTLY because of this, and it ruins games. You CAN win a 4v5, and you CAN surrender at 20 minutes, unlike Dota. What I would like to see, as has been said by some before, is the ability to not lose lp in ranked, or at least as much, if you have an afk by the end of the game. Dota does this as well (as long as they left before a certain point).
I used to play a lot of Dota 2 and it wasnt a common occurence.

I'm referring to lower tier players. I created a smurf to play with my friend and it happened more than a few times.
There are Riot posts as to why they won't adapt Dota's method of fixing afks.
The reasoning is that a 4 man group could theoretically force that one player (who's not in their group) to quit/leave the game by harassing them or threatening to report them.

And the easiest solution to combat that is to remove the /all chat which is worthless in the first place. I hear only hate/curses/flaming/death wishes in there. They just won't do it because they don't want to deal with another hard thing to make. Just focus on creating more skins
How does removing /all prevent that? You don't even need to use /all to ruin someone's fun so long as you're on the same team, and in the proposed situation of a 4-person group with an odd man out, it's quite likely that the 4 will spend the entire game verbally abusing the poor schmuck who got saddled with the peanut gallery.
Hello hater. Riot implemented an even better tool which was even harder work and makes your suggestion absolutely redundant. Everone can just choose to disable All-chat entirely completely on their own, while others can still use it in the respective game, how cool is that! And even better, you only need to change it one time in your system and you are NEVER bothered again with both ALL-chat messages from your or the enemy team! Wow! Check today!

In case you didn't noticed i play since season 2 and speaking of that tool to disable all-chat.. not sure if you're serious or you're trying to troll me. I don't have any problem with all-chat because its always turned off, but that guy was speaking about """ a 4 man group could theoretically force that one player (who's not in their group) to quit/leave the game by harassing them or threatening to report them.""" I can't count how many times my friends got pissed off and were raging because their enemy team threatened them and i told them to disable the god damn all-chat. No matter who disables all-chat or not , one player out of 20 can still have it opened while being harassed by the enemy team so he can.. quit. Me hater? Nah, not even. Its pretty irritating that a simple problem can be solved so easy and they could at least change the champion select system at least. I get it , everything can be abused. Let it that way then. Not gonna play ranked anyway anymore. I can deal with afk's or trolls in normal games.
It's like you're not even acknowledging that the person you're replying to was quite evidently speaking of hostility between teammates, rather than between teams. You know, the little thing that this horrible excuse for a community is famous for?
Examples: I pick Fiddlesticks mid, and someone proceeds to last-pick Jax and pull the "mid or feed" nonsense. I pick Garen top, and someone then picks Ashe top and treats me like I'm playing a support and/or can just tank for them every time they overextend. In fact, it's not uncommon to find one's own teammates giving them more grief than the enemy team, over something as subjective as picking or not picking a particular champion and/or role.
Removing /All chat would, on its own, only remove one of the three primary outlets of toxicity in the actual game, with the other two being chat from one's own team and troll playing on either team. It would do absolutely nothing to even inhibit the other two primary outlets of toxicity, and while I'll admit that there's not a particularly compelling reason for it to exist, there's no particularly compelling reason to go through the trouble of entirely removing it, either.
Plus, the mute function's existence renders your point, well, moot, considering the fact that one can ignore and then report any and all individuals who would choose to engage in cyber-bullying.
Ah the "This can be abused" sheep bleat any time anyone makes a sensible suggestion.
I've played dota2 since release, do you know how many times I've seen a 4 man group force one player to leave or quit in my almost 2000 games of dota2?
ZERO.
How many pointless 4v5s have I been able to leave because someone drops almost immediately? probably close to 50. And most of these are in lower ELO where players all have Potato computers and Potato internet. Another 50 or so probably due to rage quitters after first blood.
But lets just worry about the mythical 4 man group that forces one player to leave instead.
I doubt that someone would go to that effort for a normals game.
I only want free leaves from early DC's. I don't want to be forced to play 4 on five from very beginning. If there was an increased IP bonus for sticking out and winning 4 on fives I would love it. You couldn't queue with friends and get it of course.
On the topic of Dota, the pause button is a pretty relevant feature. Games can be paused and unpaused by anyone in the game. When the game is paused, the AFK timer does not tick down, so it gives chances for possible reconnections. Also, when a person is declared AFK, all their gold is equally distributed between the rest of the active team members, and the disconnected hero can also be controlled by other team members. This makes the playing field much more balanced, albeit not completed even with an AFK, and 4v5s, 3v5s and even 2v5s are very possible in Dota.
What I would like is some sort of implementation of the gold giving system in Dota.
Yah its no fun for either team when there is a leaver/DCer, I would like this option as well, so wasts no ones time. Least for normals not ranked.
One of the reasons I like DotA Too.
Or take a leaf from Strife and give some kind of compensation to the team who's lost people.
