As much as I want to have a Sol buff because if he still has his scalings this rework will be absolutely overpowered for soloq
The main "skill that is required" from you to play Sol is spacing and map knowledge.
Aurelion is probably one of the fastest champions in the game, he can fly over terrain with a >60 cooldown.
As much as you might find him boring, I find him really cool and fun to play just because he is my playstyle, so I can't have an opinion about that.
And it should be possible for him to get hardcountered by melee, every champion in the game has quite a bit of weakpoints (well almost everyone
)
The current problems Sol has, is his ult bugs which sometimes doesn't even count as a knockback when champions like
dashes right into the ultimate, takes full dmg and within the "inner limit" range and does not get knockbacked which makes him unreliable when it comes to just dealing with midlane champions.
You could argue that his non pointblank Q should be buffed to a pointblank Q, but his starsurge provide so much more than just a AoE stun.
It provides movementspeed, and it grows which is useful for engaging for either at baron or base objectives, since his E range can be maxed too 7k, you can almost reach out to everywhere.
Another one of his problems is that there is a bug where the Q, Starsurge, procs immidiately when it reaches it's minimun range regardless how you click and move around the map. It is a very strange bug because it is inconsistent and sometimes doesn't even appear ingame at all.
Wether this has something to do with holding in Q or something, idk.
So yeah, that's my opinion.
But if there is one idea that I do like from your idea is the fact that starsurge can deal more dmg based on how far it has traveled, and I personally find that a very intriguiging way to reward people who do the EQ combo. The main thing about the EQ combo is that it is far too easy to combo, and it provides so little reward even if you manage to pull it off. You are better off just flying to one location and then fire your Q as close to the target as possible.
When all that being said, I still think it is absolute bs that his passive gets canceled by "Canceling of channeled abilities" like Viktor ultimate or Kassadin Q. It is way to strange because it feels the equivalent of fiddlesticks jumping in with R and then his R gets canceled after his channel.
