Aurelion Sol minor rework

Ok, our favorite star dragon has an amazing character, but his gameplay is pretty boring, and he is hard countered by any melee.

These changes have two goals; to make Sol feel more active to play, and to let him actually FIGHT melee champions.

Passive The outer limit is now persistantly shown to Aurelion Sol.

Q Doubletapping will now cause an instant explosion. Deals less damage, but deals bonus damage based on how far it has traveled.

W Reworked (30 mana + 20 mana per second. 0.5 second cooldown.) While toggled on, stars will gradually move towards your outer limit, dealing bonus damage and spinning faster. Holding "left alt" will cause the stars to move towards you instead (minimum of 175 units away from you). Tapping "right alt" will cause the stars to maintain their current position. Deactivating this spell does not reset the stars to any specific location. Distance from A. Sol does not impact the number of rotations per second.

E unchanged

R unchanged

As much as I want to have a Sol buff because if he still has his scalings this rework will be absolutely overpowered for soloq The main "skill that is required" from you to play Sol is spacing and map knowledge. Aurelion is probably one of the fastest champions in the game, he can fly over terrain with a >60 cooldown.

As much as you might find him boring, I find him really cool and fun to play just because he is my playstyle, so I can't have an opinion about that. And it should be possible for him to get hardcountered by melee, every champion in the game has quite a bit of weakpoints (well almost everyone Viktor Azir ) The current problems Sol has, is his ult bugs which sometimes doesn't even count as a knockback when champions like Fiora dashes right into the ultimate, takes full dmg and within the "inner limit" range and does not get knockbacked which makes him unreliable when it comes to just dealing with midlane champions. You could argue that his non pointblank Q should be buffed to a pointblank Q, but his starsurge provide so much more than just a AoE stun. It provides movementspeed, and it grows which is useful for engaging for either at baron or base objectives, since his E range can be maxed too 7k, you can almost reach out to everywhere. Another one of his problems is that there is a bug where the Q, Starsurge, procs immidiately when it reaches it's minimun range regardless how you click and move around the map. It is a very strange bug because it is inconsistent and sometimes doesn't even appear ingame at all. Wether this has something to do with holding in Q or something, idk.

So yeah, that's my opinion. But if there is one idea that I do like from your idea is the fact that starsurge can deal more dmg based on how far it has traveled, and I personally find that a very intriguiging way to reward people who do the EQ combo. The main thing about the EQ combo is that it is far too easy to combo, and it provides so little reward even if you manage to pull it off. You are better off just flying to one location and then fire your Q as close to the target as possible.

When all that being said, I still think it is absolute bs that his passive gets canceled by "Canceling of channeled abilities" like Viktor ultimate or Kassadin Q. It is way to strange because it feels the equivalent of fiddlesticks jumping in with R and then his R gets canceled after his channel.

He definitely needs instant recast on his Q. No champion should be reduced to 1 single option when in a situation as simple as "someone is near you". As for the W changes, I personally feel like that would over-complicate him. Positioning with W is hard enough to learn at the moment, without the possibility to change the position with that much freedom.

All in all; I personally have a blast playing Sol. There are so many satisfying things to do with him and when accompanied by one of the best VO's in the game, it's gold. Read the reply of a rioter in another Sol post who hinted at some minor changes to the dragon before the end of the year. Hopefully we can at least get that recast on Q.

Cant tell if this makes him better or worse, I personally won every single enemy laner just cause I played him so much at the point where I main him right now, I always thought he was really fun to play. What will those changes do to him exactly ?
