I'm just confused on why this is an ultimate skin. I mean you get the icons and banners, but what is so drastically different between spirit guard and his base? to me it seems like it should be just a legendary.

idk why riot makes you pay twenty five dollars for what should have been a visual update

thats my point. It's not, or at least doesn't seem, very different from that of his base skin

Ultimate skins get several different bases. Legendary skins only have one base.

no I realize that. What I'm asking is not about the general term. I'm asking about spirit guard udyr in particular. DJ Sona? now THAT'S an Ultimate. Spirit guard udyr barely looks different. his base model looks different, his recall is different, but his abilities barely look different at all. That's why im curious as to why it isn't legendary

"Barely" is still different. His abilities need to resemble his base model's for clarity, which is true for every skin. Personally I think it's a huge improvement. Spirit guard udyr has several different bases, so it is an ultimate skin. It is that simple.
