Like we have dynasty warrior J4 or Xin (not sure which it is but same thing), so why can't we just make fun things like Moltres and Zapados Anivia? Taylor Swift Lux? Bowser or Sonic Rammus? Goku Ezreal? Slender thing Fiddlesticks?
So many ideas, and a lot are on that custom skin site already (but that causes crashes and other players can't even see your skin). I say forget about copy right issues and make cool skins.

Bowser Rammus already exists. It's a beta-tester-only skin called King Rammus.
Super Galaxy Rumble = Gurren Lagann reference from start to finish (it's an anime, not sure if you've heard of it) Chosen One Master Yi = Anakin Skywalker reference (Star Wars) Pulsefire Ezreal = Some TRON references Project Yasuo = Metal Gear reference (if I recall correctly, never played the series)
There are probably some others I don't know about, but the point is Riot has done this type of thing in the past. I don't think ignoring copyright is the right answer though.
