AP ASSASSIN Items - Concepts and Ideas

AP Assassins don't have alot of items. The only items they have (strictly for them) are item 3100 item 3146 item 3041 (?) So I thought about what items they would want to buy, and I came up with a few ideas:

#Notes:

##1. There are some champions (Mostly Diana) I use in this post who aren't assassins, but for the sake of this post I used them since they have a similair playstyle and could use the items too. ##2. Don't look too much at the stats, these are concepts, they will have to be changed to be balanced. ##3. The names are just place holders, they are bad and unoriginal. . #What are the goals of these items?

  1. Create item diversity
  2. Having certain items purchased in certain situations.

#What do I want to avoid?

  1. Too much niche. like item 3512
  2. Passive being too weak and useless.item 3056

I've put the best for last, the boring ideas are first. Enjoy! ^__^

First I asked myself, what do AP Assassins need? They need 3 stats in particular: Movement Speed, Ability Power and Magic Penetration. There's a good amount of Movement Speed items, and a lot of items that give Ability Power. But only 2-3 items that give Magic Penetration. item 3020 item 3136 and it's upgrade item 3151 .

So that's why I propose a new Item that has magic penetration, so it can build in others and there will be more variety.

#Demacia's Gauntlet item 1052 + item 1052 + 130 Gold = 1000 Gold. Stats:

  • 40 Ability Power UNIQUE Passive: + 5 Magic Penetration

##Pros:

  • More variety for Magic Penetration.

##Cons:

  • It could be dangerous make Magic Penetration earlier accessible, however I dont think it will be a problem since it's only 5 Magic Penetration, that's not much and item 3136 doesn't cost much more.

Most assassins go in Melee Range to kill a target. They also like to burst a squishy down really fast. That's why we'd like a new item to have extra burst. But the problem here is that Mages will abuse it, and we want to avoid that. Mages don't go in melee range, so making the passive melee will solve the problem. (NOT! Melee only, but the passive happens in melee range!)

#Mystic Blade

Demacia's Gauntlet + item 1058 + 950 Gold = 3200 Gold
[I had the idea of making it build out of Bami's cinder, since it's damage around you too, and give 10 Magic Penetration and give 300 hp. What do you think?] stats:

  • 100 Ability Power UNIQUE Passive: + 15 Magic Penetration

UNIQUE PASSIVE - Blade Blast: After a full rotation of your spells within 5 seconds, and 2 seconds from each ability, (Q+W+E+R must be within 5 seconds, each ability has to be within 2 seconds of another ability.) A blast that deals (50 + 25% AP) magic damage will occur 200 units around you.

##Pros:

  • It will give them more burst. (They could use it after the assassin rework.)
  • More variety in late game items
  • If Mages buy this they wont be able to make full use of the passive, so they'd want to get Ludens over this item every time.

##Cons:

  • Other classes may abuse this item, AP Tanks like Gragas or Maokai. (The chance is small since it wouldn't deal much damage but still)
  • It may not be original enough, and look like a copy of item 3285, but I'll let you decide on that one.
  • Would they buy it over item 3285 ?

AP Assassins struggle a bit late game, when teams are grouped it's harder to all in without getting CC'ed or killed. This item should help with that.

#Coat of the Wicked Witch item 1058 + item 3105 + 600Gold = 2950 Gold. stats:

  • 80 AP
  • 45 MR
  • 45 Armor (Maybe buff to 90 or 100 or 50 armor and magic resistance, and make total cost 3150? I lowered the cost to make the item gold efficient, but I'm not sure about the stats.)

UNIQUE Passive - Blood Makes Me Go Fast: Your ability cast time and channel time are reduced by 5%/10%/15%/20%/25% for each champion that you are surrounded by. ( Range 600) (Time is calculated when the ability is started.)

##Pros:

  • They trade Damage for Defensive stats, but get the passive to make up for it.
  • Very Original passive
  • Won't be abused by other classes

##Cons:

  • Giving the item defensive stats would kinda defeat the purpose of comboing faster, but giving them extra offensive stats for the defensive stats would be too strong.

  • Can everyone make use of it? Not only Katarina Akali and Diana but also Ahri, Leblanc, ...

Assassins like to snowball. And they should be rewarded for it. Currently we have item 3041, but I don think we could be more creative with a snowball item, and I don't think everyone can make the same use of flat AP.

#Knives of the Undead item 1082 + item 1082 + item 3751 + 400 Gold = 2200 Gold.

  • 45 AP [Maybe a bit higher??] +350 HP

UNIQUE Passive - Glory or die: Grants 2 Glory for a champion kill and 1 Glory for an assist, up to 24 Glory. You start with 4 Glory. UNIQUE Passive - Your Soul is My Sword: Each stack of glory gives you a Knife Pet.

Knife pet: Knife pets Follow your champion around each side of it's body. (Up, down, left and right.) Each Time your champion passes an enemy champion, (125 Range) It deals (15+10%AP) Magic damage PER KNIFE. This effect can only occur once every 2 [Maybe more or less?] seconds. If a side has attacked the champion before, other sides will deal, (25% for the first, and 20% for all following sides), less damage. Knife pets go in this order: First Up, then bottom, then left, then right, repeat. Do you all understand this? It could be complicated.

##Pros

  • Very Unique
  • Can lead to amazing outplays
  • Fun game mechanic

##Cons

  • Probably a nightmare to balance
  • Will it be picked over item 3041? How will this effect item 3041 ?

Now the last item I propose to you is a complete guess. It could be amazing and work, but it could also flop. I don't know how this would effect gameplay, but I think it's cool, and interesting. So I'll just mention it.

#Shield of the Ascended

item 3057 +Demacia's Gauntlet + item 1052 + 965 Gold = 2550

Stats:

  • 60 AP
  • 10 % Cdr
  • 350 Mana UNIQUE Passive: + 15 Magic Penetration.

UNIQUE Passive - Spellblade: After using an ability, your next basic attack (on-hit) deals (100% base AD + 60% AP) bonus magic damage and gives Evasion. 4 second cooldown. [Maybe higher??] Evasion: Creates a zone, (200 units diameter) In which you cannot be CC'ed for 1 second. [Maybe more?]. CC containing spells will still damage you, but they won't CC you.

##Pros:

  • More Sheen items diversity for AP users
  • More interesting combos
  • More outplay potential

##Cons:

  • How will this effect item 3100 ?
  • Nightmare to balance
  • Evasion might be too odd, unique and niche.
  • Do we need this?
  • Won't it push item 3100 out of assassins item builds? Which is the opposite of what we want.

That were my suggestions! I hope you liked them! :D Please, give me some feedback and give your opinion about these ideas, I would love to discuss them with you! Also, don't forget to vote on the poll.

Good Luck on the Fields Of Justice!

You forgot this item item 3135 .

Btw, the "Coat of the Wicked Witch"+item 3157 +item 3047 maybe is realy hard to kill for the most of AD.

Does Gauntlet of Demacia give 15 magic pen or 5, cause you've said both in your section about it.

Also, I really like Mystic Blade. Coat of the Wicked Witch sounds broken. It gives you more time to do stuff, reduces how long it takes for you to do that stuff, and makes you better at doing that stuff. Primarily I think reducing cast times on an item is not a great idea when champions are balanced around their cast times.

Knives of the Undead could use another name, like Edge of the Isles, and could be less complicated. I like the idea though!

item 3147 Equivalent would be good, i don't know why only AD assassins get the anti-wards advantage.

Generally, i think items like item 3191 and item 3136 need to build into more items.

For example: item 3136 + item 3113 ---> After casting a spell, your next spell ignores [X] Magic Resist if the target is below 30% Health. This passive would make it so only assassins get the most of it.

Or:

item 3057 + item 3145 ----> Next autoattack after casting a spell deals [X] damage and slows the enemy, or reduces its vision, etc.

About "Mystic Blade" the damage is too low, people would prefer item 3100 / item 3145 and it would be only usable with champion with low CD ult.

"Coat of the Wicked Witch" i think the passive would be better of by healing your HP or Mana, or giving you a shield or resistances (maybe movement speed) when you kill an enemy champion, which would help you escape if you get in the middle of the enemy team.

"Knives of the Undead" This is a tank item as it benefits from staying a long time around enemies, assassins go in and out. If you want this to be an assassin item, you could make it so each knife disappears after dealing damage and reappears with mid-long CD, additionally, it could leave a bleeding effect. Also, building 2 item 1082 's is a bit odd and a very risky bet. Additionally item 3751 shouldn't be in an assassin's item because you are encouraging them to go tanky, which was an issue in some patches. About item 3041: if you keep the knives range very low, this shouldn't be a problem since some AP assassins aren't melee (Leblanc for example), and also, item 3041 is even used by non assassins.

I still don't see why people keep trying to make this distinction in itemization. AP items are made so that they cater to both Assassins and Mages, to the point that some assassins use items that are generally seen as "mage" items way better than most mages. item 3157 is a good example of this.

I like the concepts of the stats and effects, but don't agree with the item names/appearance. Shields and swords aren't really my first take for an AP item.IMO

Like the ˝Coat of the Wicked Witch˝ .Just, why is the max value 25% instead of 20%? 125% is impossible to achieve because of how the game functions.

I'll just try and cover my thoughts on your items if that's alright c:

Demacia's Gauntlet: I agree that there should be some more variety on ways to build Magic Penetration, though I don't think a new 1000 gold item should be used to make that. A single full item would be more than enough. Anyways, the item alone seems fine. You don't really get a lot for your money, but it's okay. No actual problems with it.

Mystic Blade: This item puts a weird spin on assassins, forcing them to use all their abilities, even if they don't always want to. The idea about making a burst that triggers off spells is fine, but... Perhaps don't force people to use their ultimate to trigger it? Also, the timing in between the spells make some champions that might actually want this item incapable of using it.Ekko Especially Ekko. The item is also a bit too much like Luden's Echo and it'll simply come down to which one's mathematically better considering how similar they are. Balancing is horrible with that close effects.

Coat of the Wicked Witch: This item will not go on AP assassins, but AP tanks. Gives really good stats for that role. The passive is... For one, super badly worded and secondly too broken no matter the numbers. You don't want a Nunu or a Fiddlesticks to be able to do their things faster, that's a way of balancing them. Would also seriously make Malzahar worse.

Knives of the Undead: You're right, this passive is very confusing, but the way I read it, it can deal up to 360+240% AP, which is not okay... Especially on a cooldown of 2 seconds. The problem isn't so much the damage, but the problem lies in the amount of Knife Pets you can actually get. It seems super powerful, not matter how you balance the damage. Perhaps a better explanation would make it more clear how exactly this works. I honestly like the idea of the item if I understand it correctly, but it shouldn't go so high. We already have one AP item that scales off kills, we don't need another.

Shield of the Ascended: This is a sheen passive, give it a 3 sec cooldown. The evasion however is super weird... I don't think it's possible to balance this proper, considering how powerful CC is supposed to be. Also, this is a proactive CC dodge, not a reactive, which I don't think will be a fun thing to fight. Think how Bullshit it must feel for a Malzahar to hit his ultimate 0.1 seconds after the Evasion came up in a teamfight? There's no questioning it, he's going to get reported in low ELOs.

I know I basically shat on all the items you made, but you've worked towards making some things that are too unique without considering how it would play out against existing champions.
