Ever had someone rage at me for pinking a support like Ivern. The only time i've had people get mad at me was when i have played

support and we lost lane because of my shitty pick.
Lux and Ori can function as supports, but their issue is probably mana management and lacking sustain. Most supports have something that make them tank, good cc, shields, heals, and are not mana intensive.
They can't really protect the same way that a standard support can, but I doubt anyone in low gold or lower would be able to really punish them for picking such supports.
