What happens if you rent a skin from the skin shards you have?

If you click ''activate - rental for 7 days'' on a skin do you loose the shard? or after 7 days it goes back to your inventory?

I just lost legendary legacy skin (the magnificent twisted fate) because of this. Riot doesn't warn you that you loose the shard after you rent it. Which is stupid imo. I sent a ticket to try and solve my disappointment but Riot said they wouldn't do anything. A warning pop up should warn you that you will loose the shard after you rent. Very unhappy about this.

Yea I WISH I looked this up BEFORE renting my skin. I just freaking wasted Snowday Ziggs. DX and I only needed about 40 more orange essence to get it permanently. fml

Why would you rent something then still keep it to own? I used context clues but yeah I can see the unclarity in that. Just make sure to not disenchant/rent a skin you want to have in the future xP

This is unnaceptable and a very pathetic attempt from Riot to force us in buying the skins later, they are not warning you on purpose so if you waste the shard then youl want to buy the skin with real money , i lost Mecha Zero Sion but i aint gona buy it now anyway
