Aelon, the Cartographer (My Version)
I know I've seen another version out there, but it seemed not quite right to me. Notably, this is my first attempt to create a champion, so I am probably WAY off on balance, especially given some of his unique capabilities.
I pulled all of his abilities from the Rek'sai journal, save for his ult which I took full creative license with. I tried to balance his base stats, mana costs, and cooldowns off of similar abilities and champions (largely Sona, Soraka, and Nidalee). Here's what I came up with, and some reasoning.
Aelon, the Cartographer Primary role: Support. Secondary role: Mage (sorta?)
Health: 541 (+89) Health Regen: 6.2 (+.6) Magic Resist: 30 (+0) Armor: 22.3 (+3.5) Mana: 302 (+44) Mana Regen: 7 (+.5) Attack Speed: .625 (+2.2%) Attack Damage: 50.04 (+3) Attack Range: 550 Movement Speed: 335
A lot of these base stats were derived from the three champions mentioned earlier, and trying to find a good balance there.
Passive: Slaver for Love
Aelon gains +1 gold for each minion that dies within 550 range of him, and +10 gold on kills and assists.
Aelon's lore is all about how he's a) passively gaining money from his uncle and b) gaining money by getting things for the Arena. His passive reflects both of those aspects. I considered just giving him flat gp/10, but that just felt a little wrong.
Q: Arena Supplier (Range 800, cost 50/60/70/80/90 mana, CD 15/14/13/12/11)
Aelon throws a net provided by his Noxian trappers in a line. The first enemy it hits takes 50/100/150/200/250 (+30% AP) magic damage and is rooted for 1.75/2/2.25/2.5/2.75 seconds, then slowed by 15/20/25/30/35% for 1 second.
Honestly, I felt like he needed some form of CC as a support. I wanted it to be a skillshot, and a snare made the most sense since he was trying to capture things alive. I wanted to add some oomph, since it does less damage and snares for less time than Morgana, so I added in the slow afterwards for kill securing but to allow counterplay in the way of dashes and flash, as well as hiding behind minions.
W: Hired Help (Range 700, cost 65/75/85/95/110 mana, CD 16/15/14/13/12)
Passive: Aelon has lookouts in his elujavr'i', and receives true sight for .25/.5/.75/1/1.25 seconds if there is an enemy not within his vision within 1200 range. This cannot activate more than once every 8 seconds, and will not reactivate on the same champion until they reenter vision range.
Active: Aelon summons his saih'kharash'i to allow for him and his allies to escape or close with the enemy. He summons a minion within 700 range, which taunts all enemies within 150 range of itself for .25/.5/.75/1/1.25 seconds and grants Aelon and all allies within 500 range of him +5/7/9/11/13% movement speed for .5 seconds.
This was the first ability I came up with. I thought it fit really interestingly with this man who feels himself superior to those around him, and has hired people to do this exact thing. The passive can be counterplayed by bush maneuvering, though he can counter that by warding as well. The primary purpose is it grants some protection from stealth champions, although that can be negated, again, by some smart counterplay. The active is some more CC, though relatively short until high ranks. It gives him some much needed teamfight disengage, or even a decent hard engage a la Annie Tibbers.
E: Desert Survivor (Range 600, Cost 55/60/65/70/75 mana, CD 12/11/10/9/8)
Aelon heals himeslf or an ally for 100/125/150/175/200 (+60% AP) and grants them +5% movement speed.
Heals are good, mkay? I feel like the numbers on this need to be tweaked, but I got this part from the desert outpost. I originally wanted to kinda do an aoe oasis style thing, but I felt like that was too much like Janna's ult and tweaking it was much more difficult. I figured he could offer some highly nutritious water to his laning partner!
R: Master Cartographer (Cost 200/175/150, CD 300/240/180)
Passive: Stealth wards (including Sightstone and Trinket Wards) placed by Aelon have +50/100/150 vision range. Vision wards (including those cast by trinkets) have the increased vision range and their Magical Vision range is increased by 25/50/75. Sweeping Lens and Oracle's Lens have their sweeping range increased by 10/20/30. Scrying Orb and Farsight Orb reveal champions for an additional .5/1/1.5 seconds if hit by the active effect.
Active: Aelon channels for 5/4/3 seconds and reveals all jungle camps on the map. While this does not grant vision of them, it does grant timers on all jungle camps, including Baron and Dragon, and reveals on the minimap all of the currently occupied camps, removing the ones that are not occupied. This effect lasts for 5/10/15 seconds, and any alteration during that time will be updated as necessary. All camps will have a visual signifier during the duration.
Okay, so most everyone I have seen likes to do ward play on him, and it makes sense as a Cartographer, as vision wins games. This guy benefits HUGELY from it, granting greater and more potent vision, and being resourceful with the trinkets in the game. The sight upgrades are powerful to be sure, but I don't think too much. Of course, I might be wrong. The true power of his ult, though, is the ability to gain the timer on all camps, hence the MASSIVE cooldown on it. I had to make sure it wasn't truly powerful, allowing you to learn all of the enemy's jungle camps at 6 and every time they spawned thereafter. He obviously synergizes well with counterjunglers such as Shaco and Rek'sai (hilariously). I wanted to make sure it was known that the camps were being watched, to allow for some counterplay, although having the timers means you can also get his route basically as soon as you hit 6. This can also be helpful in crucial times such as the enemy taking baron or dragon uncontested, so you can know when it went down and time what they are likely to do from that. I added in the channel time to allow for interrupts for additional counterplay possibilities.
Let me know what you guys think. I expect it to get torn apart; while I like to think I have some idea of balance, I'm not sure on his base stats or really any of the numbers. Feedback much appreciated
