Cho'Gath Ability Re-Work

Greetings summoners,

This discussion will be related to a re-balancing of Cho'Gath Chogath

Cho'Gath in my opinion is one of the weakest champions right now, even after his recent re-work.

He boasts a pitiful 47.10% win rate in the top lane, making him the 47th out of 54 top lane champions rated by champion.gg

This is my opinion is Cho'Gath's lack of ability to engage the enemy, or even trade with the enemy favorably. His main engage tool, Q-Rupture, has a .625 second delay making it unbelievably easy to dodge, which pretty much neuters his ability to trade effectively, and makes him rather useless while it's on cooldown, it also has a 9 second cooldown at all levels.

To make up for these disadvantages Cho'Gath is one of the few champions in the game that can nuke enemies for True Damage, the only other one coming to mind being Olaf.

I suggest the following changes in order to make Cho'Gath a more viable champion.

  • Let's start from what I believe is the biggest culprit of it all... Cho'Gath's R-Feast. The bonus attack range and health per stack should remain the same, as it gives Cho'Gath a sense of uniqueness. However I believe it shouldn't stack infinitely, it should cap at 10, with the maximum amount of stacks received from non-champions capped at 5. This will make the ultimate weaker of course, but will allow us to transfer power to other parts of his kit.

  • Next up is Cho'Gath's passive Carnivore and E-Vorpal Spikes. I believe that they should be a single ability E, and that instead of being a toggled ability it should be an auto attack reset empowered ability, similar to Jax's W-Empower. The scaling should be the same, including the range, but it should have a 8-10 second cooldown that resets on killing an unit, similar to Fizz's W-Seastone Trident. It should only heal on units killed with it, like Carnivore, and should also count multiple units killed with it.

  • Cho'Gath's W-Feral Scream in my opinion is a great ability and does not need to be altered.

  • Cho'Gath's Q-Rupture, I believe the skill shot should be changed. It should be an area around him with two effects, that scales with Cho'Gath's size. Here's the twist, it's like Darius's Q-Decimate, two zones, the outer limits effectively pull enemies into you and applies a 60% slow that decays rapidly over 1 second, think of Diana's E-Moonfall, and the inner area knocks enemies up, and applies 80% slow over 1 second that decays rapidly over time instead of 60% over 1.5 seconds. It also deals less damage on the outer limits.

  • Lastly, for his passive, I created two versions, pick and choose, make your own, you decide.

Based on his pick line, "You'd wish the world you know to end!" NEW Passive: Call of the Void - Whenever you damage an enemy with a spell or ability, they are inflicted with Awe for X seconds, decreasing their movement speed away from you, but increasing it towards you by X amount. [[ If this one is applied you would have to remove the slows from Cho'Gath's Rupture]]

NEW Passive: Void Terror - While in combat with Cho'Gath enemy Champions around Cho'Gath receive stacks of Terror, that accumulate like Energized abilities (attacking, moving), if Cho'Gath inflicts damage on enemies with 100 stacks, they are Feared for X seconds.

And that's all I could come up with, thanks for reading, and sorry for the lengthy read.

I have 400 games on chogath this season and I had to stop using him if I wanted to keep climbing up the ranks not because he's weak he was always op to me especially with the infinity stack but when people saw item 3285 they would immediately give up or flame me xD

Cho'Gath is really strong, and the current kit is really good. I don't know what the heck is wrong with Champion.gg, but Cho'Gath is in meta now. -First of all, the R nerfs that you suggested. R is the crucial part of his kit. Cho'Gath is a hyper tank that can have more than 10k health and the changes would reduce him to 3k max, and that is going to reduce his winrate. -E: This part is so tricky, I understood it like this: Empoweres next attack and resets it cooldown if the target is killed, and the heal is going to only apply to units killed with this ability, am i right? If that's the case, then Cho'Gath would't have sustain in battle and it would make healing harder. With the recent changes to E (empowers next 3 basic attacks) this is similar. -W: I agree it is great. -Passive: Now, the passives that you recommended are going to make him a fighter instead of mage/tank. And you even said that he SPEEDS UP enemies that come to you. So you have to be fed for this to work, as if you were 0/3 this isn't going to work, because it will just speed up enemies and make you easy prey. The second passive is better as it would make him an even better Crowd Controller. But I would stick to the current passive. -Q: I agree that it makes Cho'Gath useless when on cooldown, but a change like that is going to hit him hard. He has engage potential with his Q and W. They are going to buff Q's damage and reduce the mana cost and that's a REALLY big buff. These changes that you made are going to make him a pure tank, and I personally think that he is going to fall out of the meta.

To wrap it up, these changes would nerf him and make him a totally different champion. He would have no mobility, no sustain in battle, and easy to counter with ranged champions. It would also make him a fighter or a tank rather than a mage. I personally think mage cho is quite good. (PS: I'm a Cho'Gath main)
