An old Aatrox main watching the "Re imaging Pantheon" Video
Lets get it here first, I don't like the new Aatrox rework. One. Bit.
Now let me say as well, I don't think the rework is a bad champion, he is fun to play and obviously many people like him, but the jump from old Aatrox to new Aatrox was not good. Lets use some quotes from the video shall we?
0:20 "We realized there were a lot of things that current players loved about pantheon and ideally we want to keep the reasons why people love the champion but make it better"
- Healing "check"
- Revive "not check" (as of 9.14)
- Auto attack based "not check" - you have one auto you really care about which is on a CD, and your Q makes you stand still while you cast it unlike say Riven, so unless your target it actually melee range with you and staying there you're not going to be able to Q auto Q auto, in fact there aren't even animations you can cancel, so right here you have changed the champion HUGELY
2:50 "how much attachment there is to the champion as a spell based character, and we tried to make it so he was less deterministic in going to win all the time like he was before."
Yeah we can respect that, we all know fighting pantheon early game is a bad idea because he will out poke and out trade you. We thank you for realizing people want to keep a spell based champion a spell based champion. I wish you could have done that with Aatrox, and wish you could have tried to make his auto attack kit not a (to quote rito) "stat check champion" because he totally isn't that right now either sarcasm as noted by the constant changes and nerfs you've made to his kit since release.
3:25 "a bunch of changes we tried drifted too far from old pantheon, it's important to know what you can and cannot change to improve the game play or lose the game play that people desired from the champion."
Yeah, not even going to bother with this, because you really did just crumple old Aatrox and threw out 90% of the kit rather than trying to work with it and keep the people who enjoyed him before still interested in him.
Old Aatrox was something similar to Tryndamere, you had some engage or retreat, you had to auto constantly to win, you had parts of your kit that worked well together but didn't feel like one ability was the whole reason you won or lost a fight (current Aatrox Q) and you had some safety just like all mele auto based champions do (just like trynd has his ult, yi has his W dmg reduction and Q blink, Fiora has plenty of mobility and her W, ect.) with your revive but you had to work for it and if you used it badly you were punished because you couldn't move.
- I much prefered the updated old Aatrox with the 5 bars to his passive that you had to keep in combat or you didn't have a revive, compared to old old Aatrox where you filled your bar with hp from ability costs and your revive was on a set CD
New Aatrox? He is basically a big tanky riven with shittier dashes, his whole kit is based around the dmg from his Q and passive (just like riven), giving him invisible stat buffs (% ability healing, % increase of AD) (which btw the ult is a big stat buff just like riven as well), and not at all the same feel that he was before.
Thanks for reading my rant, I hope that maybe someday we can get a new champion like old Aatrox but I doubt it.
