How to get Aatrox - Guides/Builds - League of Legends

Before anyone cries this is another post from someone who never plays Aatrox, look me up. Aatrox got me to diamond, and I've mained him top since Season 4.

seriously this is the biggest fucking nerf to an already under powered champion I've ever seen. Riot I've stuck up for you I've thought that "yea no matter what they do they know what they're doing," this proves I was super wrong. You guys put this shit on the PBE and tested it and listened to none of the feed back and didn't think to play it yourself. The changes are awful and he is literally unplayable. Want to know why? Let me list the reasons.

  1. Your Q damage is shit now, hardly any base damage and you need to build ad to make it worth because your base AD isn't that amazing.

  2. Your Q hasn't been address for the real problems it has, like a long ass cool down, tiny hit box for it's knock up and comparatively small range. I personally thing being able to be knocked up with it is good counter play unlike many so that's whatever.

  3. Your Heal is now absolute garbage. Think about this, you took an AD auto attack reliant champion and took away his AD ratio on how he stays alive and gave it %missing hp so he would build tanky. It's like you were trying to make him into the new Warwick But with shitty base compared to him and WW actually has an ass ton of healing in his kit naturally, from 3/5 of his total abilities. So yea the flat healing is better but that's all you get. 90 hp every 3 auto attacks with no scaling but missing hp so you HAVE to build tank. Nice.

  4. Your W damage is just a straight up nerf. No arguments there you can look at the numbers.

  5. Your E is now Physical damage, meaning any tank you go against can actually just build armor and you're useless and can't touch them. So your harass is now trash even with the better damage, also they made the the slow lower until you level it up and actually nerfed the time it slows for.

The biggest upset about all this is the passive rework. I want the find the idiot who thought of this and put it into effect because when you really think about it this is seriously worse than garbage. You loose/ gain this extremely slowly because you have to use your abilities a ton to get it stacked or Auto a lot (with the damage on not the healing ( and also you don't have the auto speed you used to so you can't stack as fast as you're thinking)) If you're not in combat for like 5 seconds you start to lose it, and it takes about that same time for you to lose 4 stacks. It only takes you 4 seconds to use up all of your attack speed buff (which by the way also got nerfed from 30-55% to 20-50%)

The cherry on the top of it all is that they don't even have an animation for it, you gain the mist from GA when you have that bonus for 4 seconds and that just shows you how little time they actually put into thinking about this.

If you have any comments I'd love to reply and Riot if you ever think about changing Aatrox again please for the love of god ask us first because you obviously need help.

i played him in jungle for 2 year OTP. lets analyze

first dragon timer, all solo after 3 camps (level 3)

pre-rework: 3:50, 0-1 health potions used, can clear the rest of the jungle effeciently straight after dragon

rework: 4:30, all 3 potions used, has to base and cannot clear jungle after. https://gyazo.com/c88b22ac76bdf3274a5e214d5ab78599

baron soloing:

pre-rework items: Spirit Visage, Jungle AS item, Rage blade. Could do solo NP. If u did good you could get these items by 20 minutes and take it in ~20 seconds

rework: very hard and requires way more gold, not impossible but really hard.

Counterjungling:

pre-rework high early damage W, good heal and mixed damage from magic damaging E made it good to invade enemy jungle on early. Passive attack speed gave you good changes in duels and boosted up your sustain in a way that made you win fights even though the enemy did essentially more damage - if you just lived through their spell cycle. Passive revive made it safer. While reviving you could charge for your Q or instantly flash after should you make a mistake. During revive any allies that joined you had time to finish up the threaths

re-work

W damage lowered significantly, E doing ad which is not as effective against junglers since they usually run low to 0 magic resist in their runes. Cant risk going into enemy jungle since you dont have guaranteed GA and your health / potions are lower than before because of the attack speed nerf that helped you keep your hp up. While getting bloodrush you get close to the strenght as before but NOTICE, even you get the +20 ad that doesnt compensate for the lowered W heal and W damage, and it is very easy for the enemy to just pull off for 4 seconds, wait your bloodlust to end and then come and kill you easily.

and no, you cant stack your passive ready before entering enemy jungle since they fall off insanely fast when out of combat.

Clearing this is simple, before you had permanently 30% atk speed since the first camp (game start you stack Q in base for blood, you reach camp with 98% bloodwell)

now you dont have that atk speed

E deals ad damage(less on monsters): jungle mosters DO have armor, but they had -15 magic resist, which makes it significant nerf in clear speed on that part too.

Building

wether you played in top or jungle you never liked to see rammus or malphite in enemy team while playing Aatrox. Well it WASNT so big of a problem, you could get hybrid items that are good for Aatrox such as Rage Blade (crucial item since it makes W every 2 attacks instead of 3, and makes all those solo barons possible) or gunblade

this way you would have some poke from E that their stacked armor was useless against.

NOW since the AP ratio was removed, building those items waste a significant amount of gold on AP that is only used in your ultimate once in 1.5 minutes, and not in constant E poke/clear. This makes it really impossible to play Aatrox against any tanky toplaner since they can build full armor and expect 0 damage from Aatrox. Before you could even go AP aatrox vs malphite and that worked pretty good.

Also Rage Blade which was, atleast for jungle Aatrox, an essential core item does now have 80 AP which you basically dont get to use effeciently at all.

Now i've listed out most of my arguments against claims that new Aatrox is better in any way, specially in jungle, so I would like to hear your, who think he is better, opinions as to why you think he would be better in jungle or anywhere for that matter.

from LP history you will find out that the 3 first accounts were Diamond, the first one was diamond most of the time but the chart doesnt show that far, I had made a demote from it and then briefly went back before essentially quitting the game for months to come.

in total these make 1028 Aatrox ranked games during seasons 5-7 played between platinum and low diamond

Aatrox was DESIGNED AROUND HIS TWO AUTO ATTACK INCREASING PASSIVES.

PLAYERS WARNED THEM. AATROX HAS GARBAGE BASE ATTACKSPEED AND AN ENTIRE RESOURCE SYSTEM TO INCREASE IT.

I posted this in another thread but I wanted to hear your thoughts on it.

I've been saying this for a long time and I dont know why Riot never listens. Just change the way his ult works. Literally take away his Ult damage and replace it with something else...

Like add a defensive steroid like lets say Decrease Damage output by enemy champions afflicted by Massacre.

OR shift his revive passive into his ult where he revives with X% amount of health and Blood Well where X is the amount of champs afflicted by massacre. Nearby enemies are feared for 1 second after revived.

OR combine Blood Price and Thirst and take away Price's cost during the duration.

OR for more for a simple change, for the love of god at least make him untargetable while in the air. Its okay for Fizz to be untargetable WHILE having it being low CD but not Aatrox's Q?

It's so damn easy to balance him and they make it sound like he's a impossible to work on when they have PBE and literally hundreds of players willing to test things out for you. Funny thing is that I think it will be harder to balance him now with his updated kit.

I'm amazed someone looked at the passive, saw that even if you're actively pushing the wave it STILL would degrade, and then expected "healthy windows of counter play" to be viable. You know to have healthy windows you have to be able to open the window in the first place.

The Rework was to put him into a spot similar to other divers, because his current theme of Lifesteal fighter isn't working out as well as they originally made it long ago. Now that he is in this spot, he's more likely to receive buffs to make him better. The Rework was never meant to be a buff alone, it was meant to put him in a position so that he could be buffed.

It's sad when I can read the patch notes for a total of 2 minutes about Aatrox and see they gutted that already useless champion. How does a balance team that gets paid mess this up so badly. There needs to be an elo requirement to work at Riot, these bronze balancers are the main problem with the game.

His healing also doesn't fucking scale off of fervor anymore, these are awful changes and I'll be back when he is kind of viable again I'm very disappointed that the changes actually hurt him and didn't address any of his problems.

-Low base stats

-Q takes forever with a small radius and a long cooldown

-W is just garbage now, jungling with him is a joke

-E does physical damage which makes it easier to itemize against him

-R ult is still just garbage

-Passive got nerfed so fucking hard I'm just triggered by these changes

This is why I long ago gave on Riot as a company. They do what they want want,not what the community wants them to,while giving middle fingers in the process. I'm surprised that league made it this far,and not surprised that league is decaying in popularity. They started fucking up since season 4 nonstop.

the funny thing is, they probably could have buffed him to a suitable level just by removing his health costs on everything but his W

dr mundo and vladimir are the only other champions with health-cost abilties and both have the ability to negate or even surpass the costs of their abilties

for instance, Dr Mundo's Q refunds fully if the target dies, allowing him to spam it in lane against minions (which is fun)

Aatrox...loses 5 - 10% of his hp to use his E against a distant target...which is not fun

I really believed Riot when they said they would never over rush champion changes again after Shen. Admittedly though I really like the new Shen but as someone who played Aatrox quite a bit this is a chop shop job if I've ever seen one. Aatrox did not need to be another tanky bruiser. We have plenty of champs that already fill that niche. Feels bad man... =(

I'm sure you're already posted this somewhere else but how would you fix aatrox? Based on what I've seen from him so far he could use the following:

  1. Blood rush needs to last longer and should refresh on jungle camps. Jungling feels absolutely awful on aatrox right now.

  2. Blood well needs to fall off slower. It's so easy for lane opponents to just back off for a few seconds when you get close to procing blood rush.

  3. Q cooldown needs to be reduced. Aatrox has one of the weakest engages of all divers and also one of the least reliable forms of cc of all divers while also having that cc and engage on one of the highest cooldowns of all divers.

  4. W feels very weak and unsatisfying. It either should be buffed or it should be changed to proc every attack or every other attack (in the case of the latter the heal/damage will need to be nerfed to compensate.)

I feel for all the Aatrox mains out there. That being said, it's foolish to believe that these changes are permanent.

Yep, there'll be followup needed. We think the pattern the kit changes move Aatrox towards is better, that's not to say the numbers are right however.

_Aatrox looks like he's almost certainly too weak by a noticeable margin. We're looking at possible buffs, with a decent chance we hotfix at least some of them out. We would expect Aatrox to struggle somewhat as players adapt to new builds, the changed passive etc, it looks like his kit's just too weak as well though. Le Blanc, Varus and MF may also have been hit too hard, so we're both looking at where they've landed to understand it better and considering what we'd do if that were true (want to answer questions like impact on Support MF versus ADC MF, how much LB's performance is affected by some players not yet changing skill rank up orders etc). _
