Concept for a Malzahar rework.

  • Passive - Void swarm Malzahar's next autoattack spawns a Voidling and deals bonus magic damage. The amount of Voidlings spawned is doubled if the target is a champion. This passive has a cooldown.

Voidlings follow Malzahar around and attack Malzahar's targets, but they will die after a moderately long lifespan.

  • Q - Call of the Void Malzahar opens a circular portal at the target area. It will open completely after a long delay, and when fully opened it roots all enemies that walk on it, with an individual, per-unit cooldown. The portal only disappears when Malzahar reactivates the ability or gets too far from it, and only one portal can exist.

Voidlings that touch or are sent inside the portal will be stored in the Void, up to a cap. If another portal is fully opened, they will quickly burst out.

  • W - Messengers from below After targeting a position, Malzahar sends all the Voidlings in an area around him to said position, dealing damage to all the units they hit. They stop at the first enemy hit and champions hit by multiple voidlings take reduced damage. The size of the area around Malzahar can be increased by channelling the ability.

This ability can store Voidlings inside the portal of Q: Call of the Void.

  • E - Malefic Visions Malzahar applies a damage over time effect to the target enemy unit. If the unit dies, it will deal damage in a small AoE and infect the closest enemy unit.

Voidlings can also be targeted by this ability, sending them into a frenzy for some seconds. They will attack the closest unit at a much faster rate, but Malzahar loses all control over them (Excluding W). After three autoattacks, infected Voidlings will deal damage in a small AoE and infect the closest Voidling. This cannot happen more than once, unless Malzahar uses his E a second time on the voidling.

  • R - Nether Grasp Passively, Voidlings apply Madness stacks to enemy champions on-hit.

Actively, Malzahar throws his dagger in a line, damaging the first enemy hit and applying a great slow. If the enemy has more than 10 Madness stacks, Malzahar doesn't slow the enemy but takes control over their mind for a short time. Controlled enemies can be moved around with the R key and they cannot use any movement ability, but they're free to autoattack and use their others abilities.

The world pretty much complains that a Malzahar kit centered around little AI units is bad.

Its one of the reasons why he was broken after his rework and got nerfed

Its one of the reasons why he was broken as a support and got nerfed

Its one of the reasons why he is relatively weak now due to sucking power out of the rest of his kit

Why would you think a rework that removes Malzahar's primary ranged damage spell and centered even more around Voidlings is a good idea???

The most balanced Voidling in the history of league imo were pre-rework Voidlings that were gated by spell casts.

They weren't readily spammable and therefore not oppressive.

They weren't an integral part of his kit and therefore a nice bonus

They allowed AD Malzahar to exist in a pretty balanced state as you lost power in your spells if you chose that route

They allowed any Malzahar build to stand a chance against the anti-mages like Kassadin and Pre-rework Galio.

They were viewed as cute mascots. (in my eyes at least)

And I totes miss them >_>
