(WIP) Avalon, The Thousand Swords
Hey! ^_^ So I've been reviewing champion concepts for quite awhile now but I've never actually posted a concept my self. So here's my first concept any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Avalon is a bruiser who has everything. Insane damage, CC, tankiness, and mobility. However they are all very conditional based on a stationary skill. Because of this he struggles to go on the offensive and thrives while defending. I HIGHLY advise you read the W first as this is everything his kit is based around the kit will make more sense with that.
Background: “They told me that this dream I follow is nothing but a sham…… They told me it’s nothing more than a past long gone…. They asked why do I follow this dream?
Because here I stand.” -Avalon, The Thousand Swords Those who invade the lands of Demacia must deal with a multitude of scenarios ranging from dealing with legions of knights to the abnormal wildlife to groups of powerful heroes. But perhaps one of the most bewildering scenarios for a raider would be to run into Avalon, The Thousand Swords. On their way to the destination the raiders would encounter a field of swords ranging from thin and graceful rapiers to hulking brutish great swords, and on top of this “hill” stands Avalon. Those who aren’t taken back by sheer number of swords (potentially for the taking) would realize that Avalon does not look like a Demacian…. In fact if they weren’t in Demacia they would’ve assumed this man to be Noxian….
Avalon is a man of Noxian blood; his parents were refugees from Noxus who in their desperation thought aid from their greatest enemy, Demacia. Amused by this the Demaicians granted the couple a place on the border of Demacia, it was a dangerous place filled bandits and wild beasts but the couple happily accepted and it was here along the shadow of Demacia that Avalon was born. Along its shadow Avalon was told of great stories of Demacia: how it was a place where anybody who wanted to do good was welcome, how it was a land of brave and noble heroes, how anyone could ascend to greatness. With these stories in mind Avalon dreamt of being a great hero of Demacia, his parents were against but Avalon always had that dream in his heart. When war raised its ugly head destroying everything he had known he followed the only thing he had left, his dream. Avalon answered Demacia’s call to arms and joined as a soldier. To Avalon’s joy he was set aside to become part of “special” forces that was to learn magic and act as elite force in the army. Unbeknownst to him this force was an experiment where peasants deemed unfit for battle were pushed aside and would forge mana based weapons but to Avalon it almost seemed his dream was coming true that he was on his path to become the hero he always dreamt of. And so Avalon trained, through sheer dedication and will Avalon was the only one of the 400 recruited peasants to master turning mana into weapons (by then the experiment was considered a failure, the training rate was abysmal and the weapons created were unstable and only usable by the owner which defeated the whole purpose of the experiment.) Though he was never taught combat (something that confused the young Avalon) he would spy on the training regimen of nobles and practice in his own time eventually becoming a fairly decent swordsman. The nobles in the training facility would often laugh at him and make fun of him. But Avalon didn’t care. When the time came he would show that he was capable of becoming a hero. And his chance came. Noxians raided the training facility and while the nobles ran Avalon created a field of swords for others to use and even though nobody stood beside him he held his ground cutting down any Noxian who tried standing up to him. And there Avalon experienced war for what it was, as Avalon cut down the first soldier and as blood splattered his hands a thought occurred to him. In what way was this noble?! It was horrible, it was disgusting, it was…..wrong……. But Avalon kept cutting down the soldiers to protect those behind him and believing he would at least be recognized as a hero. When the dust clear and the awards for bravery were being handed out, Avalon stepped forward believing this was his moment. Only to be rudely shoved back into the crowd, his peers shouted out in complaint and a few of his teacher tried to object but he was denied any recognition. Instead the nobles who ran, who had jeered him were given rewards for bravery. This isn’t right…….. This isn’t right!!! Thought Avalon, how was this right?! How had he not proven himself a hero?! He had saved so many, he had fought, he had bled, how was this happening!? At the same moment the Noxians had returned and stormed the camp once more. And once again Avalon held his ground running to the top of the hill and creating as many swords as he could. And there his dream shattered as the nobles were prioritsed and the peasants were left to die all to be cut down. People he held as heroes ran for their lives instead of standing bravely. And he was left alone on his hill of swords surrounded by dead Noxians and Demcians. And once again he had nothing left but a dream, a shattered and broken dream. At that moment Avalon had nothing not even a dream to keep him going. He created one last sword, something he was once so proud of and was about to take his own life when the most perplexing thing happened. A yordle appeared a small yordle with a huge hammer and blond pigtails appeared among the hill of swords. She said she was looking for a hero. “They’re all dead.” The broken Avalon replied. The yordle looked down but quickly brightened up. “What about you! Yeah! You look like you could be a hero! I Think?” She replied “I’m no hero……” ‘Why not? Anyone can be a hero! Well not really anyone….But most people can!” She then went on telling stories about Demacia, about it being a place how it was a place where anybody who wanted to do good was welcome, how it was a land of brave and noble heroes, how anyone could ascend to greatness, the very dream that had been shattered. “And what if this Demacia doesn’t exist?” Avalon on the verge of tears replied. The yordle hesitated at first but after a bit of thinking “Well ummm…. I guess I would make it so it does exist?” Avalon didn’t think the yordle knew what she was talking about but he still found meaning in her words. Even if his dream was fake it didn’t mean it couldn’t become a reality. And on that hill of swords Avalon found his resolution. He thanked the yordle but turned down the hammer, he wasn’t a hero yet and he didn’t have much use for a hammer he had enough swords already (which confused the yordle since he was only holding one). And so Avalon stands tall on his hill of swords following his broken dream to prove that his Demacia can exist; that it can be a place for everyone that wants to do good, that it can be a place where great heroes reside, that it is a place where anyone even a lowly Noxian can ascend to greatness. He does this by still follows his old dream trying to prove to Demacia that despite what it has become that he still can become a hero. He hopes by doing this he can prove that the Demacia that the Demacia the little yordle described still exists. Many have challenged and questioning him how does he know that this dream can exist? And to that he has four words. “Because here I stand.” -Avalon, The Thousand Swords
Resource: Manaless Explanation: It makes sense for him to have mana as his swords are composed of mana but his kit is based around spamming Hill of Swords in combat so I decided it would be best to make him resourceless.
Passive: Arcane Steel
Avalon's swords form unstable mana within their target, upon a thrid strike the unstable mana reacts violently inflicting fatal damage.
Every time Avalon autoattack an opponent with a W empowered auotoattack applies a mark for 15 seconds. When two marks are applied Avalon’s next W empowered auto will instead execute the target dealing % of missing hp as bonus true damage.
Explanation: Yes a three hit mechanic but this was my favorite iteration of the ability. it rewards Avalon satisfyingly for hitting consecutive swords on an opponent and at the same time provided counterplay. well sort of the original ability just did a flat percent damage around 20% per sword which was bs. I wanted to make the swords powerful but i didn't want them to be absolute nukes, a three hit system lets me lower the damage on the first two initial hits and ramp up the damage on the last one.
Q: Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 Range: 550 Active: Avalon clicks on a fully formed sword and dashes to the sword. If an enemy is within 300 range of the sword he stuns them for .75 seconds. If he has not yet equipped a sword he’ll equip it upon reaching the sword.
Explanation: This acts as Avalon's mobility as well as method of punishing those who dare try and break his swords. it allows him to dash around the battlefield from sword to sword rewarding Avalon for maintaining a hill of swords.
It also acts as a way to stop people form just walking over his swords. Breaking his swords has a risk to it, making yourself susceptible to being jumped on and getting hit with up to two swords. Though it's not guaranteed, the skill is a dash meaning with proper reaction you can get off the sword before getting stunned.
W: Hill of Swords Cooldown: 20/18/16/14/12 Range: 750 Description: Avalon forges arcane swords out of mana. These swords spawn on the battlefield as blue silhouettes, if disturbed these swords will shatter, if let alone for a while they will solidify into unstable arcane steel swords. disturbing these blades too will cause them to shatter however Avalon can pick them up and slash a target causing the sword to react dealing heavy damage and destroying the sword in the process.
Active: Avalon clicks within the range of the spell and spawns a sword. This sword forms for 1.5 seconds, if an enemy stands on the sword while it’s forming for .75 seconds it shatters granting 25 gold. If the swords fully form Avalon can interact with it with his abilities as well as pick up to empower his auto. He can only wield one sword at a time.
When picked up Avalon’s next auto will do 3%/4%/5%/6%/7% +1% for every 25 bonus AD he builds of the targets total hp as bonus physical damage as well as apply a stack of Arcane Steel.
An enemy can break his swords by standing within 300 range of it for 1.5 seconds. If Avalon leaves 1250 range of a sword for five seconds the swords break instantly when stepped on. Broken swords grant 15 gold.
Every time Avalon autos an enemy the cooldown of Hill of Swords is reduced by 2.
Avalon may only have 3/4/5/6/7 swords at a time.
Explanation: These swords are the key to Avalon, with them he's incredibly powerful without them he's useless. They are what provides Avalon with his damage, mobility, tankiness, and CC however they have their restrictions and counterplay. it's also what allows him to take nearly any champion on shredding them with high percent health damage. They can be be destroyed completely gutting Avalon's damage.
Due to how stationary these swords are Avalon struggles to go on the offensive, any sword he places down will be instantly focused and destroyed making it really hard for him to get going. he can mange it but it's rough and awkward. He's at his strength when he has already reinforced an area with swords which makes it very difficult for enemies to approach him.
The swords have a relatively high cooldown so he can't keep replacing them if enemies start shattering his hill of swords so he can't stall them forever. However the cooldown goes down in combat so he can constantly throw down new swords to keep up his damage but only while fighting.
While fighting Avalon must constantly throw down new swords, however he has to be smart about where to put them. Throwing them near him also means it's near his enemies making it easy for enemies to break them.
E: Avalon can only cast this spell when wielding a sword. When cast Avalon raises his sword for .25 seconds, after .25 seconds he spins the sword around him(for those who’ve played smash think of Link’s spin) stunning everyone within a 400 range for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds as well as applying Arcane Steel. Casting this spell consumes Avalon’s sword.
Explanation: This allows Avalon to handle multiple opponents at once with AOE CC, however it's a gamble. he shows he's going to use the ability and must sacrifice a sword, his method damaging someone to use it making it a very risky move.
R: Here I Stand Passive: For every sword Avalon is within 1000 range of Avalon gains 10/15/25 Armor and Magic Resist stacking up to 1/3/5 times. Active: Avalon channels for 2.5 seconds and summon a ring of 5/6/7 fully formed swords. Range 650 Cooldown 120/100/80
Explanation: Passive: This is mainly just to give Avalon some natural survivabiltily while tying it in with his swords. Probably a bit too much and subject to change.
Active: This lets Avalon immediately choose an area and set up his swords. Say he and his team want to siege the enemy base, he can immediately drop down his swords instead of waiting on CD for each individual sword. This is NOT an "I got caught let me throw down a ton of swords" button. If he wants to use it he mush channel for 2.5 seconds leaving him vulnerable to getting killed and CCed.
Role: Avalon is a bruiser who excels at defending positions, he doesn't go diving the carry and focuses on protecting objectives or dissuading dives. he'll choose an area like a turret or dragon and pretty much force the enemy team into a predicament. Do we slowly remove Avalon's swords or do we fight and risk Avalon's AOE CC and high damage? Against dive comps and with siege comps. He wants his enemies to come to him and while he can't poke he can scare a team from diving him.
Problems: This kit is far from perfect and there are a few things that I would like some help with.

Numbers I honestly made most of these numbers on the spot, I'll refine them but I'll need time. What do you think about these numbers? Too high? Too low? i don't really have much experience with this especially range so feedback is HIGHLY appreciated.

Tank Avalon With so much percent health damage tank Avalon becomes an option. I DO NOT want this to be strong. One of my worst memories in LOL is dealing with old Elise who went magic pen and full tank. i couldn't figure out why she was allowed to do so much damage and be so tanky at the same time. That's why Avalon has the AD scaling on his W and will have AD scaling on Arcane Steel. if he wants damage he has to build damage, I plan on lowering the base of both skills so he needs AD to do significant amounts of damage. Numbers and other ways to eliminate tank Avalon would be appreciated.

Should Arcane Steel be on his W? Originally Arcane Steel was on his W but at this point I felt it he was starting to become overloaded so I moved it to the passive. what are your guys thoughts on this?
-
Waveclear Avalon is supposed to excel at defending location buts he lacks waveclear so he kind of has a hard time protecting turrets. I mean he can buy a hydra but i would rather have an option is his kit. Do you guys think this is an issue?

Oh and title, 1000 swords doesn't make much sense but it was the best I could come up with. Any ideas with that?
Thanks for reading this so far! ^_^ I'll have a proper lore and tinker up the kit in a few days. Any feedback and thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
