[CC] Terrene, the Daughter of the Earth (anti-mobility mage)

Name: Terrene (think Terra plus Irene) Race: Yordle Height: 1 meter (roughly half a head taller than Tristana) Gender: Female Age: Adult There is an image attached below! (sorry for the poor resolution, my scanner didn’t do my sketch justice. For the best view, tilt your monitor back about 30 degrees and it should look better).

Design Philosophy: Terrene is a concept I’ve been working on for almost 6 months now, and also incorporates some features of an older champion design of mine (such as her earth wielding aesthetic and the majority of her ultimate). The driving design criteria behind this kit are “anti-mobility” and “earth mage”. For her kit, I drew inspiration from several sources, including pre-rework Xerath, my own previous concept that drew on Janna, J4 and Amumu, the Bloodseeker of DotA 2, and some real life examples. I felt like adding a Bloodseeker-esque passive was an excellent way to combine both goal themes together with a movement=damage type of effect that imitates real life situations (you know the one, you’re at the beach, and you get up but your suit rubs you raw because it’s full of grit). connecting with Xerath’s old “locus of power” ability, I felt that an Earth mage tapping into the soil beneath her and gaining power from it was much more thematically sound than it was on Xerath, while opening up an opportunity for adding windows of strength and weakness in her kit. She is built around combating mobile champions, and, while she is good at disengaging a fight, if she does get closed in on she is quite squishy and vulnerable to enemy burst mages.

Lore: The mysteries that surround Terrene are numerous. How did a simple creature of Bandle City suddenly become able to manipulate the earth? How did she discover her vaunted helm of power? What is she searching for as she crosses the caverns of Valoran? One thing is for certain: trying to stop the inexorable Terrene is a fool's mission. (JUST KIDDING) (+1 if you get it :D)

Her REAL Lore: “I didn’t like those traders, something felt… off… about this deal Veigar.” Terrene glanced over her shoulder inquisitively at Veigar. “Don’t worry about it ‘rene, we’ve dealt with shady merchants before and it’s always the same, it’s just a big bluff to try and get us to pay extra for their ‘rare’ goods.” Veigar always had a way with his charisma and charm of being able to sooth any of his companions during their long merchant treks, and Terrene of all people ought to know that best as his closest friend and confidant. “I know, I know, it’s probably the same old pile of rubbish as every other deal, but I can’t shake the feeling that this is all going to go terribly wrong.” “If it makes you any more comfortable, I’ll be right here next to you. Besides, you’re the bravest and boldest Bandle city’s got to offer! That’s why I chose you to join me on my trips, er, at least part of why…” “I would feel sooo much more comforted by that if you weren’t talking to my elbow” “Well now ‘rene, I can’t help that you’re about the tallest Yordle alive, but I’m ok being a "shortie" if it makes you feel more normal, eh?” “Oh stop it, you’re making me blush…” Terrene glanced back again and flashed Veigar a little smirk as he trumped along with a big adventurous grin plastered across his face beaming back at her.

Then a menacing battle cry tore the scene apart.

Terrene shrieked as a group of large Noxian men came barreling out of the nearby brush swords and spears raised to attack. Jeeter dropped his pack at the back of the line and dove towards the ankle of one man, and Dervan and Vriss tried to run to the left. Terrene and Veigar ran back as their other companions were mercilessly brutalized by the Soldiers. Terrene held back tears as she and Veigar darted in and out of the brush in an attempt to lose the Noxians, their merchandise long forgotten. “I knew, it was wrong, I knew…” she whimpered. “Shut it and run ‘rene, it doesn’t matter if you knew if we don’t make it out of here anyway!”

They split up, and rejoined again, their tiny legs pedaling through the undergrowth. Terrene’s longer frame gradually outpaced Veigar, and before long she lost sight of him. Frantically, she turned back in an attempt to rejoin him, only to stumble into the clearing where he had been pinned to the ground by a soldier who was binding his arms and legs. She grabbed a nearby rock and hurled it at the soldier plunk. His comrades began striding forward towards the tall Yordle girl, with cords in their hands, and only Veigar’s voice broke the trance Terrene was in. “Run Terrene, RUN! You can’t help me, GO!”

She turned on a dime and sped away 4 paces before tripping into a dark chasm in the earth.

She awoke days… maybe a week later. She was famished, her legs bruised heavily from the fall and her left wrist clearly broken since her hand was twisted sideways and backwards. She felt the cloying moisture in the air and a small rivulet trickling past her ankle. With her good arm she began pulling herself alone the stream hoping there may be a pool at the end she could drink from. Soon she lurched into a larger, more open cavern, the wall glittering prismatically with numerous crystals and geodes. In the center of the vault stood a large pedestal like altar, a small figure hunched over it as if in deep thought in the dim light. Terrene surreptitiously padded towards the figure, gently laying a hand on their shoulder. She could not control her terrified shriek as the corpse disintegrated into a pile of dust, leaving only an odd ceremonial helm in her hands. Overcoming her disgust, her trader’s eye picked out a large inset gemstone made of some glassy clear crystal. gently placing the relic on her head, she realized its power as the room suddenly became aglow with the reflections and refractions of thousands of bursts of color and light. The dust of the disintegrated corpse at her feet sank into the water around her feet, swirling into a thick mud. The earth swirled up about her legs, and then her torso, finally covering her arms and face. Terrene shrieked one last time as the earth covered her mouth before realizing a strong burning sensation in her legs, arms, and stomach as the soil rejuvenated her body and charged her with power. The dust crumbled away from her, settling on the floor of the cave again, and now the vessel on the altar glowed, and a faint voice echoed out whispering, “Long we have waited for a successor…” “Who, what, this helmet, I… Successor?” “Husssshhh now… the daughters of the earth are… an ancient line… and you are the first to follow... in… centuries…” “Follow what? Wait, why?” “You shall inherit the sum of our… power… and a path of… escape… from this cavern… in exchange for acceptance of your… position… as the last high sorceress of our sect…” “But I don’t know magic, I’m just a Yordle trying not to die down here.” “You will accept… and rejuvenate our line anew with fresh… acolytes… The Earth shall provide the… magic… for you all…” “What do I do?” “Simply... wear the helm of earth-sight and we shall… guide…”

(Several Years Pass)

Veigar sat hunched behind a large log, scheming a way to distance himself from his bungled “Mothership” heist, as well as evade the special ops team that was tracking him. He angrily smote the ground with his staff, blasting a small crater in the earth. To his amazement, the crater began caving inwards, growing larger and larger into a large crevasse right in front of him. From within, a tall slender Yordle woman strode forth, clawed gauntlets on her arms and a brilliant helm gleaming on her head. the earth swirled away from her feet forming perfect stairs. She gasped and Veigar saw several tears run down her cheeks from beneath the helm. “Who are you, why have you interrupted my brooding?” “Your voice is so different, so harsh and creaky…” “Speak before I blast your soul beyond the netherworld!” Removing her helm, tears still in her eyes, Terrene replied, “Veigar, it’s me, don’t you recognize me shortie?” “Why, you FOOL! Is that a short joke? Nobody gets away with that, NOBODY! Except for… her… Wait… you… how? No!” she walked up, summoning a boulder to sit on before leaning in towards Veigar’s ear to whisper gently, “It seems you’re not the only one who’s changed, Veigar”

Stats: HP: 521, +71 (1728) HP5: 5.0 +0.5 (13.5) MP: 290 +36 (902) MP5: 6 +0.8 (19.6) Range: 525 MS: 330 AD: 51 +3 (102) AS: 0.650 +3.2% (1.004) Armor: 21 +3.3 (77.1) MR: 30 +0 (30)

Kit/Abilities: (all numbers are subject to change and mostly there to give an idea of how the ability works, nothing is presumed balanced!)

Passive, Abrasive Grime: Whenever Terrene damages an enemy with one of her abilities, she applies the “Grimy” debuff onto them for the next 3/3.5/4/4.5 seconds (duration scales at levels 6/11/16). The “Grimy” debuff causes the enemy to take 1+(1% AP) magic damage for every 15 units they travel. This debuff applies fully to distance traveled by all dashes, knockbacks, pulls, and other movement abilities (forced or otherwise), but does not apply to blinks or global teleports. Reapplying the debuff only refreshes the duration.

Q, Geokinesis: Active: After a 0.25 second cast time, Terrene launches 6 small boulders in the target direction one after the other (0.1 second delay between projectiles), dealing magic damage and shredding the MR of the first target hit for 3 seconds. Units hit by consecutive projectiles take 20% damage and shred after the first. Damage per boulder: 55/85/115/145/175 +(40% AP). Max damage: 110/170/230/290/350 +(80% AP). MR shred: 6/7/8/9/10%. Max MR shred: 12/14/16/18/20%. 80 mana. 16/15/14/13/12 second cooldown. Range: 1000. Projectile speed: 2000.

W, Earth-tap: Active: Terrene roots herself in place for up to 4/4.5/5/5.5/6 seconds, becoming immune to displacement effects (does not affect any other form of CC) and enhancing all of her other abilities for the duration. This affect can be canceled after only 0.5 seconds. Geokinesis bonus: +20/27.5/35/42.5/50% increased range, projectile speed, and MR shred. Landslide bonus: +20/27.5/35/42.5/50% field width and slow strength. Terraform bonus: Deals an additional 7/9/11/13/15% current health magic damage and gives 20/27.5/35/42.5/50% increased bonus movement speed strength and duration. 50 mana +5 mana per 0.5 seconds the root is maintained (max 90/95/100/105/110 mana). 26/23/20/17/14 second cooldown. Cooldown begins when the effect ends.

E, Landslide: Active: Terrene creates a vector targeted directional mudslide that deals magic damage to enemies within it for 3 seconds. Enemies facing into the mudslide take an additional 50% damage per second and are slowed by 30/35/40/45/50%. Damage is dealt every 0.5 seconds for a total of 6 instances of damage. Total Damage: 60/90/120/150/180 +(60% AP) Max damage: 90/135/180/225/270 +(90% AP). 70/75/80/85/90 mana. 18/17/16/15/14 second cooldown. Field size: 800 long 300 wide. Cast range: 700.

R, Terraform: Active: Terrene slams the ground, blasting an 800 radius area dealing magic damage to all enemy units and gaining a short 1 second burst of move speed. Enemies within 500 range are rooted for 2/2.5/3 seconds and dealt 150/250/350 +(50% AP). Enemies between 500 and 800 range are knocked back 300 units by a wall of impassible terrain and dealt 225/375/525 +(75% AP). The terrain forms at the edge of the 800 unit AoE and lasts for 5 seconds; all units can walk out over top of the ring of terrain (enemy or ally) but no units can walk into the terrain (enemy or ally). Activating this ability automatically ends Earth-tap’s effects if active at the time of cast. MS bonus: 70/85/100%. 100 mana, 150/135/120 second cooldown.

Pros/Strengths: Excellent counter to high mobility Long range on her main abilities Excellent disengage Great at disrupting fights Great damage vs mobile champions Strong zoning power

Cons/Weaknesses: When facing immobile champions, she is more of an annoyance than a threat Moderately long cooldowns Main disengage is on a huge cooldown Very squishy Very low mobility Vulnerable to burst and poke champions If someone gets on top of her, she has very limited ways of dealing with them Mana hungry Using W at inopportune times can leave her incredibly vulnerable

Strategy (Combos, Gameplay Style, etc.): Her passive is what makes her strong against highly mobile champions. If the enemy team has several hyper mobility champions such as Hecarim, Kalista, Vayne, etc, then Terrene’s passive will force them to either slow down a bit or gradually kill themselves. Q is an excellent tool for poke since it can easily hit multiple targets if aimed well, and each boulder applies her passive. Using Q early in her combo is a reliable way to amplify the rest of your damage through the MR shred it provides. This is a strong ability to max first W is almost purely a utility spell, and is best maxed last. it provides significant utility bonuses to her other abilities including range, CC, and MS strength, but generally, those bonuses are less effective than the damage gained from ranking her other abilities. E is a potent form of disengage and zone control which allows Terrene to dictate the path her enemies take, usually forcing them to walk away or around the mudslide. R is immensly powerful for escaping a bind, but it requires good judgment and strategy to use effectively. Simply activating it when being dived can work, but you have to factor in whether the diver has a method of breaking the root or if you need to reposition in a way that you instead knock them back on the opposite side of the crater for better safety. The short burst of MS is excellent for bailing out of a fight that is turning sour, but the ability’s lengthy cooldown means it is not a tool to be used casually at the first sign of danger.

Her main combos are: W>Q, W>E, W>R, E>Q, W>E>Q (full poke combo), R>W>Q>E (back off so I can blast you), W>E>Q>R (bait and run)

Suggested items: item 3174 item 3151 item 3285 item 3089 item 3116 item 3040 item 3135 item 3157 item 3020

I hope you all enjoy this concept, and if you would, please leave a +1 and share your thoughts!

I enjoy this a lot.

Passive: This is pretty unique and really accomplishes the fact that she counters heavy-mobility champions.

Q: Great. No further questions.

W: Yay, I loved Xerath's old mechanic, glad you brought it back!

E: This looks like a skillful ability, since you'll need to aim it exactly right to get the bonus damage.

R: Well I mean, she'd have to put herself in a lot of danger to cast this ult. :(

Also, I have a question. Do you enjoy designing champions a lot? Because I want to you to help me out with this project I've been doing for a long time. Here's the website that I tried to make about it. Read the text on the home page for more information if you want to help: http://icyjk913.wix.com/aria I hope you say yes because we need help and it has a lot of similarties to League of Legends so it should be pretty easy to relate. The e-mail to contact me is on there. :)

sounds interesting, but the root duration seems a bit long on the ult? maybe reduce each by .5 sec. or make it a flat amount

she seem neat but her range is kind of sick less than graves i think the w should buff her auto range maybe like passiv thing

Awesome, I will give this an upvote. It is an awesome concept and I would totally play her if she was a champion in League of Legends indeed, no question. I was actually thinking about creating an earth wielding shaman with native american backgrounds, guess I might have to change his powers now. Either way this totally deserves an upvote. Her challenging and different abilities and personality is what makes her fun. If you'd like to, It'd be cool if you wouldn't mind checking out my latest concept Div'Odon, perhaps we could discuss later details. Anyway I hope to see Terrene succeed and hope Riot notices it.

I was honestly thinking about a champion like this a few days ago. I just like the whole idea of an "earth mage", and frankly, I love the idea of Terrene...like she needs to be made, soon. When I was thinking of an "earth mage" type champion, I was trying to think of ways to make him/her be really unique. One of my ideas was, since they were an earth mage, their abilities could interact with the terrain on a map by applying some type of Crowd control effect or additional damage. For example, If Terrene uses Terraform and knocks an enemy champion into a wall, they could possibly take additional damage, or become silenced. I only provided that example in the instance that the root duration gets lowered, as someone previously mentioned. I really love this concept, so much that I'm probably going to go use Photoshop and Illustrator right now to make some art based on this :)
