[Champion Concept] Mazen, the World Eater
Background "This is your end, World Eater." The voice of one of the Ancient Ones roared above the cries of battle below. High atop an ancient pantheon within a tower we were. Myself and the thirteen Ancient Ones. They were prepared, and I had been foolish to underestimate their power, and the anger I held towards that mistake knew no bounds as I lashed out in fury. My magic lashing out. Soon, however, everything became void. Darkness, what I knew so very well, had encompassed me. They had succeeded. I was now trapped inside their prison. However, I was not so unprepared. Simply miscalculated. In time, I would be free once again.
I had long ago sent out pieces of myself in the case this would happen. I was not stupid. Foolish at times, but not stupid. I had calculated for this posibility as I had heard of the Ancient Ones power. Thirteen powerful entities which protected a series of worlds. I craved to test my powers, but was not so stupid as to do so without a contingency.
In my quest to conquer worlds and devour those who would not submit I needed aids. I could not very well do this alone, but who was there to trust but myself? And so from myself I spread my massive power across the realms in various forms, and now....I could feel them. Even within this prison. Even as they weaken my powers I could still feel them and sense what they were doing. After all, they were a part of myself. For years I sensed their movements. Centuries even as I lay in this prison. Soon I would be free.
To one, an orb. An orb of great power meant as a catalyst. It granted great power to a kingdom. I watched as they studied it and used it to their advantage. They even created an order served with protecting it. However, one foolish being thought they could control it, but it was only corrupting her. Using her to conquer that world or destroy it should they not surrender and siphon its powers for myself. However, a err was made. The orb was broken, shattered and its powers lost to me. A swordsman. His power was great. It intrigued me. He could match...no, beat my power.
Across worlds of time and space was sent an amorphous blob. Its objective: Siphon power for me. It did just that. Across many worlds it tore across. Accumulating much power. It was only when it came to a magi rich world that it met its end. A young mage user sealed it away in a zone even my power could not reach nor penetrate. It was gone forever, but still destroyed the mages world. I know not what happened to this mage as the moment the blob ceased to exist, so too did my eyes on that world. Yet I would be interested in meeting them and siphoning their life and power...should they still be alive.
The third. I sent my most loyal of knights infused with parts of myself to do what they do best. Conquer. The Demon Lords of Irinith they are called. They were quite successful until one fateful encounter. I heard about this "love" thing, but never knew it could drive such a person to such extremes. A lone man pushed through their power to save the one he loved only for her to die on him, and yet...not die. It was such a unique and touching moment that even I felt a twinge in my twisted dark heart. This power...I must taste it.
Upon their defeat and repulsion from this world, they were on their way to me. The Demon Lords of Irinith. It was time. The light was bright, but my eyes adjusted quickly. The thirteen Ancient Ones before me as I broke free of my bonds. Their faces spoke nothing of fear even as the swords of the Demon Lords pierced their chests.
"You shall fall once again World Eater, this is but a short respite for you," they spoke in unison and with that they vanished into dust.
I smiled for I was free, and the knowledge of those who had combated pieces of me and won was fresh in my mind. It drove me. That power. It would be mine. As I waved my hand before me to open a portal to the closest location...nothing appeared. I had forgotten the draining of my powers while in the prison in my haste to go meet them. I had not enough to jump worlds...yet.
The Demon Lords saw this pause, and in an instant they sought me out. I suppose they weren't so loyal after all. Their swords came down on nothing but smoke as the room filled with darkness.
"I may not have the power to traverse worlds at the moment, but I have more than enough to deal with traitorous welps like you," my voice echoed around them as they took up formation in a circle, swords outstretched and ready. I could feel their fear. They knew their mistake. Yet, even so they stood steadfast. I knew there was a reason I admired them and also entrusted them with much in the past. Now, however. They would serve a final purpose.
I moved. Sweeping in the shadows, my hand piercing their chest. They dropped, immobile on the floor. Looking down on them in disgust I lifted into the air as black smoke eminated from their bodies, "You have something of mine....I'll be taking that back. Perhaps I'll create you again later...but perhaps with less free will. Miscalculation on my part."
The black smoke drained their bodies which soon became nothing but smoke. Their power and that of mine infused within them surged through my own body. Empowering me once more. Not as I once was, but strong enough. A wave of my hand and a portal appeared. It was time to meet them.
Zael awoke in the night, cold sweat upon their face. "It's here."
Zoth looked up from sharpening his sword, a cold hard glare in his eyes acentuated by the flames of the fireplace. Determination set into him.
Valen, leaned against the wall, stopped the twirling of his dagger to look at Zael. "So, this thing wants a fight?" Lightning surged across his skin, "Well, we don't go down easily." His hand then cupped his precious locket, lovingly caressing it.
Zael understood. This not only would be a fight for them, but all of Runeterra. The World Eater has arrived.

NAME The World Eater's name is Mazen. However, he has shed this name and rarely hears it spoken anymore as most just call him "The World Eater" for his tendency to eat worlds. Absorbing them and gaining more power.
Mazen is pronounced mAH-Zen. So when speaking it the first part would sound like ma/mah (like you would address your mother if you said Ma) and then Zen. Exactly the word Zen.
In his ancient language, the language of his people this means "Of Magic" or "Born of Magic" among other meanings such as "The Arcane One". This namesake was due to his powerful innate abilities with magic upon birth as even the elders of his village at the time sensed in him great power.
Appearance The World Eater appears as a dark cloaked figure. His very being exudes darkness and so he has a constant shadowy fog around him, particularly strong around his feet which gives the illusion that he is floating when he isn't. His cloak is relatively worn and frayed at the bottom where it is splayed out around him. Underneath this cloak is a dark plate armor etched with runes that glow between dark greens and blues. His entire body is covered, and his face is not seen. The only thing visible about his face is his eyes which alternate between the same colors of the runes. While not shown, as he is completely covered, underneath his armor runes are also etched into his very skin of which has become a sort of shadowy form of his previous self. As if there, but not. His body nothing but darkness now.
This image isn't accurate, but gives at least a base of what I was going for. Please use your imagination for the rest. Thank you. ^_^ http://akimg3.ask.fm/assets2/142/149/934/848/normal/img_1372943776.jpg This image is the closest I could find of a figure with both armor and cloak. All others were either too much armor or not the right type of "feel" to it.
There are differences of course. As I said, the above image is not 100% accurate, but more so a base to use as a visual. The differences should be obvious, but I hope with the above description (above the picture) and the below description (about his weapon) you can accurately visualize what I was going for! ^_^
Basic Attacks The World Eater attacks using a large sword which is created by compressing darkness into a hard black metal. Runes are etched along the blade which alternate between dark green and dark blue. He wields this blade in one hand as he attacks, switching it between hands during continous melee. He is ambidextrous.
His basic attacks also cause Magic Damage rather than Physical Damage. The damage he causes is calculated like so: Base AD + 70% Bonus AD + 50% AP = Basic Attack Magic Damage.
Example: 100 + 140 (70% of 200 Bonus AD) + 150 (50% of 300 AP) = 390 Magic Damage as Basic attack. This is just an example of course. Numbers may vary, and I may tweak these numbers as I go, or via feedback.
Movement The World Eater moves at a steady pace. Never in a rush. He never runs. If his movement speed would put him at the place where other champions change run animation, he simply begins floating, shown by him being lifted slightly, while keeping his back upright. This assures that he is never seen running. After all, who would be afraid of someone who runs?
Abilities Most of his abilities have a purple or black tinge/aura/coloring to them. So when thinking of these abilities try to imagine them in this color. I may have also specified their appearance in the ability itself, but if I haven't this is the look I was going for. ^_^
Quick Synopsis The World Eater is a Melee Mage with the makings of a Fighter/Tank meant to be a huge pressence on the field. Dealing damage and wrecking face when he comes into lane using his abilities. However, without these abilities he is quite slow and therefore he has to be calculating. Choosing his moments to engage. After all, conquering a world takes time and planning. You can't just go in without a strategy. That's how you get surrounded and overcome. Thus, his abilities leave him vulnerable to being cut off and without mobility to escape should he misjudge.
Stats Health: 550-2100 Health Regen: 5-18 Mana: 400-1300 Mana Regen: 7-22 Armor: 25-87 Magic Resist: 32.1-53.4 Attack Damage: 55-100 Attack Speed: 0.65-0.98 Attack Range: 200 Movement Speed: 325 Primary Role: Mage Secondary Role: Fighter/Tank
Passive https://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/92/92130-1fea515330cd705530622e1cd0a72b25_tn2.jpg Drain Each basic attack landed by the World Eater upon a target applies a stack of the debuff "Drain" which saps 5% movement speed from the target for 1s. Stacks 6 times. The World Eater is granted 5% Attack Speed per "Drain" stack on his target. Duration refreshes with each strike.
https://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/96/96869-ac86800f06d3cb4875c08c98c06f8886_tn2.jpg Death The next basic attack or ability from the World Eater on a target with max "Drain" stacks explodes causing 25/50/75/100 (+2/3/4/5% of their Maximum Health) as magic damage instantly and are slowed by 30/40/50/60% for 3s. The debuff "Death" replaces the debuff "Drain" during this. This means that while "Death" is active on a target that target cannot have "Drain" stacks applied to them. The "Death" debuff lasts for 3s which is the duration of the slow on the target.
On enemy champions at or below 10/15/20/25% Maximum Health this damage is dealt as True Damage. Enemy minions always take True Damage.
After "Death" has ended on a target "Death" may not occur again for the next 6s after it ends. However, "Drain" stacks may still be applied. During this 6s cooldown period enemies with max "Drain" stacks will simply have the duration of "Drain" refreshed. Should they have max stacks once their immunity duration of "Death" ends and they are attacked then "Death" will be applied to them.
ADDITIONAL NOTES For champions who are in a state that causes them not to be slowed the stacks of "Drain" are still applied, but they are simply not slowed. An example of this would be if Yi was in Highlander and was hit by the basic attacks of the World Eater he would not be slowed, but still would apply the "Drain" stacks and grant the World Eater his Attack Speed increase. Yi would also take the damage from "Death" but, unless his Highlander ended, he would not be slowed then either.
Q https://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/90/90133-58ee9a3bdac7714927ff62ce7daabcf6.jpg World Cutter The World Eater unleashes his blade with a mighty upward swing sending an upward shockwave in target 600 unit direction. Enemies hit by this are knocked up for 0.25s and dealt 40/60/80/100/120 (+30% AD)(+70% AP) magic damage.
Enemy Champions, large or epic monsters hit by this are marked for 3s granting vision of them. Marked enemies allow "World Ender" to be activated.
Cooldown: 16/14/12/10/8s. Goes on cooldown if no enemy champions, large or epic monsters are hit, or after World Ender is activated or the marks run out. Cost: 80/85/90/95/100
https://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/82/82421-b2e136362847ce4be939b7132c6c845e_tn2.jpg World Ender World Ender can be activated if an enemy champion, large or epic monster is marked. If activated the World Eater slices the air before him with his blade. From his blade crescent waves are sent forth towards all marked champions at a movement speed of 1600 with a range of 1000. These projectiles home in on the champions, but cannot exceed their range.
These waves cause 30/60/90/120/150 (+20% Bonus AD)(+50% AP) worth of damage to enemy minions or small monsters along their path. These waves stop upon hitting an enemy champion, large or epic monster, or if they reach their max range. Upon hitting an enemy champion, large or epic monster they deal 60/90/120/150/180 (+20% Bonus AD)(+60% AP) magic damage. If they hit their intended target the marks are removed.
If World Ender is activated then World Cutter goes on cooldown. Even if the waves do not hit their intended target.
NOTES This ability might seem like a lot at first what with its description, but I wanted to get across what World Ender did without confusion.
This ability can be blocked by other champions as well as anything that blocks projectiles. So, anything like Braums Wall, Yasuo's Wind Wall, etc. can block this as well as any tank or champion that body checks it. Also, should a marked enemy leave the 1000 range of the crescent waves then they won't be able to get hit as the waves will end at 1000 units. However, this only applies to World Ender and not World Cutter. World Cutter is not a projectile in terms of how they interact with things.
This range starts at the World Eater. So the World Eater is at the center of this range when World Ender is activated, but after activation the center of this range does not move with him. Also, these crescent waves are a shadowy black mini Ezreal ults (about half the size) in terms of their shape. In terms of movement speed I'd say they are about as fast as Brand's Q. The range also is the range in which the champions who are marks must be in order to activate this ability. Should all marked enemies leave this range then World Ender could not be activated, and the ability goes on cooldown.
W https://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/74/74270-235da2b3194577f9be5fbfd8109cc537_tn2.jpg World Splitter The World Eater targets a 300 unit location within a 800 unit radius around him. Drawing his sword back horizontally he charges power for up to 1s before dashing to target location in a linear path dealing physical damage to all enemies in his path. Can be activated early to dash pre-emptively, but for less damage. Targets at target location scatter upon his arrival, being pushed to the outer edges of the impact radius.
Minimum damage 20/40/60/80/100 (+50% AD)(+30% AP) to a maximum of 80/115/150/185/220 (+50% AD)(+30% AP). This damage, as stated above, is physical.
The World Eater leaves a tear in the world behind him which slows enemies on it by 30%. This slow lasts for 1s. The tear lasts for 3s and grows in width over these 3s starting at 100 units at first and ends up at 300. The tear explodes automatically after reaching max width at the end of its duration dealing magic damage to enemies within it. The "Drain" debuff is applied every 0.5s to enemies within this tear.
The World Eater may activate this ability again anytime during or after the dash to explode the tear early, dealing less damage the sooner it is set off. Minimum damage 30/50/70/90/110 (+50% AP) up to Max Damage (full width and duration expires) of 60/100/140/180/220 (+50% AP). Minimum Damage is what is done if activated early.
Cooldown: 24/22/20/18/16s. Starts after the tear explodes. Cost: 90/95/100/105/110 Dash Speed: 1400
NOTES This ability has two extra possible activations, and so might seem a bit confusing or overloaded, but please bear with me. It's actually quite simple. It was just the best way I could describe the ability above. I'll try to clear some confusion, if you have any, in these notes.
After choosing target location he may activate this early to dash earlier, but dealing reduced damage. The second extra activation which explodes the tear early becomes available upon arrival after the dash and anytime during the tears duration.
During the dash he may activate this ability (the second extra activation) to explode the whatever tear is created at the time. Doing so will explode what tear is created and deal minimum damage, but the rest of the dash will not create a tear.
This is the World Eater's main engage ability, and so must be careful in his engagement or be stranded with little to no way out, or fail to even do anything.
E https://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/111/111594-e728988161f07b9011dbc429aeaae3cd_tn2.jpg Runic Power Passive: The Runic symbols etched upon the World Eaters armor and skin grants him power. Upon taking ranks in this skill the World Eater gains bonus Armor and Magic Resist. While out of combat he regens health at an increased rate.
For every rank in this ability the World Eaters Armor and Magic Resist increases by 10. At max rank he gains 50 bonus Armor and Magic Resist.
For every rank in this ability the World Eater regens 1% of his maximum health every second while out of combat. At max ranks he regens 5% of his maximum health every second while out of combat. He must be out of combat for 6s for this to activate.
Active Upon activation the World Eater emits a pulse in a 600 unit radius around him. Enemies hit by this pulse are silenced for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2s. 1s after activation this pulse then retracts and pulls all enemies towards him dealing 30/50/70/90/110 (+50% AD)(+70% AP) Magic Damage and grants him a shield worth 100/150/200/250/300 + 10/20/30/40/50% of the Damage done in this way.
NOTES This ability is mainly a defensive one. Used primarily after his W's dash to pull enemies in after knocking them away. This in combination with his W make for a very good combo. Follow this up with his Q and you can hit a lot of enemies at once making this a key ability for his combos.
R https://www.hiveworkshop.com/data/ratory-images/106/106785-1e171b2b2eec6402f67c11ba24b0aa6d_tn2.jpg Shadow's Shroud The World Eater turns into a shadowy mist and begins to expand. During this state he becomes invulnerable and untargetable. Starting at a 300 unit radius wherever the World Eater was when activating this ability the Shadowy Mist begins expanding at 50 units every 0.5s until it reaches a 1000 unit radius. Upon max radius the World Eater will rematerialize wherever he chooses within the mist.
While inside the mist the World Eater is invisible, but becomes visible whenever using an ability or attacking. Additionally, enemies within this mist are slowed by 10/20/30% and have vision placed upon them while within the mist and cannot enter stealth.
Enemies within this mist will be attacked by shadow clones (completely dark shadows) of the World Eater every second taking 50/100/150 (+30% AD)(+80% AP) magic damage.
Shadow's Shroud lasts for 6/8/10s after reaching full radius. If the World Eater leaves Shadow's Shroud it will quickly decrease in size by 100 units every 0.5s until it disappears. Re-entering will stop its descent and slowly increase back up. The duration does NOT reset. It simply resets the radius. Enemies inside Shadow's Shroud are no longer slowed when the World Eater is not within Shadow's Shroud.
Cooldown: 120/110/100s. Does not go on cooldown until after its duration ends. Mana Cost: 100/125/150
NOTES This ability is what makes the World Eaters presence immense upon the field. When he enters his ultimate it is best to run and not get caught in it. The speed at which the field increases is a fraction faster than Anivia's ultimate in expanded, or at least I'd like to think that it is. It's not that much faster though, but just for reference you can imagine it increasing in size like Anivia's ult does, but just a fraction faster. Though, I think they may have increased Anivia's ult speed since I started creating the World Eater. However, I simply use Anivia's ult as an example of how the World Eaters ult expands.
Additionally, enemies are outlined in a purple that is highlighted by black. This is the vision effect as well as a way to easily identify them within Shadow's Shroud. Despite this being a Shadowy Mist I did not want to decrease the enemies vision as that would overload the ultimate I feel, and as is, it is on the edge of possibly being too strong.
Simply put this is the ability in which he defeated those who tried to betray him in his Lore, and thus it has similar properties.
This ability also gives him a huge presence in that once this ult is activated, the area in which it resides is his now. Being inside of it would be foolish, and thus it is best to get out and stay away.
Other Information about the World Eater
Quotes "This world shall be quite the meal," Upon arrival in battle. "You've chosen well. Let us consume them all!" Upon selection. "So, you are insert name. I shall enjoy killing you," A taunt towards one of my other 3 champions: Zael, Zoth, and Valen. "I finally meet you, Insert name. It has been a long time coming," a reaction/comment towards one of my 3 other champions. "Be consumed by the dark!" Upon ultimate activation. "Shadow's, surround me!" Another saying he might say upon ultimate activation. "Scatter!" Upon scattering enemies with his W. "A fine cut!" Hitting several enemies with his Q. "Run? I do not run." Said sometimes whenever the player clicks to have him move. "This world is going to end, insert evil laugh" Upon victory.
Other quotes play off his theme of devouring the world, interactions with my other 3 champions, and some interactions with other champions. Specifically those of the void as they exude a certain aura that intrigues him. His personality in these quotes isn't inherently "evil", but more so he has a matter of fact way of speaking when it's something serious, but also tends to joke too. These jokes tend to be quite corny and sarcastic.
The World Eater doesn't have "friends" but he may have allies. These allies may include those of typical "evil" alignment or those who also want to destroy this world. Such as Brand who wants to burn the world.
Additional Lore
Zael, Valen, and Zoth are all a part of the World Eater's lore and thus all of them are a story together. I recommend reading their lores if you want to get the full picture and are interested in the story. The gist of it is that the World Eater sent the very things which destroyed each of their lives and worlds in one way or another, and thus they ended up here in Runeterra (see each of their lores for more details), and ended up finding each other to combat the "darkness" which comes for this world. Zael was the one who helped bring the other two together to fight the World Eater.
This is my first time at trying to create multiple champions with an overlapping story and theme. All of them have been displaced from their world due to the actions of the World Eater, and the World Eater wanted to find them and meet them. Presumably to absorb their powers for himself, or maybe just out of curiosity as they were the only ones in a long time able to compete with his power, even a fraction of it.
So, if you wish I linked to the other champions within his "enemies" section if you wanted to look at them as well.
Possible Item Sets
The World Eater wants to focus on increasing his durability as he is not the fastest champion out there, and must be able to survive in combat long enough to do what he needs to do. His basic attacks are one of the most important aspects, and anything to build off of that would be worth it.
The two items though that are extremely useful to him are
and
as they help to increase his basic attack damage output due to them both increasing magic damage on attack which is what the World Eater deals with basic attacks.
Thank you for taking your time reading this concept! I appreciate it! Please feel free to give any feedback that is constructive and helpful. I would appreciate it as I like talking over things with people, and explaining my thought process as I was creating the World Eater. So, perhaps with your help and talking things out with me I might be able to better create the World Eater, and you might understand what I was going for much better! ^_^
Thank you for your time. Feel free ask any questions you might have! ^_^
So, there you have Mazen, the World Eater!
