Keagn's Champion Concept Archive
(Bit of a bulk life story more-or-less, but concepts are linked at the bottom)
Hey guys. Some of you might know me for my crazy concepts, others have probably seen me around helping out people with questions and what not. Whether you know me or not isn't of any real concern here, but the contents of this post might show you a bit about what I enjoy doing every now and then: Champion Concepts. I'm fast approaching graduation (an entire year early, can you believe it?), and I'm looking into getting my Creative Writing Major in dire hopes of joining Riot Games or some other game company at some point either while I'm getting my degree, or afterwards. Companies like Riot and Bungie have long inspired me to do what I loved doing, but for awhile I wasn't sure what that was. I dabbled in drawing, sculpting, "pro-gaming" (the attempt at least, I wasn't much good at it), and my long held passion of writing. God do I love stories. Both reading and writing them are an immense experience (so long as they're good that is), and I realized everything that I had tried out in thoughts of a career came back to this love of writing. Both drawing and sculpting had been ways of giving my ideas physical form, but the stories I wrote were what always breathed life into them.
Most people were distraught because of the huge lore retcon, I wasn't as much. Maybe it's because I only learned about the game in season 2, but I had read every version of every characters lore, and a large deal of the judgements and JoJ's. When Tommy Gnox/Riot announced the retcon, all I could think of was the possibilities. Everything about it all intrigued me, and although a part of me was upset over the possibility of everything that was no longer being part of the lore, I knew it would always be part of the story. The big thing that hit me was "opportunity." I'm not all religious, but I'm well familiarized with the saying that "when God closes a door, he opens a window", and this was exactly that. The door to League's previous may have closed, but the window of opportunity ripped wide open. And it was wonderful. I knew I wanted to do anything and everything I had to to be a part of that, pursue that possibility, and indulge in my love of telling stories. This was what eventually made me pursue the dream, and become a "Narrative Designer" at Riot. I thought the label was a bit silly at first, but overall I recognize it as what it is: A writer, a lore-crafter. A storyteller. It aligned with everything I wanted, so that became my Green Light to pursue. My dream. Creating concepts has been a way to keep myself entertained, per say, and practice my craft and enjoy it in the meantime. I've done this in a variety of ways actually, between early fan-fictions, Journal Entries about the creatures of Summoner's Rift, and the most obvious, concepts.
Sorry, I went on a bit there. Anyway, here's a collection of my most recent concepts, all during the time of The Boards. If you want, I can add links to the Journal Entries as well. Without further ado, here may they be denizens to:
Yorick, The Gravedigger (Rework. Probably going to revisit this soon™.)
Widget and Bolt, Sparks of Ingenuity
Soon, I'll be adding in a relaunch of my very first concept: Percy, The Wild Painter. I have the art done, and most of the dialogue, just trying to bring his kit into the modern era and balance it out. Now that Percy's been brought into the light, I have a few concepts in mind. Some of them may even turn into community projects. Stay tuned, and thank you all :)
