DnD in Runeterra

I was just wondering and wanted to ask before I get to work on it, I am looking to branch into DnD and have been learning a lot about the game. Moreso, it is looking like thw role of DM will fall to me, and I wanted to get an early start on creating a proper story with which our maiden voyage among adventures to take place. What can make the first run special? The setting of course. My friends are into things like League of Legends, so I was considering a campaign in Runeterra, or at least an older iteration of it with the Institute of War in tact and operational. My only worry is copyright. My intent isn't to profit in any way, but I don't want to work something up, post it for my friends to use, and then get hit for using Riot's property.

It's DnD. If you're playing with your friends and not profiting by making an actual business from it you shouldn't have to worry. Most games played with friends are what's called "homebrew" aka made up on your own or inspired by something, not in DnD. My sister did one based off of The Legend of Zelda where all players were races in the series.

To make a good impression, have a good introduction of what the campaign looks like. Time, place, what events are happening at the current, backlore, then drop into one small pub or public area to bring everyone together and then develop the story.
