[Champion Concept] Narek, Conduit of the Arcane

Nikushimi Zero·10/4/2015, 7:35:53 PM·2 votes·863 views

TL;DR: This is a fleshed out champion to the best of my abilities. If you are just interested in his skill set then head on down halfway. Past his picture and stats/playstyle (btw, found via google images. Not mine. Credit to original creator.) and find where his passive starts.

Background Narek (Nah-rick) was a boy born with immense magical energy. In the land of his birth he was seen as a monster. His magic seen as a curse. Magic was seen as a vile thing in this land. To be feared. Those with magic were chained and controlled. Forced to servitude. His father and mother, both ex military, went into hiding with him. To protect him. The nearby town was friends with his parents, and so they helped to protect them. Or so the family believed.

As he grew so did his magic, and with time he was able to control it. Every once in a while though something happened. His magic grew out of control. His parents did their best to help him along, but in the end it was for him to control it. Neither of them knew magic. Finally, the accidents stopped, and his other training began.

His parents feared for his safety and soon began to train him. His father in the art of combat and martial arts. Wielding a sword, and then two. His mother taught him subtler arts and similar, but deadlier martial arts. He soon mastered these over the course of his teen years. It was upon his 16th birthday that a traveler happened by. A scholar who discovered his powers, and explained what he was. A conduit. One that could draw on an infinite amount of magical energy. An arcane well of knowledge and power. That was what the conduit drew from. Only one ever existed at a given time, and thought to be extinct. Now, here he was. The first one in over several thousand years.

Peace reigned over their lives. Until one day the towns mill exploded, the grains caught fire, the wells dried up, and fires spread across the town. The villagers were angry. They blamed the boy. They claimed they had thought his powers in control, and marched upon his parents house in the forest by the cliffs over the ocean. They demanded he atone for his crimes. His parents refused. Exactly as planned. The smile across the scholars face widened as he watched from the distance.

I watched as I returned from my meditation. The villagers surrounding my house. My parents screams. Everything seemed so surreal. What happened? I ran towards the house, but was stopped short by the mob of villagers. I see my parents bodies hanging from the houses rafters. Even skilled as they are they wouldn't lift a finger against the townspeople. They were good people, my parents. They should have fought! They wouldn't have died! The ropes being tied around me was but a faint memory. The hot iron being pressed into my skin on the iron slab. The knives razor edge as it cut through my flesh. The anger and outrage of the villagers from believing my family betrayed them. Their rantings about me destroying their town. I did none of these things. Then, the words that woke me out of this stupor came.

"Conduit? Heh, nothing but a weakling. We should have killed you ages ago, just like your parents. Then this wouldn't have happened. You think you're special with your magic! You think we cared? We hated you. Your parents though. They wouldn't let us touch you. This was the final straw. For all their threats, they didn't lift a finger. Kept begging us to spare you. Pathetic."

Just like that something inside of me snapped. My mind went blank and I began to laugh. The chains which replaced the ropes began to grow orange, and then red, finally, white. They exploded outwards and pierced the flesh of those around me. My eyes glowing with immense magical energy. Swords appeared in my hands, shaped by magic.

"Weak? You want to see my power? I shall show you my power. Destroy your town? I did not, but now....I will destroy what's left."

The screams and blood that spilled was nothing but an annoying buzz. By the end of it I saw the devastation, and saw him. The scholar. Clapping, "Brilliant. BRILLIANT! All these years of searching! Come....come! This world hates you! Hates magic!" He turned after beckoning me, his whispers reaching my ears "Just as planned." The swords through his chest before I could blink.

"You....you did this. Only you knew of me being a "conduit". For what end? My life...in ruins. These people....dead. You played our lives. You shall join them and atone to them in the afterlife." My voice colder than I thought possible. His lifeless body falling to the floor. What have I done?

The waves lapped at the rocks below. The town before me in ashes. Burned by me. By the scholar. The weaves of my magic now in place over the town and my home I snap my fingers. A large spherical explosion follows behind me. Leaving nothing but a crater. The blast from it knocking me into the waves. Cool. Calm. My eyes seeing far off. Then, nothing.

The air hit my lungs. My eyes open to the sun. Blinding. A face. Beautiful. I had thought I said it in my head, but the sound came from my lips. A smile. Even more beautiful. My head cradled in a lap, hands on my cheek. Inside a seaside cave within a cove.

"I'm glad you're alive. You washed up here days ago. I have been making sure you're alright." It was then that I noticed the horn, and different hue of skin. "My name is Soraka. What is yours?"

"Narek." I said, still gazing upon her and gaining my bearings. Was I alive? Was this a second chance? I owed her my life, and I would see it repaid. Even if it took me the rest of it.

"Welcome to Ionia." She said, and smiled.

The image used is not my own, and was found via google. This is a rough estimation on what my champion concept looks like. More details below in appearance. All rights for the original picture go to the original artist. I am only using it as a reference. Thank you.

Appearance https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/Y5tIXxCWokAqNKzUyznFXqyVhZb2_dJ-DiHvINm8BJJ4m8e47lNsqErSMwcxtVc3WWABneMx0GP3q2IcIjhw4EgTVwqbUbogE74_azsgwaFwxlTJeTN5_5ltQI1jwiFb4UNwqM0 Narek in appearance is much like this. The difference being his hair and the color of his outfit. It is best to note that the look of his face is during the time of his breaking in his homeland. His appearance is much more friendly and light than this. Think of Garen in terms of friendliness mixed with a bit of Varus for his solemness.

His hair is longer and spiky/messy (Think Kingdom Hearts Riku, but Axel shade of red, slightly darker). His eyes natural color are gold and they glow blue much like the picture above. The color of his outfit differs from the picture and goes like this: The blue of his cloak and armor is black. The lighter blue on his chest is red and the silver parts of his armor are still silver.

Personality If you've ever played Final Fantasy 7, then you should know Cloud. Whether you like Cloud or not isn't important. It's how Cloud is. That is how Narek is. Narek is silent, protective, and strong. He protects those he cares for and loves (as a friend, or closer than a friend). In this case it is Soraka who saved his life when he washed up on foreign shores, and continued to aid him in his recovery. For this and many other reasons he protects her as a silent guardian and good friend. He sees in her a kindness that has never been shown to him or his family. Something he is not used to, and yet is happy with. He holds great resentment for the villagers who proved that their smiling faces were hiding nothing but hate for him and his family. He speaks with confidence and arrogance, but not like Draven. He is not conceited or egotistical in any way. He is simply confident in his power.

He travels with Soraka. Acting as her guardian and protector. He owes her his life, a debt he knows cannot be paid easily. What she thinks of him I am unsure of (since that would be for others to decide. Not myself). However I would like to think she sees in him a good friend, and someone with a troubled past who she hopes to help and get to know as they travel together. Wherever that may lead.

Weapons Two curved swords made from his arcane energy around his hands. Blue in color (much like the color in the picture above for his appearance). He fights with speed and agility. Striking fluidly in a dancing motion. The look of the blades is that of the Chinese Dao.

Stats Health: 530-1970 Health Regen: 6-19 Mana: 370-1030 Mana Regen: 5-17 Armor: 25-87 Magic Resist: 32.1-53.4 Attack Damage: 61-113 Attack Speed: 0.657-1.01 Melee: 150 Movement Speed: 350 Primary Role: Assassin/Mage Secondary Role: Fighter/Mage

Playstyle Narek is a Hybrid Champion using AD and AP for his attacks. He uses his skills to move around the field of battle and attack priority champions as well as provide some support and a decent AoE in a Team Fight. He isn't the strongest in terms of defense and attack, but makes up for it with his ability to move around almost undetected.

Narek's playstyle differs depending on the team comp. As a support he should focus on his E and using his passive to stay hidden from the enemy. A supporter from the shadows. Using items that help his ally and improve the chances of them survive as well as other useful items such as CDR, Mana regen, AoE stat increase (Solari, or whatever it is called. I forget), etc.

As an assassin he should focus on attack speed and critical hits. Improving his W first and Q second. His W is used to deal the fatal blow to his target while Q is used to get close.

As a pure AP player focusing on attack speed and AP is good as it will allow monetizing of his passive. Allowing to keep his mana up while hitting with his abilities. As an AP player support, E, as usual, is the best option. Otherwise focus on Q and W evenly.

AD players should focus on Q and W as usual, but instead of attack speed they should focus more on sustain and tank items as their AD doesn't get much use on the abilities and getting in close with little to no damage on abilities can hurt.

As an all around champion he should focus on what the team needs, or what they are comfortable with. Focus on decent Health, Mana, and Mana regen items along with Rageblade, Nashors, and Bloodthirst/item of choice for sustain and damage. Other than that it is players decision on the route to go.

Note Icons used below for the skills are rough estimates on what the actual skill icons would look like. So, please use them as reference as you use your imagination for the rest. ^_^

Passive http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/13/icons_12614_btn.jpg Arcane Drive and Assimilation Each basic attack grants a charge of 5. Up to a max of 50 charges. Every 10 charges adds 5% of his Attack Damage as bonus Magic Damage and gains 2% to his attack speed. At max charges he gains a thin blue aura and his attacks grant an AoE effect within 250 units of target that deals 10/15/20/25% AP worth of damage (Starts at lvl 1, and then afterwords it ranks up with his ultimate rank). The magic damage done this way replenishes his mana for half the amount.

After being out of combat for 5s this effect begins to decay every second. Resets upon death.

Additionally, whenever he enters the brush/bushes he becomes instantly stealthed and cannot be seen except by true sight. Upon leaving the brush/bushes he remains stealthed for 3/4/5s (starts at lvl1, and ranks up at 7 and 15). Upon re-entering the brush/bushes this timer is removed until he leaves again. This is him becoming one with the surrounding magic of the wildlife and nature.

Q http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/7/icons_6864_btn.jpg Cross Edge For the next 5s the cursor turns into an adjustable skillshot with a max range of 400. Each time this is clicked Narek dashes along this path. This dash is shown by a flash of blue as he turns into a magical form of himself and a vertical corkscrew with his swords held out like Tonfa's before him. The initial dash takes 0.5s of windup as he briefly crouches. The rest of the dashes are instantaneous.

As he dashes he goes through enemies. Each time he deals 10/20/30/40/50 (+5% AD)(+5% AP) worth of damage. For damage type this is split right down the middle. Half of the damage doing physical, and the other half doing magical damage. Each time he hits an enemy with this move he has a 5/7/10/13/15% chance to replenish his mana for the amount of damage done. Each additional dash costs mana, but at a reduced cost. The number of times he can dash depends on clicking speed, time limit, and CC. Damage depends on these things as well.

This can be canceled by activating it again.

Initial Cost 50/55/60/65/70 Cost after Initial: 5/10/15/20/25 Cooldown: 15/13.5/12/11.5/10s

Note: This is his main mobility skill as an assassin/fighter. This allows him to move quickly and fluidly while bringing his deadly skills he learned from his mother and father along for the ride. If anyone knows Kingdoms of Amalur, this looks like the Faeblade charge attack, but with swords and subsequent dashes instant instead of charging up. This allows him to chase fleeing enemies or engage in a team fight or gank. However, can leave him open to getting trapped.

W http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/17/icons_16563_btn.jpg Predator's Grip This move is a deadly martial arts technique taught to him by his mother. He inhanced it with his magic. The move is a swift lunge at an opponent to stagger them, and then a jumping flip to a dive that tears at the enemies vitals.

Narek sends out a short burst of magic energy in target 300 unit direction. The first enemy hit by this is staggered/stunned by this as they are grabbed by this magic. At the same time this hits the enemy, Narek pulls himself towards the enemy with the magic and strikes them once for 10/30/50/70/90 (+10% AD)(+10% AP). After hitting the enemy he jumps up, creates his swords with his magic, and slams down with them upon the enemy dealing 20/40/60/80/100 (+30% AD)(+30% AP). The initial dash happens instantly upon hitting an enemy. The flip takes about 0.2s to pull off. It isn't a long ability animation, and the damage this deals is physical.

Upon slamming down his blades release a magical force that protrudes from the opposite side of the enemy from him. This magic force creates a 1000 unit pointed line that damages all it hits for 30/50/70/90/110 (+60% AP). The speed of this line is the same as Aatrox's E, as well as the range of it. This part of the ability deals magic damage. This damage is NOT calculated on the target.

Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Cooldown: 16/14/12/10/8s

Note: This is his primary engage and damage ability besides his ult. It is also his poke. It is unique in that it deals both physical (first and second attack) and magical (the poke). The target is dealt physical damage, while the enemies behind target from where Narek came are damaged for magic. This allows for hitting magic weak targets, or physically weak targets. It takes positioning to do right. The short range allows for a lot of people to dodge it or stay away from it. A Q->E combo is a good setup.

E http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/8/icons_7153_btn.jpg Arcane Freedom Passive: Silences and stuns are reduced by 15/25/35/45/55% effectiveness/duration.

Active: Upon activation a cast radius of 400 appears around Narek. The cursor turns into an intricate circle 500 unit radius skill shot. Activating the skill shot has Narek cast for 0.5s before creating a magical field that persists for 1/1.5/2/2.5/3s. Upon initiation all allies within are freed of all CC. Remaining in the area increases mana regeneration by 100/125/150/175/200%, and every 0.5s heals allies for 5/10/15/20/25% of their AP.

Cost: 80/85/90/95/100 Cooldown: 30/28/25/22/20s

Note: This ability is meant as a boon for magic users since the major effects of it benefit them more. This is due to him drawing upon his well of arcane energy and knowledge. Allowing them to absorb the effects for a short time. This ability can also be cast when silenced as long as it is off of cooldown. This is due to the nature of the spell. It needs no words to actually be cast, and since he has infinite, and constant, magic energy and knowledge flowing through him it cannot be stopped. Stuns however do stop this from being cast.

R http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/resource_images/19/icons_18027_btn.jpg Annihilation Description: Narek is surrounded by a shield of magic upon activation and levitates upon magic. Within a 1000 unit cast range Narek summons a 700 unit radius circle with an intricate design to it. Many lines interconnecting, and all of them filling in a knot in the center of the circle. Once the knot is complete, the circle triggers. This causes a giant explosion of magic energy damaging enemies within. Enemies within 100 units of the outer edge of the explosions radius are not damaged, but are knocked back 100 units.

Damages and effects: Upon activation Narek is granted a shield worth 30/40/50% of his AP as he begins casting. All magical damage against him is reduced by 20/25/30%. This shield blocks all Displacement and stun attempts, but does not block silences. Upon breaking this shield the current cast time is increased by half. For example. If he is 50% done casting this and the shield breaks, it is decreased to 25% done. So it pretty much sets back the casting time. After the shield breaks (which is shown by an animation) all displacements and stuns now work on him.

Upon completion of the spell a giant arcane explosion of blues and purples extend out and up from the entire circle, the middle being the highest looking. All enemies within the circle are damaged for 200/350/500 (+100% AP). Max damage at 600 AP: 800/950/1100. This is before Magic Resist.

Counters: Breaking his shield and hitting him with a displacement or stun. Silences also work on him, even with the shield up. The spell making is seen by all, except when he is in the brush. If he is in the brush, then this ability is invisible to the enemy unless they have sight on him. This allows the enemy to be able to see and predict the ability to avoid it. It has a pretty decent cast time (as long as Nunu's) so this gives ample time to focus and attack him to break his shield, silence him, or avoid the attack (if he isn't in the brush, cause it can't be seen then). There are several counters to this ability. It is strong, but counterable.

Cost: 100/110/120 Cast Time: 3s Cooldown: 110/100/90s

Note: This IS a powerful ability. It is a weaker version than the one used in his lore so as to make it not as powerful (if it was, it could kill anyone and be an almost instant cast). So, this is, to put it bluntly, his most powerful and deadly ability. Therefore, above I made note of certain counters to counter it. I made this note just to explain there are counters and to explain that this is his most powerful ability. Useful for crowd control, and AoE damage in a team fight.

Quotes "I...deep breath in and out am ready."-Selection quote

Attacking "My power knows no bounds!" "Come at me!" "Graceful....and Deadly."-During Predator's Grip. "Knowledge is free for all who seek it."-Upon Arcane Freedom. "Annihilation."-Upon the completion of Annihilation. Grim voice, his normal one turning into one much like Varus's. "Are you alright Soraka?"-Upon using Arcane Freedom with Soraka in its radius. Concerned voice. "Taste the blades of my power!" "I am not a monster!" "Fear my magic!" "Come back here."-Upon activation of Q. "Can't run from me."-Upon activation of Q. "I move as I please."-Attacking from stealth, as well as when moving in stealth. "You wanted a monster, and now....you have one."-Upon a kill. Soraka, if Riot so chooses, is in the lane with him could have a counter to this and say "You are not a monster Narek." or something caring like that or something.

Moving "I move as I please."-Moving while in stealth, as well as when attacking from stealth. "Arcane flows freely." "While our allies are in danger, we stop. Why?"-While idle for a while. "Yep....just uh....standing here. It's uh...real fun. Yep."-While idle too long. If Soraka is near, and if Riot wants, she can either laugh at this or giggle. "So, the strategy is....standing here? Awesome. Pretend you're the bush. You are the bush."-While idle for a bit, and usually near or in a bush. "One with the arcane, I move unseen."-While stealthed. "I feel the flow of all things." "Just gonna....oh, shit. Nevermind."-While stealthed, but upon being revealed to the enemy. If shit doesn't work (Which I'm sure it doesn't cause you know, it's "swearing", but you can show almost naked women and men. Oh well. Not complaining. Just silly :P) then a simple "oh, crap" or "oh, damn." will suffice as a replacement. Emphasis when he says"nevermind". So it's more like "Neeeeeevermind."

Recalling "Just going to....umm, I got some...stuff, to do. You know. Things." "I'll be back Soraka."-While in lane with Soraka. "Don't worry friend. I'll be right back."-While in lane with a "good" aligned character. Referring to friends of Soraka as well as Karma, Yi, Garen, Ryze, Varus, Amumu, etc.

Dying "Well...damn." "I know you did your best Soraka."-If a Soraka is near him. "You know I'll be back right?" And sometimes he makes mention of the time he has remaining or upon death. Something like "30 seconds? Seriously? Well damn. Might as well play solitaire." and "Tick tock the clock goes. 3. 2. 1. Let's go!" Counting down to being released to the field from death. Etc.

Interactions "I owe you my life. A debt I can never repay."-To a Soraka close to him or in lane with him while they are both idle, or moving around together. "This scenery....reminds me of home. As much of a home that my parents could make for me."-In response while roaming the Rift. "We had a hollow like this where I'm from. Everyone was scared of some "witch" or something living there. Real nice lady. She gave me sweets."-While in Twisted Treeline. "You proclaim yourself powerful, but it is raw and finite. You know nothing of control and the infinite well of which I was born to."-To Syndra whether an enemy or ally. While he says this he is idle and surges with magical energy, floating into the air as he does. "Mangy mutt. How dare you show your face to me."-To Warwick. He knows about his betrayal and leading on of Soraka. He isn't happy about it. Now, if Riot wants and a Soraka is present she can either respond with comforting/calming words to Narek, or a slight "smile" sound. If that makes sense. "Powerful? Yes. Lack of control though, you have. Nothing but fancy tricks. Raw. Childs play."-To an enemy Syndra in lane with him as a taunt. During this he shows a demonstration of his magic. Infinite and more powerful than hers, but controlled. "You let yourself succumb to the power you wield. Pathetic."-Taunt to an enemy Syndra. "You lusted for a better version of yourself. Your greed was your downfall. This cursed form....is your true self."-Taunt to an enemy Warwick with a voice of hatred and loathing.

Friends Soraka and Karma. Enemies Warwick, Syndra, and Karthus. Potential Friends Amumu, Yi, Varus, Sona, and Lucian.

Explanation Soraka is by far his closest friend as she saved his life when he washed up on the shores of Ionia (or of course, where she was. I simply put Ionia cause that is her place of origin and the place she identifies with according to the wiki). She helped him understand this world and showed him he wasn't exactly the monster he things, but he still believes he is.

Karma is a friend because I see it is that, just like Soraka, she doesn't see him as a monster and welcomed him to Ionia.

Warwick. This one should be obvious. How he betrayed Soraka and hurt her does not sit well with Narek.

Karthus is an enemy as it is one of Soraka's and her enemies are his.

Syndra because of how she uses her magic for evil. She has immense power, not infinite like him, but a large amount. He does not appreciate with how she uses her gifts, and how she allowed the power she wielded to blind her to control of it rather than it control her. Killing her teacher for trying to teach her control he sees as pathetic. One of a savage. Nothing more. She, I would like to believe, does not like that his power far exceeds hers when it comes to the amount of power he can draw on (since he is more a melee champ I had to dumb down the actual amount of power he has with magic), and she is jealous of his gifts of infinite knowledge and power of magic and the arcane.

The potential friends are there for the fact that he kind of relates to them in a way. Should he ever meet them he would be friends. Amumu for his isolation by the world. He knows this all too well. Yi for his skill and serenity. Varus for his want of vengeance. Sona sorta the same as Amumu. Lucian for their mutual loss of family and their want of eradicating the forces which do this to others.

Potential Builds Hybrid: item 3124 item 3151 item 3087 item 3115 item 3072 item 3027 Mage: item 3027 item 3089 item 3115 item 3151 item 3001 item 3135 Support: item 3050 item 3190 item 3152 item 3174 item 3060 item 3027 Fighter: item 3027 item 3072 item 3087 item 3031 item 3115 item 3156 Assassin: item 3046 item 3124 item 3087 item 3091 item 3072 item 3035 Others: Others are those you can also choose to replace any of the others. Very nice, an aggressive hybrid character with buttloads of movement. Spam Q to get into their ranks, then ult.
