[Champion Concept] Haize, The Will of Smoke (High-utility Mage/Support with unique mechanics)

There are have been many deaths attributed to fire, but in most cases what actually kills people is smoke. I'd like to introduce my champion concept for Haize, the Will of Smoke (Name WIP)

In fact, bear in mind that all my ideas are work-in-progress. Anything can be changed, to any degree. Also, for those too lazy to read, skip to the end for a summary

Lore: Shrouded in mystery, there's not much known about the Will of Smoke. It's suspected he has some relation to Brand, similar in the fact that his body is just a victim that has been captured by his soul.

Abilities:

  • Passive: Smoke-out - Haize's abilities and basic attacks mark the enemy with the Smoked-Out debuff, leaving a trail of smoke behind for an extended duration, allowing you to track stealthed targets. This mark can stack, increasing the duration of the effect.
  • Q: Smoke Stream - Haize channels a stream of thick smoke at the target champion, blinding them and causing damage over the duration. Haize is immobile during channeling, if the target moves too far away from Haize the effect ends.
  • W: Smoke Bomb - Haize creates a cloud of suffocating smoke at target location. Enemies within the cloud take damage over time and are silenced.
  • ** E: Smoke Curtain** (Smoke Screen was taken by Graves) - Haize creates a wall of smoke at target location. The wall is passable by units but denies vision to enemy units behind it.
  • R: Smoke Form - (Toggle) Haize's body becomes smoke itself, becoming untargetable, moving through units, and gaining a boost in movement speed but unable to perform actions and draining mana while enabled.

Items: Abilities scale with AP, build pure AP items for a powerful mage that prevents enemies from retaliating. For support, spell-thiefs is great because you can earn tons of money with a single Q, while the upgrade will compensate for your lack of movement CC. Rylai's is good for the same reason, letting you slow/blind/silence an enemy all at once.

Appearance: Haize's body has wisps of black smoke that dance around his body. He appears to have no legs, just a shroud of smoke extending to the ground from his waist. When Haize exhales, puffs of smoke rise from his nose and mouth. Haize has no weapon, instead he fires all his spells/basic attacks from his mouth (including the channel, which looks really cool). Has a smokey voice (duh), gravely and soft, like a cross between Graves and Nocturne.

Advanced Tactics:

  1. Use Haize's Smoke Bomb and Smoke Stream together to effectively prevent the target from dealing damage while your allied champions assist in the kill.
  2. Be mindful that your Smoke Curtain only blocks enemy vision into the fog of war. If an enemy unit or ward is on the same side of the wall as you, the enemy will still have vision of you. Best used in the jungle/river or between your allies and enemy creeps.
  3. Enemies will try to track you through your Smoke Curtain with wards. Vision wards and sweeping lens are a highly valuable counter.
  4. Use Haize's ultimate to reposition during teamfights so you can silence the enemy AP champions and blind the enemy carry. Be aware that your ultimate doesn't cleanse crowd control effects and can't be used while snared/stunned.
  5. Haize's Smoke Curtain has amazing juke potential. Remember that it will block vision on either side of the wall. Use this if there's a single enemy chasing you; drop your Smoke Screen, then when the enemy moves through it, move back to the other side. You can do this multiple times for some hilariously frustrated enemies.

Emotes: There's so much potential here. Jokes about smoking substances, taunts where he flatulates smoke, etc. Let me know what you guys come up with.

TL; DR

  • Badass smoke spirit!
  • Passive lets you Hunt Rengars. Kha'Zix's rejoice
  • AoE silence (my favorite idea, the only thing I really want in this champion)
  • Channeled blind - show Teemo how it feels
  • Built in Zhonya's that lets you move!
  • Anivia wall that anyone can move through but they can't see through.
  • SMOKING KILLS

His release skin would have to be a snoop dog skin with a re-voice of snoop saying "smoke" every time he does anything opposed to normal voice clips. His ult would then be smoke weed every day. the smoke would also be greenish, and at 4:20 using this skin he gains 10 movement speed for one second (kinda like commando skins taking less damage from sun related abilities). Tell me this wouldn't be amazing

Interesting kit idea. Except for being an AP nuker he only has 2 damage abilities...

Something I think that you should think about is whether or not you want his passive to REVEAL stealth or just leave a smoking trail on the stealthed enemy. An example would be say if haize is supporting but in champ select you choose him to counter the enemy adc because he chose twitch. So if haize's passive revealed twitch from stealth then there's no point for him to ever press q. That in itself is a big no no to riot. BUT if say that the passive did NOT reveal but left the Smokey trail that would open up counter play as twitch would still be able to not be targeted by AA buuut you could still have an indicator as to where your adv can place skillshots! Now there's still counter play on both sides because the way I'm visually seeing the smoke trail is sort of like nocturnes q except maybe a little skinnier so it doesn't distract too much but to where there's still the ambiguity of not knowing where he could go next. I think riot should have a champ or two more like braum where the utility is the core focus and can set your team up for success but also to where they don't have the lulu effect! Hope you like my feedback! And I know its just about the passive because I already think the other spells are in a good spot!

The damages would need to be kept pretty low, I think. And scale poorly. I really like the idea of the ultimate, but putting that on someone who can kill if itemized right would be extremely dangerous.

I also think you may be under-estimating how powerful Blind is and why it was phased out of a lot of kits. I think it might be a neat idea to make a support that's focused around using blind as their main defensive tool - but it comes at a really frustrating price. Perhaps instead of actual Blind, he could apply his own debuff that gives them a % chance to miss? Instead of a 100% chance? Sort of like how Chilled is unique to Anivia and slows AS and MS.

I'm also kind of worried about the wall. Not from a strength perspective but from a code one. How does the wall work? Does it still allow ally vision to those on either side? If you're on one side and you're ally is on the other can you both see both sides? Graves' debuff works on champions in the AoE - so it's easy to know when and who is denied vision. But for this, it's a little more ambiguous.
