Kog'Maw Champion Update (that won't get reverted)
Just an idea I had for an update/mini-rework for Kog'Maw; Since his latest rework was reverted, he definitely warrants one. Especially considering how imbalanced he is in the current patch, given his absurdly high win-rates across all ELOs*
The idea of this mini-rework is to emphasize his "Artillery" theme by giving him the ability to attack at longer ranges at a slower speed. This would be done simply by introducing a new passive - either innate, or on one of his abilities - that gives his basic attacks a new unique charge mechanic. Here's an example of how this passive could work;
PASSIVE: PROJECTILE EXPLUSION (name WIP) > Kog'Maw passively builds charge while not attacking. This charge increases the maximum range of his next basic attack, up to a set limit. All charge is consumed when Kog'Maw uses a basic attack. The rate at which Kog'Maw gains charge scales with attack speed.
So, basically, Kog'Maw gets some extra range the longer he waits in-between auto-attacks. This effectively gives Kog'Maw extended basic attack range, at the cost of attack speed (the longer the range, the longer the delay between attacks, thus the slower effective attack speed) while maintaining full attack speed at normal ranges.
Of course, the addition of this passive would need a subtraction of some kind to maintain game balance. The crudest way would be by nerfing his numbers (stats/damage/cooldowns), but I think that's the least interesting choice. Better solutions could include the removal of his bonus attack speed from Q passive (since it might extend his range too much, anyway) or the removal of his bonus range from W (since he already gets bonus range from the new passive). You _could _ even change his W to increase the charge rate, allowing Kog'Maw to better utilize the passive and give him a window of power where he could attack at range with a much lesser penalty.
This change would be simple but could potentially lead to some very interesting interactions, and dramatically affect his playstyle. If you agree, upvote the thread to make it more visible to Riot, and if you have any suggestions or feedback I'd be happy to hear them, so leave a comment!
A NOTE ON "NUMBERS" You might notice I didn't mention ANY numbers in my suggestion - range, charge rate, max charge, % attack speed scaling, level scaling, etc. This was intentional. The point of this thread is to develop the concept, balance and numbers come at a later stage in development. These also require actual data from actual playtesting, so please refrain from nit-picking numbers. You can't possibly know the exact amounts that would be required for this to be "perfectly balanced" without actually implementing, testing, and using feedback from in-game testing.
Also, don't focus on me saying Kog'Maw is imbalanced. That's not the point; it's to make Kog'Maw a more unique and interesting champion to play, in the simplest way possible. Balance changes depending on patch, player skill, meta, etc, so it's a transient topic that's not really relevant to this thread.
