Champion Type

Fighter/Tank (Juggernaut subclass)

Champion Concept

A different spin on the juggernaut class. Xifeng isn't particular large or imposing like others of her class, but rather she presents a strong front for her team through her sheer refusal to be forced down. She ramps up slowly in combat, but once she's heated up she's a force to be reckoned with. Her true power begins to show as she's backed into a corner, and her full might will only reveal itself when pushed to the edge of death.

Xifeng's greatest weakness is being taken down quickly in a fight. She's also somewhat on the immobile side, a trait common in her class, and she has difficulty getting through enemy front lines to reach their carries. Instead, she should focus on breaking through them rather than slipping through.

Lore

Gender: Female Race: Human Birthplace: A small Ionian village, Ionia Residence: An Ionian town not far from the Placidium Occupation: Political revolutionary Faction: Ionia

A stubborn young woman who practices a form of martial arts taught within her family that focuses pure will into strength through magic. Xifeng spent her life watching both the good and bad in her homeland. Unable to find her balance in Ionia, she searched for it in a foreign land instead. After seeing Piltover's adherence toward looking to progress and the future, she returned to her homeland to try and instill the same virtues in it. Officially, she's a fugitive and a rabble-rouser, but some in the country, especially the youth, see her as a guiding light that Ionia needs to move forward in the world.

Friends: Irelia, Wukong, Ezreal Allies: Jayce, Soraka Rivals: Irelia, Zed, Syndra Enemies: Karma, Jhin

The daughter of a reclusive martial artist living in a secluded Ionian mountain village, Xifeng spent her earliest days absorbing all that her father could teach her. In her family was taught a style of combat that involved meditation and magical focus to channel pure willpower from the user into physical strength. Xifeng heard from her father that some of her ancestors had the strength to fight on and recover after being mortally wounded or fight entire divisions of armed and armored soldiers with nothing but their bare hands. Xifeng learned well her father's fighting style and mental focus, but what her young self lacked was discipline and restraint. Proud of her heritage, Xifeng was quick to challenge other kids in her village to fighting just to show off what she and her family could achieve.

When the war with Noxus drew closer to his home, Xifeng's father left to help repel the invaders, but he never returned. As the years passed and Xifeng grew to adulthood, she never stopped believing in her heart that her father was still out there, and she was resolved to find him so she could complete her training. Once she was old enough to travel on her own, Xifeng wandered Ionia looking for her father, but all that she really found were the remnants of recent injustices from her home. She walked beneath the shadow of Syndra's floating castle and heard rumors of her past, she passed (quickly) near the edge of the Order of the Shadows' territory and learned of what its master had done to his adopted father, there were times as she walked in the forests that she felt the breeze pass and she remembered the stories of the hasty judgement of Yasuo, and she heard whispers of the mad artist Jhin having been set free on Ionia once again.

Her father was nowhere to be found, and Xifeng's wanderings became more and more languid. She occasionally had to defend herself from wild animals or criminals in the wilderness, and while she still had her love of fighting, she could only fight for its own sake. Having finally given up on ever finding her father or reclaiming her past, she decided to simply forego it and find herself a new course in life. As her path took her to the seashore, Xifeng could only look out over the waves and reflect ironically that she'd never be able to find her center in a land that favored balance above all else.

She'd leave Ionia and look for her path in a foreign land.

She had intended at first to travel to Demacia and experience the honor and valor that they so proudly boasted, but she took the wrong ship by accident and wound up in Piltover instead. The country girl from Ionia stood out like a sore thumb and drew stares from those around her, but she could only gawk at the soaring buildings that surrounded her. Feeling the thrill of a new discovery for the first time in as far as she could remember, Xifeng decided to spend some time in this country.

Xifeng got by selling her skills to those looking for a strong arm to protect themselves or their property as she indulged herself in Piltover's culture and ideology. For a time she was too swept up in her surroundings to think of her home, but as time passed, her thoughts drifted more and more to Ionia. In Piltover people thought little of the past or even much of the present, they looked to the horizon. There was no stagnation that crippled advances, no over-adherance to tradition that denied progress. Grinning ear to ear, Xifeng decided at last what she could do with herself.

At her first opportunity, she returned to her homeland, and began speaking fervently to those that would hear her. She wasn't alone in her thoughts, and the dissatisfied people of Ionia merely needed something to guide them, just as Piltover had guided her. She and her followers traveled through smaller villages, gathering like-minded people, until finally their ranks grew enough that the elders took notice of them. When rumors reached Xifeng that she had been branded a disturber of the peace, she simply smiled wide.

Ionia wouldn't lose what made it what it was, but she would see the concerns of herself and those that followed her heard. Ionia would begin to move forward in the world.

Unscarred

Before her stood a regiment of Ionian soldiers, all standing calmly with their spears held at their sides. Behind her stood a mob, an unarmed group of Ionian villagers that she guessed were the rough equal in number to the soldiers arrayed against her. But they were far from an equal in gear. Most of them had only the clothes on their back, their belongings left behind with the rest of their organization at the village in which Xifeng and her followers were currently staging their little revolution.

Xifeng stood at the head of her followers, arms crossed, and at her side was her rather slight personal assistant, Sakura.

"Better hope we don't start a fight this time," Xifeng muttered quietly.

"I told you this wasn't a good idea," whispered Sakura.

Shrugging, Xifeng looked back over her shoulder. "Hey everyone, it's time that you do as I say and not as I do again!" she cried.

Scattered laughter broke out amongst her followers.

"As usual, if I start a fight the rest of you are to scatter back to the agreed location!" she called out, a little more loudly.

Firm agreement rang out.

Laughing humorlessly, she stepped forward. They'd learned a while ago not to follow her into fights with soldiers too readily. The ones she'd brought with her for her demonstration were some of the people who'd been with her the longest.

Xifeng turned her attention forward, to the stairs that lay behind the soldiers. She couldn't help but wince at the sight of them rising upward to the gates of the Placidium, at the top of which stood Irelia.

"Hey captain!" Xifeng called out. "So I rate your attention this time, huh?"

Xifeng couldn't see at her distance, but she liked to imagine that Irelia frowned at her. She said nothing either way. Then Irelia stepped to the side, and from behind her came Karma. Her smile faltering, Xifeng took a few steps closer, causing the soldiers to suddenly leap to attention.

"Send your people home, Xifeng, this can only end badly," Karma said loudly but calmly.

"Duchess," Xifeng began, sinking into a mock bow, "why not come down and hear the concerns of your people?"

"I've already heard what you want, Xifeng, and they're things that I work day and night already to achieve," Karma said, her voice even.

"Oh?" asked Xifeng. "Then is Jhin already back where he belongs? Are we now assured we won't be invaded by another foreign power?"

"Progress can't be made in a day."

Xifeng growled. "It can't be made at all when we're too concerned with preserving all of our traditions!" she cried.

"We cannot simply abolish our history in the name of securing our place in the world," Karma said, still apparently calm.

Xifeng groaned loudly and glared up. How was she so damn peaceful in that situation? "I've come today to inform the elders of Ionia that my movement just gained its thousandth follower this month. We're not just an angry mob, and we're here to ask for recognition from the Ionian government so that our concerns can be voiced."

"Turn your followers back home, Xifeng," Karma said. With that, she turned and began walking away.

Cursing loudly, Xifeng dashed forward. The soldiers reacted too late, and she burst through them before they could properly array against her. She leaped onto the steps and began to climb. "If you won't come down then I'll just come up!" she screamed as she took the steps two at a time. As she finally crested the staircase, Irelia's blade flew forward to bar her path. Xifeng darted to the side, tucked into a roll, and regained her footing.

Across from her, in her way, was Irelia herself, her expression neutral. So she was going to fight Irelia herself? The legendary warrior who fought from the jaws of death and became stronger for it? She couldn't help but smile wide, her heart pounding.

"This won't help anybody," she said firmly.

"Maybe not," Xifeng said, "but I'm not one to back down from a challenge."

Unable to help herself, she charged in.

That night she walked back into her camp, her head held high. Her followers surrounded her, congratulating her on challenging the Will of Blades and living to tell the tale. When they asked why her dress was soaked red she simply told them that Irelia didn't let her go easily. When they clapped her on the back she winced, her eyes blurring. When she finally got into her own tent and closed the flap behind her, she immediately fell to the ground.

"You don't need to act invulnerable around your friends."

"I'm glad you're here, Soraka," she said feebly.

The Starchild picked Xifeng up carefully and set her down on her bed.

"I can't turn a blind eye to suffering, even if I don't agree with what you're doing. And you have a habit of bringing a great deal of suffering on yourself almost every time you have your rallies."

Xifeng simply unrolled the bandages she'd taken to covering her arms with. She told the others that she felt they completed her look, but as her eyes fell on her heavily scarred arms, she was reminded of the truth. She took her dress off - long and concealing as always - and allowed Soraka to examine and heal the new injuries she'd accumulated in her fight.

"Irelia worked you over," Soraka said quietly.

"Well she certainly earned her reputation," said Xifeng. "I'm pretty sure I broke a few bones but against a fighter who doesn't need to actually carry their weapon that's not much help."

"Did you gain anything from what you did today? Aside from a few more scars that you'll have to hide so your followers don't realize you're mortal, that is."

"Oh I gained a lot," said Xifeng. As Soraka worked to close her injuries, she laid back, smiling to herself. "This time the Duchess and the captain of the guard came to deal with us. Whether they want to or not, that's admitting that we're worth attention. People are going to notice that."

"I'm not done yet," she said, her eyes closing from exhaustion. "No matter how my body looks, there isn't a wound or a scar on my spirit."

Appearance

Something similar in spirit to: http://static.zerochan.net/Ibaraki.Kasen.full.971504.jpg

A distinctly feminine bruiser with a penchant for dresses that can kick your ass despite her apparent petiteness.

Statistics

Health: 595.4 (+90) Health Regen: 8.52 (+0.8) Mana: 321.8 (+30) Mana Regen: 7.55 (+0.6) Melee: 125

Attack Damage: 59.34 (+3.5) Attack Speed: 0.658 (+2.5%) Armor: 26.8 (+3.5) Magic Resistance: 32.1 (+1.25) Movement Speed: 340

Abilities Innate - Rising Heart

Xifeng has a second resource know as Spirit. Xifeng generates 10 Spirit over 3 seconds every time she lands a basic attack or takes damage, and 5 Spirit every time she damages an enemy champion, up to a maximum of 100. Xifeng’s Spirit decays at a rate of 20 per second if she has not gained any in the last 8 seconds. The effectiveness of Xifeng’s self-healing increases by up to 30%, based on her Spirit

Design Concept

Spirit serves largely to gate Xifeng's damage and sustain, as both depend on her building it up before they hit their full power. Once at full Spirit she's ready to fight for real, but she's at her weakest while her second resource is empty.

Q - Explosive Focus

Cost: 30 Mana Cooldown: 8/7/6/5/4 seconds after third attack or buff expiration

Active: Xifeng’s next 3 basic attacks within 4 seconds each gain 50% attack speed and deal bonus physical damage. Each empowered attack against the same target will deal 1% more bonus damage per point of Spirit than the attack before it.

Explosive Focus resets Xifeng’s autoattack timer.

-Bonus physical damage per hit: 10/15/20/25/30 + (10% AD) -Minimum total bonus physical damage against a single target: 30/45/60/75/90 + (30% AD) -Maximum total bonus physical damage against a single target: 70/105/140/175/210 + (70% AD)

Design Concept

While planning Xifeng, I knew I wanted her to resolve her problems largely by hitting them, which meant she was an attacker. Rather than giving her a straight means to speed up her basic attacks, I decided instead to give her a way to hit rapidly within a small window. Xifeng's strongly encouraged to repeatedly hit the same target while Explosive Focus is active, as the individual hits are quite weak. As the window to actually deal these blows is very small, a good way to seriously cut into her damage is to briefly disengage from her once Explosive Focus has been activated

W - Spirit Inferno

Cost: 20/25/30/35/40 Mana + Spirit per second Cooldown: 5 seconds Range: 162.5

Toggle: Xifeng engulfs herself in a whirlwind of destructive will, consuming her Spirit to deal magic damage to enemies each second. Both the damage dealt and the Spirit consumed increases over the first five seconds.

-Initial Magic Damage per second: 10/13.75/17.5/21.25/25 + (10% AP) + 1/1.5/2/2.5/3% of the enemy's maximum health -Maximum Magic damage per second: 20/27.5/35/42.5/50 + (20% AP) + 2/3/4/5/6% of the enemy's maximum health -Initial Spirit cost per second: 5/7.5/10/12.5/15 -Maximum Spirit cost per second: 15/17.5/20/22.5/25

Design Concept

A simple ability meant to urge Xifeng to remain in the thick of enemy groups at all times. She'll burn through her Spirit and leave herself vulnerable very quickly if this ability is used carefully, but if she can hit two or even three enemy champion with the inferno at once, she can keep this ability up for a long while and deal a large amount of damage to enemies around her.

E - Spirit Surge

Cost: 50 mana + 5/6.25/7.5/8.75/10 Spirit Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 seconds Range: 1000

Active: Xifeng strikes the ground and infuses it with her will, causing a ripple to travel outward in the target direction. The first enemy damaged is slowed for 2 seconds and dealt physical damage, with all subsequent enemies taking half damage.

Spirit Surge refunds its Spirit cost if Xifeng slows an enemy champion with it.

-Physical damage: 80/125/170/215/260 + (120% Bonus AD) -Reduced physical damage: 40/62.5/85/107.5/130 + (60% Bonus AD) -Slow amount: 30/35/40/45/50%

Design Concept

A means for Xifeng to catch her enemies, Spirit Surge both allows Xifeng to close the distance on enemies while far away and also helps keep them within range once she actually begins battle if she can keep landing it at close range. Spirit Surges' is spammable, but carelessly abusing it will leave Xifeng without any Spirit, and a small amount of Spirit is needed to activate the ability in the first place. Enemies carries should hide behind their minions or their tougher allies, so that they can soak up both the increased initial damage and the slow that Spirit Surge carries.

R - The Heroine Rises

Cost: 100 Mana Cooldown: 120/105/90 seconds after buff expiration

Active: Xifeng generates a shield. While the shield holds, Xifeng's Spirit gain is more efficient based on her missing health on activation, her health will regenerate over time, consuming her shield in the process, and gaining Spirit will restore Xifeng's shield by a modified amount. Xifeng's shield cannot be restored above its original threshold, and will immediately break if she has not gained Spirit in the last 3 seconds. Xifeng's shield will hold indefinitely, assuming she can maintain it.

The Heroine Rises can be used even when afflicted by crowd control.

-Damage shielded: 200/350/500 + 15% maximum health -Increased Spirit gain per point of missing health: .5% -Maximum Spirit gain: 50% -Shield restored per Spirit gained: 2/3.5/5 + .15% maximum health -Shield consumed per half-second: 20/35/50 + 1.5% maximum health -Health gained per half-second: 15/26.25/37.5 + 1.25% maximum health

-The Spirit gain bonus provided by The Heroine Rises is determined on-cast and does not retroactively update as her health changes.

Design Concept

Xifeng's ultimate skill gives her a second wind in a dangerous situation, and encourages her to continue fighting even - or rather especially - when her back is against the wall. After Xifeng uses her ultimate she's strongly encouraged to keep fighting no matter how grim the situation, as staying in the fight will keep her shield up longer, both increasing her own healing and keeping herself alive. Popping your shield just for a quick heal is a very wasteful use of Xifeng's ultimate, as she doesn't gain a perfect shield to health ratio, and failing to gain Spirit will cause it to break immediately.

Finally, the fact that The Heroine Rises can be used while under crowd control ensures that Xifeng's player need not fear being locked down and killed before she can act should she be the first into the battlefield. After all, hesitating wouldn't be in her character :p

Strategy

General

Laning

During the laning phase, you mostly want to focus on farming while you raise your Spirit on enemy minions. Xifeng's ability to trade is very poor early on without Spirit, so focus on answering attempts by enemy laners to get in your face with a round of Explosive Focus and then peg them with Spirit Surge while you back off. Due to her reliance on Spirit, Xifeng's mana costs are fairly low, so she can afford to keep this up. Once Xifeng unlocks The Heroine Rises, her ability to win drawn out fights improves greatly, especially if enemies try to all-in her when she's still healthy and use up all their cooldowns without managing to kill her outright. When fighting a single enemy, focus on spamming Explosive Focus to wear them down, as Spirit Inferno is better used when surrounded by more than one enemy champion.

On that note, Xifeng is rather good at 2v2 and even 1v2 fights if both the jungler and her lane opponent are melee, as she can catch them both with Spirit Inferno and fuel The Heroine Rises much longer than she could by hitting only one enemy at a time. At rank one, Spirit Inferno repays its own Spirit cost if it damages two enemy champions at once.

Teamfighting

As is common for characters of her class, Xifeng simply wants to charge straight into the enemy team and focus on knocking heads. Don't try to slip through the enemy tanks to reach the carries, as drawn out fights against tanks gives Xifeng time to build up her Spirit from empty, and her mixed damage makes her somewhat difficult to build against. If the enemy carries haven't helped their tanks kill you by the time you've worn the tanks down, you should have a good amount of Spirit and be ready to run down the carries by hitting them with Spirit Surge a few times and knocking their faces in with Explosive Focus. If not, you can always hope that any divers of assassins on your team have done their part and chased down the carries for you.

Countering Xifeng

Xifeng's Spirit is crucial to unlocking her strength. At low Spirit she can't cast Spirit Inferno or Spirit Surge for long, and Explosive Focus deals little damage. While the classic anti-juggernaut strategy of "kite her and kill her at a distance" certainly works, there's a few specific ways to counteract her damage. Cutting off her third empowered attack will greatly reduce the damage of Explosive Focus, so anything that reduces her attack speed or puts her under crowd control just long enough for the third hit to expire will benefit you. Most of her damage comes from Explosive Focus and Spirit Inferno and both abilities work against one another, with Explosive Focus requiring Spirit to deal damage, and Spirit Inferno draining her Spirit. The best way to overcome Xifeng's blistering offense if you have to fight her up close is to armor up to reduce the power of Explosive Focus, and being prepared to disengage her briefly when Spirit Inferno is activated, as it will quickly burn through her Spirit if you don't give her a way to keep fighting.

When Xifeng's health gets low, be ready for The Heroine Rises to be activated. When it does, decide quickly what you're going to do. Characters that work through a war of attrition better be certain that their sustain will outmatch the sustain given to her by The Heroine Rises, and characters that burst had best be sure that their cooldowns aren't all used before they break her shield. Backing away from Xifeng is a good strategy, as The Heroine Rises only returns 75% of its shield as hp, and the shield will burn itself out in 5 seconds if she doesn't stay in a fight. The absolute worst decision you can make is to keep up the fight with her if your health sustain and burst damage are both on the lower end.

To outplay Spirit Surge melee champions should try to keep moving while fighting her, as a skillshot becomes difficult to land at point-blank if the target is moving, while ranged champions should try to hide behind minions or their more durable allies.

The effectiveness of Xifeng’s self-healing and self-shielding increases by up to 20%, based on her Spirit

Shouldn't she be rewarded for damaging enemy champions over minions?

Great concept, but for a juggernaut she is surprisingly mobile.

Hi! I'm dropping by for a review :D

Brief note: Xifeng transliterates out to West Wind in Chinese. I'm not sure what kind of allegory you're trying to make here beyond some kind of second wind?

Passive: It's quite effective for what it does, being able to make a mark for someone who wants to stick around for extended fights (particularly involving multiple people) and is gated carefully enough by limiting itself to self shielding and healing. The only thing I would suggest would be that the increases scale exponentially, similar to a reverse Warlord's Bloodlust so that you're more encouraged to stay in extended combat

Q: It's a good idea that encourages a single target focus, but it feels like it deviates somewhat from the general feel of the rest of the concept, which has veritable AoE. Nonetheless, it's effective at what it does (though I will admit that the best-case scenario is a very scary prospect). The main suggestion I would leave here would be to flatten out the cost to 40 overall because it's far too cheap early to keep in mind.

W: This ability can only be casted with spirit and will last only as long as the spirit does right? That's my main query on this ability.

R: Honestly it feels a bit underwhelming to me. Yes it's a shield that is very powerful in the right situations, but it also works against the W, in that you want to be low to make the best use of the shield, but you also get constant (and increased) healing from it. It somewhat solidifies her as a juggernaut who works best at low health, and is capable of thriving at that level, but it also brings up the concern to me that similar could be performed by another juggernaut who doesn't have to be at such a threshold to be equally capable.

Overall, I'm on the fence. It's an interesting design, but I feel that Xifeng lacks both counterplay and outplay potential. While it can be argued that there is counterplay to the Q and E (don't let her land consecutive strikes and stay out of range respectively) I feel it's more of an inherent flaw with the Juggernaut class (which I won't get into here) as well as the flaws that show up when taking into account gapcloser-less melee, mainly that they must be compensated for the prospect that they won't be able to get into melee in the first place resulting in overtuning as a result. Because of this, I'm not too much of a fan because you're either overwhelming when they have to fight you in such conditions, but largely fall flat as a result.

Also, just to pique my curiosity: Do you read das_sporking?

Hey! First off thanks so much for reading my concept! It means a lot that you took the time to critique it and i really appreciate that. Okay lets get into it.

Okay so first off I do really like her kit concept and in game play style, however as a champion overall she literally doesn't have a point. She just is someone who punches other people. There is nothing here that really makes her who she is. For example, Yasuo is an expert swordsman who uses wind while fighting. Irelia is based around her blades and what they can do. Karma is a powerful mage who has many abilities. So many other champions have shields. So many other ones attack with their fists. So many people have an AoE slow. It just doesn't feel like she has a point. And she feels un creative despite what you have done with her,

Passive: Spirit honestly feels like a way to make your champion super unique. But it really is super unnecessary and really complicated. 3 seconds is far to broken so in reality she doesn't even need it. Especially with Explosive focus and spirit inferno makes her spirit constantly full. Not to mention some moves don"t even need it?! And to put the icing on the cake she has mana?? You cant have a third resource bar? Way to complicated and quite worthless.

Q: If her passive was in better shape I really like this move, it makes her a risky champion who needs to go all in. However this just screams Kled. "She needs to be aggressive" "It makes her attack faster in a short period." like she just feels like Kled.

W: Okay so this is a good move for her, and yes it works with her kit. Its just so boring! Its like Mundo, its like Renekton, its like every other damn juggernaut! Make something unique,

E: A pretty average AoE slow, it allows her to keep up with foes. Once again it seems really over used, and i just want some more creative ways for her to work.

R: I do like this move, however the ease with which spirit regens makes her immortal. All you do is pop the shield, auto people, and take damage. Then you heal yourself back up, and then you take damage again. She can hold it indefinitely! With 2000 health it basically becomes half her health.

Lore: Quality writing, I did enjoy it. I really like the story but it doesn't fit with her lore. She travels to piltover and learns progress but... Still uses her fists to fight? Wants progress but then attacks with a mob of villagers against karma and irelia? She is a wanderer and when she finds piltover she needs to return with something. Other than goals she doesn't work towards.

Overall

Xifeng is very well done, Great lore, great stats, great attention to detail. She just, like i have said feels bland. Everything she has doesn't feel unique, and doesn't really feel like she has a point. Here is what I think you should do to try and fix her. Okay what you have is a great idea of a daring risk taker! Someone who needs to be fighting to win and needs to fight to build up strength. (Cough cough Kled) Make her moves extremely risky! make her have to go all in to survive! also get rid of her passive or make it harder to keep and all her moves need it. right now its always full, and unneeded. She cant have it, and have mana,

Hey! Im just gonna leave you a nice review on your concept. I read it over and I like the idea of a juggernaut that has to fight and be agressive in order to be tanky.

Q: I think its a great idea to give her a window to attack fast and gain more Spirit. I think this ability is balanced and fits in with her concept.

W: Personally I think this ability fits in with her concept of using Spirit to attack and heal and this ability gives her the ability to deal damage sacrificing her spirit but regains it because she is damaging enemies correct? I think this is a good source of damage for her but it could be a little more unique somehow.

E: I think this is a good way for Xifeng to keep up with her opponents due to the slow and it definitely fits into her concept well.

R: I for one like the idea, however In my opinion its a tad underwhelming. It is definitely a good way for her to survive in battle/teamfights and most certainly applies to the juggernaut aspect. But maybe there could be something more interesting for her ultimate. In my opinion her concept is very unique but a shield is a little bland. I think something new could be brought to the table here.

Overall I think this concept is great. Its a unique idea to use Spirit to thrive in battle as she ramps up her tankiness which is great. Her abilities are good overall but some tweaks and changes could be made in my opinion. I hope you take some ideas into consideration. Also I love how in depth you went with her lore and the quotes she says when buying certain items :)
