Viatus: The Celestial Waymaker
The subtleties of the universe and its processes are lost to most, and lives are spent in pursuit of their cultivation and attainment. Viatus is truly rare amongst beings to have achieved such attunement with the world around him, a powerful cosmic Aspect that bends space and distance to his will. The ultimate utility support, Viatus specializes in large-scale mobility and coordination through his uniquely powerful portals. And when things get hectic for the dimensional guardian, he can quite literally tear through the Rift's reality to start anew.
Across Runeterra, stories are told in hushed tones of the great and powerful Waymaker, a singular being of enormous cosmic power. Each and every civilization seems to have legends of the cosmic guardian - the Visitor in Demacia, the Silver Sorcerer in Noxus, the Girly-guy-with-white-hair-who-saves-us-every-now-and-then in Zaun. Few have ever seen him, and even fewer still have met him properly. All that is ever left from his exploits are a pair of glowing blue footprints and a flickering portal of turquoise flame that closes as soon as it is discovered. When trouble arises, those who dare cause unrest soon go missing, and a statuesque man with hair like spider's silk is seen vanishing into a ring of blue flame. That man is Viatus, the Aspect of the Cosmos, a demigod of extraordinary magical power, who has roamed this world and countless others since he awoke in the vast darkness of the universe eons ago. Filled with a humbling sense of responsibility to care for and improve the worlds he discovers, Viatus now acts as the dimensional guardian for all who call the cosmos their home.
They say Noxians eat the hearts of their enemies after battle, raw, and that they'll fill their helms to the brim with blood to slurp up like stew. They say Noxians take the corpses of the slain and hang them on nooses outside their barracks to keep as gruesome motivation for their next battle. They say Noxians fuck their pigs and beat their children with clubs. They say Noxians consort with daemons and pray to the dark gods beyond Runeterra. They say a lot of horrible things about Noxians. At least, the Demacian company I steward for do.
_ "I heard there was a Noxian colonel in the Ionian invasion who took girls 'bout yay high and made them his concubines. When he came home with twenty blushing whores under his belt, his wife keeled over from shock!"_
The long, wooden table erupts with laughter. The inn in which we were staying was a modest one, barely large enough to accomodate our sizable company. It's a humble affair, a dozen rooms and one commons area, but the men prefer to sleep outside in their tents. Mance Chayster, the one speaking, still has his Northern Quarter accent that differentiated him from the western boys. He raises his mug, and I meekly step over to refill it with the pitcher the innskeeper gave me. He doesn't bother to thank me, as usual. I make my way around the table again, filling the men's mugs and cups. Besides the company, only a few other patrons make use of the commons, most sticking far away from us, keeping to the hearth in the corner.
"You're just jealous, Mance. You've never even been with a woman!"
That comes from Conner Holst, a new recruit from the provinces. Twenty-and-six years old with all the arrogance of a man five years his junior, a mane of reddish-blond hair frames his pointed, arrogant face. Mance affixes him with a surly leer, sloshing mead onto the wood of the table as he slams his mug down. "Oi, you little prick, I'll have you know I've been with more women then you've got years of age, boy."
Conner smiles without showing his teeth, shrugging as he leans back in his chair and puts his hand behind his head. "Sure, but only after you paid them." The other men snicker as Mance turns a more and more violent shade of red. I bow my head and let my hair fall over my eyes so they can't see me smile.
"Why you little....."
"Quiet, both of you." The deputy commander leans out of the shadows, his lank grey hair falling over his nose. Scars criscross the taut white skin of his face, and huge, hairy hands rest on the table. Hestero Velarious, the Grey Blade. Rumour had it that he was Noxian traitor who defected to Demacia after the failure in Ionia, that he was a wight from the Shadow Isles sent to punish traitors, defectors, and oathbreakers. That his father was a daemon and his mother a witch, that he killed his wet nurse as a toddler, that he had a sorcerous deal with death. Most stayed clear of him. The men spoke his name only in uneasy whispers, and yet still only when they're sure he isn't listening. He was assigned to our company after I became the stewardess, when the previous deputy drowned in a storm. The company commander, a drunkard and a recluse, generally left command to him, and the men hated them both for it.
Conner and Mance's mouths both close. Velarious glances up with sallow grey eyes and a look that could curdle milk. "You two could learn a great deal about the difference between soldiers and maids. Prattle on like a common wench, that girl in the corner over there probably has more sense than the two of you put together. I'll have quiet from the both of ye, and no more of this endless talk of Noxians and their sluts. We pay you to kill them, not spin wive's tales 'bout the company they keep. If you wanted a job doing that then you'd be better off singing in an opera house like some Buvelle wench."
The table's deadly quiet for a few moments, but when Velarious sinks back into his chair to continue his grim musings on the now-cold soup before him, the men begin their talk again, although with noticeably less clamor and mentions of Noxus. Mance is sneering into his soup, and Conner regards the flames broodingly. Long shadows stretch against the wooden floor, set adance by the flames, before the men begin to saunter off into the night and their tents, until only Mance, Conner, and Velarious remain. Velarious finally rises from his seat at the head of the table, leaving his bowl of stew untouched, shrugging on his thick fur coat and stomping out into the cold night outside.
_I detach myself from the wall, just another shadow, and begin picking up the men's plates to clean before I can go to bed myself. The plates are stacked high, but I know my trade, and I've never dropped one in my ten years of service. My mother was stewardess before me, and she taught me everything she knew before she died. _
Mance is still sitting in his seat, brooding, the fire casting long shadows across his broad, stubbly face. He grunts at me when I reach over his shoulder to take up his plate, but as I withdraw my hand he reaches up with surprising speed and snatches it at the wrist. I cry out and almost drop the plates before steadying myself.
"What's your name, girl?" He turns his head to look up at me, revealing bloodshot eyes and breath that smells of alcohol.
"G-gizette, ser."
Conner, sitting adjacent to Mance, shoots me a surly look. "Velarious got a soft spot for serving girls like you now, eh, girlie? Where'd you tickle that ugly grey chin of his to get his sword unsheathed?" He smiles cruelly.
"I - I don't know what you're talking abou-"
"Shut it," Mance growls, pulling me closer. The plates fall to the floor with a clatter, the nicer porcelain ones shattering into a million white pieces while the wooden ones thunk against the floor. "Ol' Greyblade and his stupid rules don't mean nothin' to me, girlie. It's been too long since I had a woman, bugger the draft and bugger the craven conscriptors. "Bout time I had one, and if you're the best I can have then that's that."
Conner scowls. "Don't forget me, Mance. I'll have her, too."
Mance grunts, grabbing me by the hair. I scream and kick, but one meaty hand clamps over my mouth and I feel another pair of hands take me by the knees. They drag me through the doorway, sneaking past the camp to the wood behind the inn, well out of earshot. The moon is bright in the night sky, but my vision is obscured by tears and Mance's shadow. Mance dumps me on the ground, dirt and leaves getting tangled in my hair, keeping one hand over my mouth while the other works its way down my corset. Over his shoulder, I can see Conner move over a few feet away to keep watch.
"Now, now, now, that's no way to treat a woman, is it?"
Mance turns quickly, letting me fall to the ground. I gather the ripped cloth back over my bosom, shaking. There is a man standing over by Conner, who has now turned and drawn his sword. Mance pulls a knife from his belt. "What's it to you, stranger? Move on, this doesn't concern you."
Though I cannot make out his face, I can see the shadow of the stranger's head cock slightly to the side. "I'm afraid it does, good ser. I could not stand by and watch you disrespect this lovely young woman in good conscience, now, could I?"
I can see Conner shift the grip on his weapon. "Like Mance said, it doesn't concern you. Move on, and maybe we won't gut you."
The stranger takes a step forward. The first thing I notice is his garb - a fine blue tunic, guantlets of a silvery metal, expensive-looking boots. A noble's clothes. In the moonlight, he has an ageless, statuesque face, beautiful in a pale, lined way. His eyes, even in the semidarkness, shine a piercing blue, like jewels. He has long hair like a woman, the color of fresh snow. He smiles, and raises his hands. "I'd rather not have this descend into further violence. It would surely be a shame to harm you two gentlemen, and make a mess in front of the lady to boot."
Conner laughs haughtily, but Mance snarls. "That's it!" He charges forward, his knife raised. The stranger only watches his approach with an amused expression. The instant before Mance reaches him, the stranger whirls out of the way, and in a flash of blue flame, Mance disappears. In his place is a swirling ring of fire, inside of which I can see black and purple forms shift and contort grotesquely. I can hear Mance's faint scream as he shrinks further and further into the abyss.
Conner takes a step back, and the stranger holds his hands behind his back. "Will you lay down your arms and depart, too, good ser? I'm sure the Void would love another visitor, but doubtless it would be quite the travesty for Demacia to lose a soldier so brave as you, that you would dishonor a fair maid such as this beneath the cover of darkness. Perhaps -"
He doesn't finish his sentence. Conner is already running at him, but this time he feints to the left, slashing at the stranger's chest. The stranger sidesteps, and a small white light flits out from his tunic, whizzing straight at Conner. Conner's eyes widen and he slashes at the sprite with his sword, but it maneuvers out of the way and flies straight at his face. Conner lets out an indignified yelp as he takes a face of white sparks, snatching at it as it whizzes around his head.
The stranger has begun to speak, murmuring words I do not understand. His hair raises in a great billowing cloud around his head. His hands move almost too fast for me to register, and his eyes are closed. Then they open, pure and blue and terrible, and everything goes white.
When I open my eyes again, I am surrounded by a swirling vortex of purple and blue and silver, a dome of colors and sounds and senses the likes of which I cannot describe. Whispers of song, melodic and haunting, the shouts of the gleeful and the screams of the tortured fill my ears. Aromas and tastes both foreign and familiar brush across my nose and tongue, and my hands and lips feel the soft kisses of grass, steel, and men. Tiny glass windows to other worlds coalesce into existence across the great maelstrom of magic. A one-armed man with a beard looks out across a great ocean beside a huge green monster wearing a top hat. A crowned dragon careens through a nebula of glowing stars, and a man in blue and black armor grapples with a shadow with malevolent red eyes. A white shadow and a wolf sprint through a dark and snowy forest, while a man in a carved ivory mask weeps petulantly to the shadows of his prison cell, and I can see even stranger things - huge purple monsters writhing in the blackness, with massive yellow eyes and cruel black horns, masked figures with manes of colored hair, carrying delicate glass flutes, bounding through fields of candyfloss grass, huge golden discs rising from the sand and stars collapsing into nothingness. All these things I see before me and in my mind, beautiful and terrible, and then it is gone, and I am back in the forest beneath the moon.
The stranger is standing above me, offering a hand. The little white orb I had mistaken for a sprite flits around his head, chirping happily. I take his hand shakily, standing on unsteady legs. "Th-thank you, ser."
The man shakes his head. "It would be pleasing to assume that anyone in this realm would have done the same. Perhaps with a bit less temporal magic, but nonetheless......That was a cruel and cowardly thing those men were doing, and I make a point to stop the cruel and cowardly in their tracks." He smiles. "I must now bid you adieu, madame."
"Wait, no, don't go....."
The man's brilliant blue eyes twinkle. "I am afraid I must. I have other matters to attend to." Behind him I can see torches flickering through the trees and the calls of men. "I have awoken your fellows, fair maiden. I hope they are of a trustworthy sort." He snaps his fingers, and another ring of blue fire opens to the right of him, facing the ground. Mance and Conner tumble out, clutching each other. They sit up, shivering violently and muttering in some strange language. Their eyes are glazed over purple, and their skin and hair have been turned pure white, sickly violet veins lacing across their arms, legs, and necks. "These two won't be bothering you anymore, I expect. And if you ever have need of me again, you need only ask." The portal closes, and another opens behind him. He turns and takes a step up, and then another, and then another, rising as if he were moving up an invisible staircase, up to the mouth of the portal.
He's nearly through the portal, and I can see the soldiers moving ever closer through the trees. "Wait!"
He turns and looks over his shoulder, a sly smile on his lips. "Yes?"
A cool breeze is blowing from the portal, and I can see green fields of tall grass between the blue fire. I brush a strand of hair from my face. "You never told me your name!"
The stranger laughs, putting one leg through the portal and ducking beneath the uppermost part of the ring. "In your culture, they call me the Visitor - elsewhere, the Waymaker, yet others the Aspect of the World." He steps through with the other leg, turning to face me from the other side. "But my true name is no title." The voices of the others are louder than ever, and I can see their silhouettes between the bushes. The stranger smiles, waving, and his little orb friend (is it bigger than before?) follows him through the portal. "You can call me Viatus, little one."
And with that he makes a motion with his hands as if he were wiping a window, and the portal closes with a sigh, the blue flame extinguished by a sudden gust of cold wind. The soldiers burst through the trees, led by Velarious, his sword drawn. He looks across the clearing to see the catatonic Mance and Conner gibbering on the ground, then affixes me with narrowed eyes the color of flint. "What business is this?" The other men fan out behind him, holding torches and swords, half-dressed in motleys of armor and undergarments.
I smile slightly, standing, holding my dress together with one hand. With the other, I point to the ground below where his final portal once hung, to a pair of ghostly blue footprints, flickering with blue flame in the pale moonlight.

Art done by anndr on DeviantArt, titled "Rhanloo". Truly awesome piece that I felt matched how I envisioned Viatus perfectly (it even has his orb!).

ABILITIES:
http://i.imgur.com/ooKpQcF.png Passive - Planeswalker Viatus ignores unit collision. Additionally, Viatus periodically enters into an empowered state when out of combat, which renders him invulnerable and grants the ability to move through terrain.
INNATE: Viatus perpetually ignores unit collision. Additionally, Viatus gains stacks of Phase as he moves around. At full (100) Phase, Viatus’s next spellcast out of combat will grant him the bonus Planeswalker. Planeswalker renders Viatus invulnerable for [4-12] seconds (based on level) and grants 「 20-66%」 (based on level) total bonus movement speed, but disables basic attacks and Orb of the Traveler. Viatus also gains the ability to move through terrain, but the bonus movement speed is lost whilst doing so. If Planeswalker ends before Viatus emerges from a piece of terrain, the effects will remain until he does so. Displacement and stun effects will end this effect prematurely. Cooldown: 30-15 seconds (based on level)
Ability Notes:
-
Entering a Portal and emerging from its sister will not grant the amount of Phase as if he had traveled the distance between the two.
-
Planeswalker will be canceled by all displacement and stun effects, including knockups, knockbacks, suspensions, stuns, fears, charms, polymorphs, and suppressions. Slows, roots, blinds, and silences will not cancel it, but groundings will prevent Viatus from moving through terrain.
-
Viatus's model will turn a pale blue and he will become vaguely transparent (think Spooky Gangplank) while under the effects of Planeswalker.
http://i.imgur.com/fiBeTsh.jpg Q: Orb of the Traveler Viatus sends his orb forth in a line, dealing magic damage. The orb's damage, range, hitbox, missile speed, mana cost, and cooldown increase with Viatus's Phase stacks.
PASSIVE: Viatus gains up「 25-250」bonus range on his basic attacks, based on his Phase stacks. Additionally, they perpetually deal 20/30/40/50/60 [+15/20/25/30/35% AP] bonus magic damage as well.
ACTIVE: Viatus sends his orb forth in a line, dealing a minimum of 35/55/75/95/115 [+25% AP] and a maximum of 100/150/200/250/300 [+80% AP] magic damage to all enemies struck. At max Phase the orb will briefly draw in enemy champions along its path, slowing them by 20/27/34/41/48% for 2 seconds afterwards. The orb will remain at the target destination, revealing it, and slowly shrink back to minimum size before returning to Viatus as this ability comes off of cooldown, additionally scaling with cooldown reduction. Viatus gains double Phase stacks while moving towards his orb. Range: 700 – 2100 | Cooldown: 3-12 seconds | Cost: 35-80 mana
Ability Notes:
- This ability has no cast time, meaning that Viatus can cast it while moving. This makes it a potent kiting tool.
http://i.imgur.com/IokaCPv.png W: Waymaker Viatus creates a Portal at the target location. Both allies and enemies can enter Portals to become untargetable for a brief period, and allies will additionally gain bonus mana regeneration from within Portals. Abilities and projectiles can also enter Portals, but will be destroyed.
PASSIVE: : Viatus stores a charge of this ability every 20 seconds, up to 1/2/2/3/3 at once.
ACTIVE: Viatus channels for 0.5 second before creating a Portal with 4 health at the target location, where it will remain for ten minutes or until destroyed, losing one health every time it is hit by an enemy spell. Portals regenerate 1 health per 10 seconds. Viatus cannot create a Portal on a location he does not have vision of. Portals will absorb and destroy all projectiles and abilities that enter them, allied or enemy, and both allied and enemy champions (including Viatus himself) can enter Portals by right-clicking them. Champions within a portal are rendered untargetable and invulnerable, and allied champions regenerate 20/25/30/35/40 mana per second within a Portal. Champions can remain within a Portal for up to 3/4/5/6/7 seconds and can exit at any time, with a lockout period of 4 seconds after that before they are allowed to enter the same portal again. Portals cannot be destroyed with a champion inside, and only one champion may be within a Portal at a time. Viatus may have a maximum of 2/2/3/3/4 Portals active at once. Range: 700 | Static Cooldown: 1.5 seconds | Cost: 70/80/90/100/110 mana
http://i.imgur.com/sTZIQnj.jpg Viatus's portals are ethereal and shifting, vaguely ellipsical in nature. They are magical representations of Viatus's own immense dimensional power and thus reflect its chaotic and turbulent nature.
Ability Notes:
-
Portals are created through vector casting, e.g. Viatus chooses where the Portal will be and then drags to the direction he wants it to face. Alternatively, he can simply cast it on terrain and it will face outward, like the entrance of a Bard portal.
-
Viatus can destroy a Portal by recasting this ability on an existing one, regardless of cooldown.
-
Portals can be seen through the Fog of War.
-
Portals will shift to a lighter shade of blue if an allied champion is within it, and a dark purple if an enemy is within.
-
Silenced and grounded champions can still enter Portals.
-
Essentially, Portals in their base state are like little dimensional pockets that can 'hide' champions for a brief while, although the trick is that both allies and enemies can use them. Once you enter a Portal, your screen will gray out and your vision becomes that as if you were standing right outside the portal. Rightclicking outside of the Portal will cause you to exit, or simply waiting for the duration to expire. Projectiles that enter the Portal will not affect you and are instead destroyed.
http://i.imgur.com/LKzKQR6.jpg E: Cosmic Decree Viatus creates a dimensional link between two Portals. Champions and abilities that enter through one Portal will exit through the other.
ACTIVE: Viatus creates a two-way link between two Portals. From then on, projectiles, or any ability that possess a vector beyond that of the Portal from which it enters will then emerge from its sister Portal, with the appropriate remaining range, applying all of their effects to whatever they hit on the other side. Champions who enter or were already in Portals, either through normal movement, dashes, or displacement effects will also emerge from the sister Portal after a delay scaling with the distance between the two Portals, with a lockout period of 4 seconds before they can enter it again, lowered to 0.5 second if forced through the portal through enemy CC. If the circumstances permit, minions and non-epic or legendary monsters can also pass through Portals. If a projectile passes through the same 2 Portals more than three times, then it is destroyed. Range: 1000/2000/3000/4000/5000 | Cooldown: 60/55/50/45/40 seconds | 70/65/60/55/0 mana
Ability Notes:
-
The concept is easy enough to understand, but essentially, when Viatus links two portals, anything that goes through one will come out the other. If Ashe sends her ult through one, then the arrow will reappear out the the sister Portal and apply its effects as normal. Even better, something like a Vel'Koz ult, which can be casted directly into one Portal, with the remaining ray extending out from the sister. If Caitlyn's ult target walks through one Portal and exits through the other, then the bullet will follow them through the Portal and out the other to strike them. Essentially, if it worked in Portal, then it works here.
-
Linked Portals will have a small arrow beneath of a corresponding color (think Zed shadows or Ori ball), green for the first link and magenta for the second (as Viatus can only have a maximum of four Portals active at once).
-
Naturally, if one Portal's duration expires or is destroyed, then the link is severed and its sister Portal returns to its base state.
-
In the case of champions, there is a small delay before a champion emerges from the sister Portal, scaling with distance. So if a champion is literally traveling the max 5000 range, then there will be a sizeable couple second delay before they emerge from the sister Portal. However, if the two Portals happen to be very close together, then the travel will be nigh instantaneous.
http://i.imgur.com/anc0HQu.png R: Reality Shift Viatus rips away a broad swathe of reality, creating a large zone that inhibits combat.
Viatus marks a large area. After a 2-second delay, he rips away the fabric of reality within the area. All units, allied and enemy, within the zone are silenced and disarmed and lose vision outside of the zone, while champions outside of it cannot see within, except Viatus. While within the zone, Viatus gains Planeswalker, which persists for 2 seconds after leaving the zone. Enemy or neutral units entering or leaving the zone are briefly slowed by 70%. The zone lasts 4/6/8 seconds before fading. Range: 900 (cast range) / 600/900/1200 (radius) | Cooldown: 130/110/90 seconds | Cost: 100 mana
Ability Notes:
- The area within Reality Shift is a tinted lavender sphere of celestial energy. While within the zone, the Summoner's Rift outside looks like a warped, inverted version of itself akin to Luigi's Negative Zone from SSBB.

Joke: Viatus creates a portal at waist-length, and hops into it, but becomes stuck halfway. He and his orb try to free him, unsuccessfully.
- The space between spaces can get a bit...tight....at times.
- I suppose this is the 0.0000001% chance of failure that that used portal salesman was talking about.
- This......could be awhile.
- Well, when life gives you lemons......you make life take the lemons back!
Dance: Viatus does a dance like this: http://gifrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Neil-DeGrasse-Tyson-Dancing.gif
