Elise and Jinx need new skins

ItsJustMania··7 votes·16,850 views

I love the champion Elise and feel that she is in some ways one of the best well rounded bunglers in the game. I gladly pick Elise every time I get to jungle. My one downside to Elise is that she only has one skin, along with Jinx. The only other skin for Elise is the victorious skin which if I'm not mistaken was a season 3 reward for gold and higher. For some of us newer players that would love to earn the victorious skin for Elise along with the others can't get these skins because of them being season rewards. However, the other victorious champions have a large pool of skins to use. Jarvin IV, Janna, and upcoming Morgana, all have multiple skins to use whereas Elise does not. Elise and Jinx both only have their default and one other skin and I believe that if Yasuo can get a new skin (PROJECT:Yasuo) then Elise and Jinx should be able to get new skins as well.

Thanks for the post! Glad you're excited about these two :)

Word of advice: Don't make promises around here that Riot can't keep. Some champs have waited nearly four years for a new skin (Evelynn) and others won't get them until ChampUp gets around to doing their reworks (Evelynn, Yorick, Urgot).

Thanks for the post! Glad you're excited about these two :)

Don't get me wrong: The skins that are getting released are nice, but the longer the company waits to release new skins for champs, the bigger the anticipation builds and the less Rito can live up to it (Celestine Soraka being the biggest example of huge anticipation, lackluster results)...

RiotRiot Baconhawk8 votes

We are getting to them all. It takes a while since we have a lot of champs, but we make skins for all of them.

Ya, my friend loves Elise (one of his favorite junglers despite him being an arachnophobic) was disappointed when Victorious Elise was announced last year and wasn't eligible for it. Leaving him just classic and death blossom.

That's how I feel too especially since this is my first season in League but please Riot more Elise Elise skins

I feel you guys!

Glad (I mean that in the nicest way possible) you know our pain. Even though I do not have her myself, dat skin

TerraRising2 votes

Sorry, but please do not be deceptive with me.

Riot has already announced that Eve and Yorick, two of the champs most in need of new skins, will not get one until their reworks. They've also said that neither champ will receive a rework this calendar year. Riot's delay, to be blunt, has nothing to do the number of champs out but their unwillingness to do anything with the champs until their

Zilean, who is not publicly scheduled for a rework, will have gone four years without a new skin on September 9. Is the delay in getting him a new skin because of all the other champs?

RiotRiot Baconhawk5 votes

We will make skins for everyone. I'm sorry if you are reading deeper into this and seeing something I'm not actually saying :\ We do consider all champions, time since their last skin, popularity, age, viability in terms of model and other factors when making skins, so some may take more time than others to get a new skin (i.e., Zilean), but they will, eventually.

Hellioning3 votes

'Eventually' is a tough pill to swallow for fans of unpopular camps, especially when they see champs with lots of skins get more.

RiotRiot Baconhawk4 votes

It's easy to come up with a skin; it's hard to come up with an AWESOME skin, that looks badass in game, that has a story to tell. Quinn got a skin and she only had one. Kha is getting a skin. Diana got hers, finally. Yasuo just got one--but yes, I know, he's new. Don't forget those champs when you think of Caitlyn's new skin (the first one to actually change her particles!)

Remember, we know that unpopular or old champs need skins. We want to do right by them, and you guys who play them. But it does make sense to wait for reworks before making a new skin. (Sorry.)

Hellioning6 votes

Ok!

...

Skarner and Karma's reworks are here! They've been here for a while. New skins...where?

Oh, that Lunar Goddess Karma skin! Yeah, it wasn't that great, so we scrapped it. Sorry, guys! Tryndamere DEFINITELY needed his 7th skin, though.

And again, you bring up the 'we need to have them tell a story and be fantastic.' What happened to old joke skins? I've seen Beach Queen Lissandra, and dodgeball Syndra, and Dragon Master freaking Swain. Those are cool skin ideas! But instead we need Iron Maiden With An Ugly Color Palette Lissandra and Water Syndra. Those are unique and interesting ideas.

I'm sorry if I sound frustrated, Baconhawk. It's not about you...or, it's not your fault that things are like the way they are. But I've been listening to the 'be patient, we want them to be awesome!' song and dance for a while. I've heard the boy cry wolf too many times to get excited.

RiotRiot Baconhawk6 votes

Hey... sometimes skins just don't work. Kha had a skin in the works that didn't work out... when we make stuff, we want to make it right. Otherwise, we wouldn't be, well, Riot. (And I personally LOVE his scarab skin. Holy mother of Shurima.)

Also, there's always two sides to a tale: while Pool Party Liss and Dodgeball Syndra are neat ideas and appeal to a specific taste, remember there are people who love Iron Maiden Liss and Water Mage Syndra. In fact, those two happen to be two of my favorites to play--the iron maiden skin is such an interesting concept and color palette (to me). Zoom in and check out the details! but I'm not trying to get you to agree with me. That's the beauty of opinions... they're free, and everyone can have one! Free of charge!

And on the topic of Karma and Skarner: Karma got a rework and essentially 4 new skins. It doesn't feel like it because they are technically the same theme, name, and cost, but it was an upgrade we made at the cost of a lot of work. Karma and Skarner both need new skins, yes; but first, Karma's rework needed time to soak, to rest, and so everyone can enjoy her new look & feel... and Skarner, well, we know the epic story of his kit changes. Usually, we try not to make a skin for a champion that is having a major kit change, because it may alter the model/animations/particles significantly, which has a huuuge cumulative production cost. Guess who pays that cost in waited time, frustration, and longing for the next skin? All of us! I WANT A NEW KARMA SKIN, FFS. I'M A KARMA MAIN!

Anyway, we know. Ugh. It's hard to say and hard to hear, but believe me, I've been on your side, and it SUCKS waiting! But when you wait, there is a reason. (New Summoner's Rift, anyone?... we were--and are--kinda working on that a lot). The thing is, you guys don't get to see into the black box that is Rito and all the wizardry we're stirring up, the Gnars and Azirs being made, the updates and skins and awesomeness that is to come. We love making stuff for you guys--you have NO IDEA how good it feels to get it JUST RIGHT—but like giving a gift to someone it's really hard to NOT TELL THEM and you squirm and ugh you just wanna but then YEAH FINALLY A KHA'ZIX SKIN YUSSSS. (And it's the RIGHT one for the time. The one he needed.)

We're always listening, and it hurts to hear your frustrations, but I hope you can find it in your heart to trust us. <3

exec31 votes

Speaking of the iron Lissandra skin can you guys do somethign to brighten up some of her particles, her E in particular as it's very hard to see and ends up coming off as a cheat skin because it's not nearly as well televised (like it should be) as her base (also please do Pool Party Liss <3 ).

Hellioning1 votes

You've been appealing to the people with a specific taste for dark and edgy skins for a while. Less so with the humorous skins. I understand that you can't just exclusively cater to me and people like me, but it really feels like you're catering to people who want 'I'M RENGAR BUT I'M ALSO A PANTHER RAWR'.

I'm aware Karma got a rework. Trust me, I am VERY aware Karma got a rework. But this isn't a 'Karma's rework is terrible and the worst thing that Riot ever did thread', so I'll get to my point: It's been years since that rework happened. There have been champions that have existed for less time than that that already got a new skin. Skarner is closer, but it's still mostly finished at this point. At least I'm not an Eve main. Poor, poor Eve mains.

I'm aware that with 116 or so champions you can't get to everyone in a timely fashion, and being forced to make skins for each champion in turn means that a bunch of really stupid themes get forced in. But it's really tiring to play an unpopular champ, then open up s@20 and see Ezreal getting another skin. Hell, I like that skin; it's a cheap skin, it's concept is cool, I'd buy it if I didn't already have an Ez skin. But I can't help but feel that skin development time should have gone for someone who doesn't already have like 6 skins.

It really doesn't help that the 1350 price tier is a thing that exists, plus the fact that champs are only getting one release skin. At least Kha is finally getting a skin option that isn't A) rather expensive and B) his only option. I know both of these things come from 'we're putting in a lot of work to make these skins the best they can be, so A) they have to be more expensive and B) we can't make another release skin!' but it's difficult to see that if you don't like the idea of Kha'Zix/Vel'Koz as a robot and are faced with the fact you have to pay more and you have only one option.

I'm going to do something rare on the internet.

Baconhawk, I apologize for pushing my frustration with the company on you. My anger should really be focused on the ChampUp team and their inability to focus on the reworks they need to get finished (Sion, Yorick, Poppy, Viktor) and focusing on easy fixes that no one's really asking for (Garen, Rammus, Sona).

I've just been waiting for years to spend my RP on new skins for some of these champs (especially Yorick), but the ChampUp team just can't get their stuff together. It feels like Riot just doesn't want anymore of my money when it comes to those champs.

Sion's been a "High priority" for over three years... and nothing. I mean, the "Stealth Rework" that started the whole "Soon™" meme took less time than Sion has taken. Xelnath's planned Yorick fixes were delivered to Scruffy in January 2014... and nothing since then. Poppy... yeah.

Zilean and Evelynn won't be looked at until those three are fully reworked... therefore, nada.

So when you say "they will eventually get skins," I'm saying "Don't make promises you can't keep," because those decisions are in your team's hands.

RiotRiot Baconhawk6 votes

I appreciate this. Remember two things:

  1. We ARE working on things.
  2. We CAN'T tell you what they are, lest they change (see Magma Chamber, Ao Shin).

Also, ChampUp team has their own priorities--I don't know what they are--but I can tell you that a simple Rammus TU is waaay different than a Sion kit rework. Any kit rework is essentially creating a brand new champion, which uses designer time, which is part of the reason we aren't releasing so many new champs. Everything has to be balanced--if it wasn't, you would have never seen the adorable Gnar... and Azir...

Lastly, we take time to do things right. I am truly sorry you have to wait--I was on that side of the screen before, for a year and a half, and I know the feels. RITO PLS WTF GIEF SKIN/CHAMP/MAPSKIN/REWORK/ETC believe me when I say

we. know.

we are making cool shit just like always.

patience. :3

TerraRising1 votes

Patience? Does Riot really have the right to ask for more of it?

RiotRiot Baconhawk7 votes

You seem to post a lot of negative comments directed at Riot as a company. What are your specific grievances? I thought I addressed those in your original post. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Cuix2 votes

Statements like "just wait", "be patient", and "we're working on it" have really begun to lose meaning from Riot and even crossed over into the territory of actively frustrating. This is quite unfortunate, most notably because the usual presented alternative (just staying quiet) is far worse.

RiotRiot Baconhawk7 votes

Definitely not trying to pacify you guys. Hell, we love that you are passionate about the game and impatient. We are too. But we don't want to just dump junk on you and say "here you go, take it and like it". We want to make sure it's freaking awesome, and unfortunately that takes time, effort, love, hard work, sometimes frustration, delays, scrapping projects and starting over, rethinking approaches, doing surveys, checking data, etc, which can all take time. But we try to make sure we get it right.

It is entirely your prerogative to be impatient. Like I said, we're impatient too. I'm just asking you to understand where we're coming from, how we operate and the fact we care about the game as much as you do so we aren't going to put out a crap skin/champ/game mode/update. (At least, we are going to try our damndest not to.)

Cuix1 votes

Yup, totally understandable! Right now, though, that frustration is at a peak. The whole lore fiasco has been really troubling, showing that long waits sometimes don't actually reflect an upcoming payoff. Also, the two most recent reworks (Sona and Cassi) are being received rather poorly, which is contributing to the problem.

I'd say that things have been getting better overall, but it's a rough patch right now. Terra's sentiment is being pretty strongly felt by a lot of us. It should, however, blow over by the time Worlds comes around.

RiotRiot Baconhawk6 votes

Understandable. There's also a lot of misinformation going around about the lore changes... I'd call that the "fiasco" and not the actual changes, personally.

Reworks are always going to be met with resistance, sadly. As designers of the game it's what we believe is best, but we are monitoring thoughts, winrates, opinions, actual performance, etc.

I'd always take what you read on reddit/boards/twitter/etc with a grain of salt... Humanity in general tends to be a bit knee-jerky when it comes to things they love. And that's definitely all of us and LoL. (Also remember the simple fact that usually only disgruntled people bother to post. That's definitely a contributing factor.)

smitske3 votes

People are just fed up by all the hollow promises of Riot. You ask us to trust you guys to do the right thing, if anything the past has shown multiple times that we cannot trust you on that, because you will disappoint us, like you have time on time again.

We here a lot of excuses often but little that is actually being done so there would not need to be excuses that already do not hold any value any longer.

I liked the game, I really did, but now I can barely get myself to login to the game because I am so fed up with Riot.

Gixia1 votes

Understandable. There's also a lot of misinformation going around about the lore changes... I'd call that the "fiasco" and not the actual changes, personally.

I hope Riot is at least taking responsibility for that misinformation rather than blaming players for it, since Riot's chosen direction for lore makes it literally impossible for any outcome other than spreading misinformation. When you retcon out a vast swathe of prior storyline in an instant while still leaving some details intact, people are left without the knowledge of what events count, and which ones don't. Misinformation then spreads because there's no actual information to go off of.

The only precedent I can think of for this type of situation is when DC launched their New 52, a move which ultimately had the exact same issues and then some.

TerraRising3 votes

I have a multitude of problems with Riot at this specific moment, so be prepared for a very long post.

None of this is directed at you, personally, but I'm going to air it all out. Hope you can share it with your friends in the company as it just lays everything I have on the table, as it were:

  1. Lore:

Being a lore nerd for almost as long as I started playing (It was a Rioter who directed me to the story), I fell in love with the champ backgrounds and the JoJ and I started really caring about the game. Then, after getting burned by Narrative after: • The end of the JoJ and the League Judgments • The first apology for the lore team's silence after that happened without warning (January 2012) • The way Karma's new story didn't seem right. • The way Katarina's rework removed references to her father and made her feel like a generic assassin with red hair, big boobs and a thing for leather. • The way Soraka's rework also changed Warwick and totally messed up Singed (who hasn't been fixed in two years despite numerous pleas). • The Shadow Isles event that totally forgot Evelynn (a very interesting character) and messed up Maokai's origin (which wasn't fixed until after Freljord several months later). • The Freljord event, which messed up even more champ stories, destroyed Trundle and tried to remove the Ionia references to Udyr, and how "holier than thou" we were treated by numerous Riot staff and how indignant they got when we expressed how much we hated how new Trundle felt like the Wampa from Star Wars.
• The following year-and-a-half, where we were given nothing from the lore team, not even a "Yes, we're still here, we're still reading your comments and we thank you for keeping the discussion going!" [Note: That last one really hurt because as we were desperately trying to engage the company for something to prove our "faith" in them, we were getting bombarded with comments like "Riot doesn't give a shit about the lore anymore" and "Riot can't make money off the lore like they do with eSports." Meanwhile, the lore team sat silent on their pedestals in their ivory tower, not having our back as we were trying to defend our faith in Narrative and treating us, it seemed like it was beneath them to even say "Hello" to us, even though Riot claims they're for the community.] • Tom Abernathy saying that "plot doesn't matter in games" and not really clarifying it to any satisfying degree. • Being told, repeatedly, that what now counted as lore was marketing devices like the "Get Jinxed" music video, the "Trials of the Poro" cartoon, several comic strips (Quinn, Zac, SG Udyr), Voice over taunt Easter eggs and everything else except actual text-based stories. • Rioters (who all claimed to not be part of the lore team) that would say anything about the story would direct us to the fan fiction section (with one trying actually to promote his personal series). This was especially insulting since, as a League cosplayer and part of the creative community, what I wanted was actual story from the company, not some fanmade nonsense.

After all that **abysmal **treatment from Narrative (along with the other points I'm going to make later on), I was ready to put anyone at Riot to task for making promises. I was ready to give up on a game I spent over three years supporting, playing and cosplaying (despite how wonderful Riot staff treated me and my Braum cosplay at Anime Expo).

Then, the dev blog and the, frankly, weak excuse for not saying anything to us. The first feeling I got reading TommyGnox's post was, the lore team didn't care how loyal I was. They were more interested in making empty promises, doing a less than token effort in communicating and, most insulting of all, trying to attract new lore fans instead of making amends to their most loyal ones.

The last straw came when Opeli used a really bad "Big Lebowski" reference and seemed to dismiss a comment about how bad the new Amumu short lore was, I was ready to fight anyone and everyone. (Continued)

TerraRising3 votes

(continued from above) Narrative was going to have to prove they were serious about their apologies, their willingness to communicate and their interest in making better stories despite already hearing excuses from RiotEntropy that they can't release stuff faster.

They've gotten better over the weekend but they're nowhere close to healing all the damage they've done and they have a very long way to go to prove themselves.

And, for the record, I really do feel more than "entitled" to say that about Narrative. As they lost the right to my blind faith and destroyed my overall faith in Riot, I feel I gained the right to demand they act seriously about their own promises and lofty goals and press them when I feel they're not. They got me to care again, and damn it, they're going to care just as much as I do.

  1. Zilean's "new" skin and the problem with ChampUp:

When I hear about the skin team making/planning new skins for "forgotten" champions, I'm reminded of what ChampUp team members have constantly said in the past.

"We don't work on new skins for champs in the rework queue, since it would mean double the work for the team.

Zilean, despite not receiving a new skin since September 2010, was put in the rework queue because Meddler wanted to improve the "time lord" aspect of the champion. It was then announced that Zilean's rework would only happen after Sion, Poppy, Yorick (another champion that needs some skin love, btw) and Urgot. Evelynn and Taric are also in the same boat.

Now, Sion's always been a goal of ChampUp to rework, but in the three years (and his Warmonger skin) we get reworks on Garen, Katarina, Soraka (now twice), Twisted Fate (and his Gangnam Style dance), Sivir (and her god-awful dance), Nasus (see Sivir), Sona (who needed a texture update more than a kit rework), etc. The team has also failed to finish reworking a number of champs, most recently Fiora.

Don't get me wrong, some of those other reworks were good Karthus and the Pentakill relaunch, Twitch, Heimerdinger, etc, but they weren't going to get me a new Zilean, Evelynn or Taric skin any sooner.

Then, there's Celestine Soraka. Riot memes like "Soon™" and <insert champion> REWORK WHERE" came from Riot's inability to get their shit together and do something about a champion they considered a problem for years. Morello just never bothered to pull the trigger on it.

However, when the rework was finally released last year, it was without the teased "Battle Priestess" skin. Months later, we would finally get a new Soraka skin. What we got was a "Final Fantasy white mage" homage that was, frankly, not remotely worth the three year wait. (In comparison, Udyr got the Spirit Guard ultimate skin after waiting nearly as long.)

It seemed that Riot knew they had generated high expectations for an epic skin with the three year delay and purposefully failed to try to deliver on that just to get something out for her. Hell, most of my cosplay friends who like Soraka won't touch that design because it was so disappointing.

So, when I hear the skins team say "We're working on stuff for Zilean/Evelynn/Taric" I have all that history floating in my head. And, ironically, the skin team is one of the few departments at Riot that seems to have their shit together (Final Boss Veigar being one of the best ever!)

  1. Dominion:

I loved Dominion when it came out. Awesome story, faster games, everything was pretty good for me and my attention span. Riot also seemed to be excited about the map, promising a ranked mode and support for the map. The champion spotlight videos even had tips for Dominion.

I even started shoutcasting Dominion tournaments for NESL in April 2012.

Then, it seemed to get phased into the background. Dominion champion tips disappeared from the spotlight videos, a de-emphasis on promoting the map (on direction from Morello and continued by Ghostcrawler) happened, promises of a Ranked mode were made and didn't happen, Dominion tournaments were canceled and the community had to keep them going.

(continued)

TerraRising3 votes

(Continued from above)

Then, you hear that Morello is paranoid about promoting more than one map in League and that Riot won't be having a ranked mode because there aren't enough players to support it (a self-fulfilling prophecy and a situation Riot created).

Frankly, Riot has done nothing but shit on the Dominion community, only offering a token effort (one guy) in balancing the map and even saying that's not worth the effort. So, as a lore fan who felt the same way by Narrative, I can empathize with how that community must feel right now.

There are more grievances, but it's 4:30 in the morning and I need to get to work in a few hours. I hope you were able to power through all of it and I hope you're able to share some of it with the relevant parties. I want to believe that Riot means well, but their actions dictate otherwise and they really need to work on fixing that.

Sion and Viktor are being worked on though. Have been for a while.

and/or

Jinx Full metal Jinx, where she is kind of based on Samus. She would have a regular hand, and a cannon hand, where she she can either shoot rockets or projectiles. Also, she can lay mines, and use rockets on her feet for her passive. For her W, she could shoot an orb and shoot it to slow. For her ultimate, she could shoot a mega rocket, or a large, exploding orb.

We have full metal Jayce, and i think is based on Samus

nonamewarrior1 votes

It kind of is, but I think Jinx would be so much more accurate, since

  1. she is a girl
  2. she is not holding an oversized hammer
  3. she can change which projectile she fires
  4. Samus doesn't melee
  5. Jinx and Samus much more similar
  6. Jayce's skin could also be based on Iron Man

I mean that I don't think that Riot would make a skin based in the same character from another skin. Also, the only thing that makes reference to Iron man is in the voice filter and the light of his hammer.
