One night, in the streets of Demacia…

A young page bursts into an unknown cathedral at the brink of midnight. His clothes are tattered, trying to escape the pursuit of Demacian Gaurds.

As he desperately slammed the sanctuary doors, he whirled around to check his surroundings. The room glowed with pristine light; and filled the dark crevasses with warmth.

The boy shivered as he walked down the shining tabernacle. He carried in his hands a sack of gold coins to feed his family. It was all he had acquired; his will to live was slowly dying.

As he trudged up the steps towards the majestic statue in the middle, he collapsed out of pain and exhaustion. He sobbed as he knelt down on the floor, hoping for a vestige of redemption.

“My child, why does ye doubt your soul?”

The boy shrieked in fear as he turned around. A mysterious priest, clad in the finest of linen, slowly strode over to him, offering a hand to the trembling child.

The boy stumbled back towards the base of the statue. “Please, messir, don’t hurt me! I didn’t steal from here, I swear!”

The priest knelt down and gently drew the purse from the boy’s trembling hands. “Yet, thou has committed to taking that which is not his. So, it matters not if you stole from here. You are a thief, either way."

The boy collapsed in sobs. “I-I’m so l-lost…My mother and father have the plague, my sister’s blind, and my older brother has lost an arm…I can’t pay the doctors, and they won’t help me…”

The room was filled with a chilling silence. The burning embers of the candle floated to the ground like leaves from a tree.

“The wealthy…They don’t deserve our money! All they do is take and steal! And, what does the Demacian government do about this? NOTHING!”

The boy burst into tears as he tucked his head into his knees. The priest gently lifted the boys head, and bought it up to his hooded gaze.

“Come, my son. There is no need for fear. For, all wounds heal over time, as it is His Will.”

“His…W-Will?”

The priest stood up. The sniffling boy looked up at the priest with desperate eyes.

“Dry your tears, young one, and listen well. On a midsummer’s eve, lay a baby boy, born to a simple family living in a prosperous forest far away from the city. They lived simple lives, inside a small cottage, and they were content with what they had.”

The boy remained silent, yet his ragged breathing echoed within the resounding halls of the temple.

“However, evil came towards the little boy and thine family, and behold, the boy watched in sorrow as his mother and father was burned in the house he had so cherished.”

“My family used to live in a cottage once…We were so happy there…” The boy hiccuped.

“For three days and nights, the boy tried his best to live in the forest. But, he could not adapt to the world that he was born in, for when his parents died, he lost the will to live.”

The boy did his best to focus, but the tears kept coming down his face.

“A few years later, the boy grew into a young adult, and here he lived, on the streets of Demacia, begging for food and coin.”

“I guess I’m kinda like that boy…” The boy murmured…

“But worry not, young one, for after another three days, the young boy came upon the sight of one of HIS, Followers: A Priest.”

The boy swiped away his tears, and felt comfort in the priest’s words.

“The priest took in the boy in his service, and thus, the boy began to rediscover his purpose. And, through his rediscovery, he learned 'His Will'.”

“I don’t understand…Who is HE?”

The priest knelt down and caressed the boy’s cheek lightly.

“He is 'The One:' the true creator of all beings in Valoran. He knows no hate, only love and guidance. And, His Will gives strength to those who believe…”

The boy sniffled as a few more tears fell down his face. “I want my family to be ok…We didn’t do anything wrong…”

The priest gently wiped away some of the boy’s tears.

“Young one, fret not. Through His Will, your transgressions are forgiven. Do not worry, for it is my duty to spread His Message and heal all of the Children he has placed on this troubled Earth.”

The boy grasped the priest’s hand with a tight grip. His young face was now streaming with tears. “How? How can one being stand up against many?”

The priest held the child in his arms and chuckled. In an instant, the child felt his sorrow fade away and his tears dry up. As the priest let go, the boy felt his hair ruffled by the priest’s hand.

“As my story goes, the boy did train with his brotherhood. Until one day, those that would raise up arms against our beliefs stood at our entrance. The priests' faith in His Will waned at the sight of their massive army. Yet, one young man stood alone, in front of the entrance of His Sanctuary.”

“Oh, no…D-Did t-they….k-k-kill….-“

“Ah, young one, you need not be so afraid. As the enemy charged at the young priest, he rose his arms in the air. He gazed up at the sky, his belief in The One stronger than all of the other priests, and he called out to Him to smite down His Enemies. And, in a blinding flash, the young man was the only one in front of the temple. The enemy was defeated, and it was his belief that saved His Children.”

The boy gazed in awe at the priest as he rose up. “With just….one shout?”

The priest turned his head to the boy. “Nay, it was not his shout that drove the enemy away. It was his belief in His Will that saved his brethren. As he stood up against those who would bring ruin to others. He stood alone when no other would do so. Only a true believer in His Will would be blessed by His Holy Spirit.”

The boy trembled as he stood up, and the priest swiftly helped the boy to sit on the base of the statue.

“Behold, my child, I bring onto you a message from Him. Although this World is imperfect, and there are times our faith in His Plan wanes, always remember His Love gives us hope where it is needed. He gave you your family, He gave you your home, and He gave you to me to protect you from the evils that plague this Earth.”

The boy couldn’t believe his eyes. His little body began to shake with joy and happiness as he looked up at the priest.

The priest gently placed the boy’s satchel back in his hands, and he folded them over the it. “Thus, He says onto you, use this coin to do goodwill onto your family, and when you come home, all members of your family will be well.”

The boy stood up nervously. He nervously uttered to the priest, “Kind s-sir, what happened to the boy?”

As the priest got up and started walking away, he stopped and turned around. “Why, young one. You look upon the same boy today.”

The priest slowly strode to the entrance to the temple. However, before he could exit, the boy knelt down and held up the purse in front of him. “P-Please, sir, I want to believe! I can n-never thank you enough for your kindness! This i-is rightfully yours! Please, teach me how to believe in His Will!”

The priest let out a cheerful chuckle, as he knelt down and placed his hands on the boy’s shoulders. The boy dropped the purse on the ground, and bombarded him with a tight hug. “Ah, my child, do not be quick to make rash decisions in his name. To do fully understand His Will, you must learn from my experience. Will you do that?”

“I will.”

“Will you give up your earthly possessions and follow Him?”

“I will.”

‘Will you stand against the forces of the darkness, even when you stand alone?”

“I will.”

“And, no matter what happens, even until the end, will you preach the teachings of His Will until the end?”

“I will!”

The priest gently put the boy down on the ground. He then removed his hood, revealing a young face, pure and kind, who smiled down upon the boy.

“Then, come with me, my young one. For, I, Julius, welcome all those who believe the power of His Will.”

9/7/2019 Made changes to Quotes, and Edits to ALL Julius Abilities to give a more engaging feel.

Arakadia9/9/2019, 3:50:52 AM1 votes

Hi Stacey! So I'll go in order of Julius's kit, but I have some more broader criticisms. Remember to take this with a grain of salt and if I suggest any examples, they are examples you don't have to make those changes.

Passive: Words of The One:

Unlike most projectile Mages, Julius does not fire out projectiles when he uses an auto attack. Instead, he uses the Words of The One to deal damage towards his enemies; making Julius’s basic attack unblockable and non-projectile. Julius cannot gain Bonus attack damage, but his base attack damage is rather converted into True Damage on-hit. Every (x) amount of seconds, Julius will open up 'The Book of Will' and flip through the pages to quote a scripture from it. (This page flip animation takes about 3 seconds to let Allies and Enemies know his passive is about to apply. Their should also be a visual indicator around Julius somewhere) Afterward there is a window of time where he actually quotes (Which is about another 2-3 seconds) From the time he begins to talk up to 4 seconds, Julius gains movement speed and attack range. His next attack during this window burns the target additional (Base Attack +AP) true damage over time.

Okay so you've got a lot in this passive. In concept, I like it. Its incentive for him to interact with the enemy. In execution however I think it is a bit too complicated. There is quite some clutter in this passive that you don't really need to include, maybe make them notes at the bottom if you still want to share them. I also would suggest making Julius's basic attacks function like normal until he uses Words of the One, at which point they are the direct/no projectile attacks as that would help to sell the effect as "extra powerful".

Anyways though there is some stuff I would flat out remove. An enchanter/support is not going to be building AD and does not have a reason to scale with it. I don't suggest having this spell be simply a true damage harass ability either. Traditionally enchanter supports have many supporting tools and all this ability does is give him a bit more damage in the form of poke.

The other thing is you don't need the 3 second delay. This ability isn't important enough to warrant a 3 second delay. If you want, there can still be an animation to indicate it being almost ready again, but there isn't a point in telegraphing a pretty basic poke effect.

Q Ability: Chastise:

Julius let's out a Condemning Shout which launches a in a long, narrow line (Similar to Lux, or Xerath), damaging all enemies hit and causing them to be heavily slowed.

Functionally this ability is fine. Its good that it ties into his passive, but it seems redundant to give Julius just another way to proc WoO (Words of the One) in a long range poke. You could fix this redundancy by making WoO combo with Chastise. Maybe instead of just dealing true damage WoO roots enemies who are slowed.

Thematically this ability is also passable. I would prefer you try to sell the whole "condemnation" idea behind the shout. Because what it feels more like is an excuse to explain some magical projectile that slows rather than a holy verdict that commands you.

W Ability: Word of Salvation:

Julius crys out (channels) a scripture of Divine Protection. Julius himself takes a small amount of reduced damage and has his movement reduced. This verse Shields all nearby allied champions for 5 seconds. If a 'Blessed' target's shield is destroyed, the ally is freed from Movement Impairing effects and granted a small boost of Movement for the remaining seconds. Julius can move during the channel, but can not use damaging spells, attacks or items.

This ability has so much tacked onto it that nothing really stands out. Julius gains a pointless damage reduction and self slows, then shields nearby allies. And then if the Blessed champion's shield is broken, they are cleansed but only from some CC, and gain movement speed. And also it takes 5 seconds. I would cut out the unnecessary so you can buff the necessary.

Champions have power budgets, and if you think about it like every champion is allotted 10 Power Budget Points, you have to distribute these Power Budget Points to each ability to give them value. If Chastise has really high damage and slow values, it might use 3 Power Budget Points. But if it is one of his weaker abilities, and the damage and slow is rather weak, then maybe it only uses 1 Power Budget Point.

What you've done here is split a few of these metaphorical Power Budget Points among like 5 different effects, meaning each effect is rather weak, unsatisfying, and doesn't stand out. If you have less effects on this ability, Julius' power budget is not divided as much and each effect can be stronger.

Something like this might be more interesting and clearly understood:

W Ability: Word of Salvation:

Julius chants scripture of protection in front of him in waves for 3 seconds. Each wave grants allies X shield. Whatever champion is currently Blessed gains the buff Unstoppable as well. Julius can walk but cannot attack or cast spells during this channel.

This is more concise and means the flow of incoming shields can be appreciated more.

E Ability: Bestow Blessing:

Active: Heals target for (X) (+ AP) and Buffs them with 'Blessed'; if they are not already affected. Innate: After activation, the targeted Ally is buffed with "Blessed" until another is selected or Julius dies. Blessed targets' have Healing and Shielding and Movement Speed from all sources further increased by (X)%.

This ability is fine. I don't think the bonus MS is really needed, it most likely will just be invisible power. Also maybe change the term to "Favored" or "The Blessed" as that would help convey that only one champion can be Blessed at a time.

I also think this is a chance to pump more character into Julius. Is he looking for a prophesied Blessed person? Maybe he picks disciples and bestows them with power before they burn out and die/he has no use for them? Perhaps those he saves become something more than they were before? This is an opportunity to make him more than just a fervent Demacian priest.

R Ability/Ultimate: Verse of Redemption:

Active: With his belief in The One firmly cemented in his soul, Julius enters a state of Divinity. Reciting a Redeeming a verse from The Book of Will in a Divine tongue. Enemies caught in range are slowed and will have their health redistributed to Allies. The potency is increased by Ability Power (+Heal and Shield Items)A 'Blessed' target also has a small Movement and Arrack Speed boost by a flat rate (doesn't scale) over the duration. It persist for 2 seconds after the Ultimate has ended.

I like this but there are things I would change.

First, your buffs for the Blessed could benefit from being more focused. The W cleanse and MS buff is more of a buff a melee might enjoy. While the AS And MS on Verse of Redemption is much more of an ADC buff. Versatility is good, but you also want Julius to have a specific purpose. I might suggest a different buff on the R.

The other thing is this ability doesn't sell any idea of Redemption. He's taking enemy health and giving it to allies. That is almost vampiric. Which leads me to my next point.

I think Julius has the potential to be a much more interesting character. Right now he's a solid mix of a generic Christian priest and a fervent Demacian priest. There doesn't seem to be much more to him, and for a character whose god is so important to him I would expect more about this god. Take a look at an existing priestess in League, Illaoi. We know a lot about her beliefs with her god, what her god values, and how her god directly plays a role in her powers. With Julius, we don't really know much about the One, or his relation to Julius, or what either character truly cares about. All we know is he is very much based off the Christian god and neither Julius nor the One like evil things, whatever that means.

So what can you do to take this character a step further, in terms of fantasy? Well when I saw this ability it immediately made me think of a Demacian preist character I designed (relatively poorly) a while ago. This ability almost feels like blood magic because of how it takes the enemies life and restores it to allies. What if Julius' had convinced the public (and maybe even himself) that his blood magic was holy magic? It would explain his ability to hurt enemies directly with his passive and manipulate his allies' health. What if we went even further, and his god, the One, was a darkin. What if Julius was searching for the perfect host for his Darkin god, keeping the facade of a righteous Demacian priest in the process? This is one path you could take, that turns him into a darker character for sure. Which you might not want.

Another alternative you could take, that doesn't have to make him a darker character, would give him a role to play in the currently very important Demacian civil war. Is he a mage? Does he like mages? What does his god think of mage? Can he benefit from this social change, or does he want to conserve Demacia's position on mages?

Either way you have some interesting ideas here but I would like to see you make this character his own in the world. Rather than "fervent priest, but in Demacia" think about how this fervent priest being in Demacia makes him different. How does he differ from "fervent priest, but in Ionia"? What can you do that brings intrigue to this character? We've seen characters like Julius before, and that is fine, but you need to be more convincing of his conviction and power. When he releases a Condemning Shout, I expect his enemies to be condemned. The way you convey that is up to you.

You've got a solid foundation and I've given a lot of feedback so I understand if it might be too much to act upon completely, but I hope its been helpful. Mostly, in terms of lore, I would like to see more about this One. Does Julius really understand the One? Is the One simply a misinterpretation of Kayle? Is the One a misinterpretation of Kayle and Morgana who make up a single Aspect?

Idea for Ult #1: After a moderate channel, A beam of divine light shines down on Julius. Taking him up into the heavens where he is untargetable. All Allied champions around him gain a MASSIVE Shield (I'm talking like 80 TO 100% of missing HP). Julius remains out of sight and untargetable for (x) amount of seconds. Before decending at the Fountain (No matter where he is on the map)

9/12/2019 I have an Idea for a new {E} Ability: [E] Castigate: Consumes silenced targets in an large area around [user]. Dealing a portion of their Max Health (+AP) True Damage.

Any thoughts on this?
