Rodric was imagined and designed before the whole juggernaut update but fits fairly well into the idea of a low mobility tanky damage dealer though his idea was originally as a tanky fighter type more than anything. Not to mention the fact that he fills what I believe to be a previously unexplored idea of a non-evil undead and a skeleton as well. Note I said "non-evil" not good, I don't believe there's really room in league lore for a good undead but it's still up in the air as far as I can tell. Appearance: Anyway, As he is a sort of fallen knight, lost to the taint of the Shadow Isles if not corrupted completely by it, he would appear as an armored skeleton with perhaps worn and rusted armor but a sword of surprisingly well keep quality. He would be imposingly tall and heavily armored, giving an idea to the physique he would have had while living and also would hint to what kind of style of play he'd be capable of. Sword and board maybe? or just sword? Most importantly is the kit; designed to be a fairly simple and straight forward play style he does have some combo'ing abilities and potential for high skill play I believe. Easy to learn, hard to master? This is where most of my work went into his design so let me know what you think.
Lore:
In life he was a Harsh man, some might even say cruel in how he sparred with and trained recruits but never so harsh as how he treated himself for he would never ask of another what he could not do himself. True to his word and always his vows, such determination would prove to be his downfall.
Born out of wedlock and deemed a bastard, Rodric always saw this title as a personal failure, as if the actions of his sire were somehow his own fault. Thus as he was half brother to the the man who would be king Rodric always strove to prove his worth in spite of this perceived taint; always pushing himself harder, to be more worthy of his bloodline. Ever close to his beloved brother Rodric saw it as a sort of purpose or even his duty to protect his brother and even keep his closest secrets, so that one day many years later when his brother was king it was only a small surprise that he was named captain of the royal guard who's sole purpose was to protect the king and his family with his very life.
However, one fateful night, as assassins struck and fatally poisoned the queen with a wicked blade, he knew he had failed at his only task. Set aside for his failure by Kalista for Hecarim, he spent much of his time brooding and berating himself for what he saw as a heinous failure, he became ever more cruel and forbidding. Till the queen died and Kalista returned he trained himself to suffering in penitence for what he saw as his own crime, so that when Kalista returned with the news of a possible way to save the queen upon the mythical Blessed Isles he begged the King to allow him to once more be by his side, swearing upon his sword and his life that he would not fail again and see that the queen be brought back to life or that peace be brought to her soul. His king, now falling down the long path of madness in his misery, in a moment of clarity granted him this boon as a final chance at redemption but with the condition that his soul be bound to the very blade upon which he made his oath. There was no hesitation as he accepted.
Weeks later upon the the beatific shores of the Blessed Isles, a calm of purpose settled upon him. Come the end of days or even death itself, he would see his king finally at peace. When brought before the inhabitants of the isles he set to his task; treating all else as a potential threat to the king. However when Hecarim reveled his true intent by betraying Kalista he knew it was an atrocity but stayed his hand for his king was not directly threatened and had not commanded him to intervene, all the while he writhed in internal agony at such an act. So that when the Queen was brought back, not as herself but as an affront to all living things, begging for true death, it was all he could do to not draw his blade and cut down the creature. When the King realized his error and in his sorrow he enacted a final spell to end both their suffering and their lives. There were many things Rodric could protect his king from, but Rodric could never protect his king from himself The storm of black mist that erupted from the spell as it was overpowered by the magic already contained within the island, washed over them all, ripping their lives from their bodies and leaving them as undead horrors.
When next he awoke upon the shores of the isle, he looked upon himself in the reflection of a tidal pool and saw that all the flesh had gone from his bones, leaving him an armor cloaked revenant. In his rage and sorrow at once again failing his king he took up his blade. Even in death he would not rest, for he still had an oath to keep; he would drive back the evil of the black mist, break the curse of the isles, and finally bring his king his eternal peace.
Stats: Health: 550 (+90) Health Regen: 9 (+.75) Melee: 180 Attack Damage: 54 (+3) Attack Speed: .635 (+2%) Armor: 25 (+3.5) Magic Res.: 30 (+1.4) Move Speed: 335
Abilities: Abilities cost health to cast. No Mana.
Passive: Soul Bound Blade: Damaging an enemy with Rodric's abilities or activating Ancient Crest grants a stack of Soul Bound (max 3 stacks) for 5 seconds, Rodric's next basic attack within this time consumes all stacks and deals bonus magic damage equal to (1.5/2/2.5%) Rodric's maximum Health per stack consumed. Rodric's damaging abilities also deal bonus magic damage equal to (1.5/2/2.5%) of his Maximum health (level 1/7/13).
A somewhat simple tank damage passive with fighter qualities to it, gated a bit by the fact that you need to hit your other abilities first.
Q- Sundering Strike: After a very brief delay (~.3 sec) Rodric slams his sword down in-front of him dealing 80/120/160/200/240 +(80/85/90/95/100% Bonus AD) physical damage to all enemy units hit. If cast after "Iron Bound" he instead launches rooted enemies into the air for 1 second. Cost- 35/42/49/56/63 Health Range- 600 CD- 5 seconds
A simple Bread and butter damage spell made not so simple with its interactions with the W. Doesn't deal the damage in a cone when cast after W though, but still damages.
W- Grave Digger: Rodric lunges forward a short distance stabbing ahead of himself, hit enemies take 60/85/110/135/160 +(50% bonus AD) physical damage and are rooted for 1 second. If cast after "Sundering Strike" he instead sends out a shock wave in a line that deals the same damage and slows struck enemies for 40% for 1.5 seconds. Enemies also hit by Sundering Strike take 50% increased damage from Grave Digger. Cost- 40/45/50/55/60 Health Dash Range- 350, Blade Range- +150, Shock-wave- ~800 CD- 13/12/11/10/9
A mobility, engage/escape ability with some CC on both types of its cast. Not really to be used for the damage. Second part is like a Leap Slam what Riven does but without the knockup.
E- Ancient Crest: Passive: Rodric Heals for 20% of the damage dealt by his passive (doubled for large minions, large monsters, and enemy champions). Active: Rodric Gains bonus resistances equal to (5/10/15/20/25 +(10% Bonus Armor/MR)) for 5 seconds and grants him 2 stacks of Soul Bound. No Cost CD- 18
Sustain tool plain and simple with a tank buff to it as well as an interaction with the passive. To be clear it "readies" the passive to proc not that it deals the damage independently. Also may need to adjust the heal numbers a bit. Numbers Numbers Numbers Numbers.
R: Wrath of the Fallen: Rodric Unleashes his rage, Igniting the area around him in a rapidly expanding circle to deal physical damage every half second for 3 seconds for a total of (300/420/540 +(240% bonus AD)) physical damage and ignoring all Crowd Control effects. During this time he is immobilized and cannot Attack or cast basic abilities save for Ancient Crest. This ability can be recast to end early and will end instantly upon death. Cost- 20% current health AoE Range- 600 CD- 120/105/90
The big AoE Damage, Yell Really Loud like it's an episode of DBZ ulty. Think of it like a cross between Nunu's ult but with the damage spread out over the cast like Fiddles ult. Also the expanding circle, think like the circle when Panthion lands from his ult.
Build:
Pretty simple here I think, focusing on Attack Damage, health, resistances, and cooldown reduction. An endgame build would probably look something like
and boots of choice with the classic top laner summoners spells like flash, ignite, and teleport and what not. Though he might even do well in the jungle given his innate sustain.
