Reworked Kayle Kit Suggestions
So there are already some great threads out there talking about Kayle's appearance, and I'm happy that they are getting some attention from Riot. I'm looking forward to what they're going to change. Hopefully she looks more like what the people want. This post, however, is about how I received her kit, how it felt to me as a player who plays Kayle as my secondary top pick, and what I would like to see done to her kit. I don't expect or demand these changes to be made, I just want to voice my opinion since this is a champion I enjoy, and wish I enjoyed the rework of more.
So first I'm going to go through her abilities and offer my opinions on them.
Passive: Divine Ascent I really like the idea behind this passive. Evolving over the course of the game is a cool concept, and it's tied well to her visuals what with the wings. However, something about this skill bugs me. I think I find it does too much, and I have a thing about skills that are too bloated. I'd like to see some mechanics shifted out of this, or just some streamlining in general done to this skill. Another issue I have with it is that her range is tied to this skill, and she doesn't get it until level 11. Part of Kayle's identity and appeal to me is that she is a ranged top laner. I understand that Riot wanted her to ascend into a fully ranged character, but starting out without her main gameplay hook feels really bad to me, and makes her feel less like Kayle. I think she should have range still at the beginning of the game, but just not with 100% uptime, increasing in uptime over the course of the game like how her current E works. That way she still becomes fully ranged, but her main thing isn't locked away until the game's half over. I like the ramping up of the Exalted buff, and that goes away when she reaches 16. I understand that it's an increase in power, but it actually makes the skill more boring. Instead of building up in strength, you just always have it, which is nice, but doesn't feel as satisfying imo.
Q: Radiant Blast I honestly don't think this skill needs any mechanical changes, I just personally find it kind of flat. It might just be the small visuals, but this skill just doesn't feel satisfying to use, and ideally I think it could be made at least bigger and more impressive visually just to add satisfaction to it.
W: Celestial Blessing I think this skill is fine too, and doesn't need changes, but I like her current W more for reasons I'll list below. I like that it can be used on multiple people, healing less individually but granting a much greater boost to movement speed. Only thing I'm sad about is that the individual healing power of this skill has been reduced, which means that although the effect of the skill is buffed overall, it's lost some of its OOMPH. A big fat heal on one person that can save them and sustain you in lane imo feels better than the overall power increase of dividing it between two people, but with a reduced heal. I would like to see this skill reverted for those reasons.
E: Starfire Spellblade Really don't like this ability. Imo it doesn't fit on Kayle, and doesn't feel impressive or fun to use despite being strong numerically. This skill I would like to see completely reworked.
R: Divine Judgement Love this skill. It was given a fun dynamic of turning around the fight for the ally in danger with a heavy damage effect, which is really nice to use. It made the existing skill more interesting, and I approve.
So now that I've put my views out there, below is my change wishlist.
Passive: Divine Ascent Kayle ascends through 4 forms over the course of the game.
Level 1: Zealous - Kayle's attacks grant stacking attack speed. While at max stacks, she becomes Exalted, gaining further increased attack speed.
Level 6: Aflame - While Exalted, Kayle gains increased movement speed towards enemy champions.
Level 11: Arisen - Kayle's attack speed while Exalted is significantly increased.
Level 16: Transcendent - Magic damage dealt by Radiant Blade is converted into true damage.
Q: Purging Flame Kayle thrusts her sword, creating a flash of purging flame that deals magic damage in an arc in front of her and in a line, leaving a flaming area that deals ongoing damage to enemies inside, reducing their movement speed and resistances.
W: Celestial Blessing Kayle heals a target allied champion and increases their movement speed.
E: Radiant Blade Passive: Kayle's basic attacks deal bonus magic damage, scaling with her AD and AP.
Active: Kayle becomes ranged for 10 seconds, during this time her attacks launch flaming waves in the direction of her target, dealing magic damage to all enemies hit. If activated while Exalted, the on hit damage is increased against her main target for the duration of Radiant Blade.
R: Divine Judgement Kayle makes the target allied champion invulnerable briefly, and after a cast time, rains down purifying swords around them to deal magic damage to enemies in the area.
