Lore

Name: Leila - the Crystal Scar Primary Role: Assassin Secondary Role: Mage Body Type: Female Race: Human Nation/Allegiance: Kalamanda Home Nation: Kalamanda Friends: Enemies: Swain Backstory/History:

Leila was a young girl, growing up in a mining family in the town of Kalamanda, she was soon to bear witness to a battle over her home. During her childhood a war erupted over her home, her and her family fled through the mines, trying desperately to escape alive, however, they soon became trapped, due to collapsed tunnels, and they were unable to escape, one such collapse killed Leila's father, and soon after, just days after the battle broke out her mother fell ill, and died as well, being an only child she had no other siblings, she was alone, underground and weak. Days went by, there was no sign of escape, but Leila began to realise that she was not getting weaker, but Instead, stronger, the magical instability had caused her to blend with the crystals on the walls of the tunnel, allowing her to not only control them, but bring them to her, and see them, wherever they were. As her newfound powers grew stronger, she found a way out, she became slowly able to transform other objects to crystal, as well as herself, each time she did it, it became easier and easier the next time, she would turn the rocks blocking her exit to crystal, before shattering them, slowly opening the tunnel. Upon seeing the light, she saw a piece of broken crystal on the floor, and picked it up, she then re shaped it into a sharp blade, and swore to kill whoever destroyed her town and family with it.

Abilities

Passive - Refinement

Upon killing units Leila refines her skills further, upon kills she gains stacks of refinement. She gains 1 stack for each minion kill, 10 for each large or epic monster kill, 25 for each champion assist, and 50 for each champion kill. For every 50 stacks, each time she casts an ability, it deals 1% AP as bonus true damage per 50 stacks to marked enemies (her q on impact does not count, so will not trigger this passive, for the same reason it doesn't add up damage for her ult, see below, likewise, enemies caught in the area around the marked enemy when w is cast are also not affected by this, but the marked enemy it is cast on is affected). Stacks cap at 1000, so the max possible bonus damage is 20% AP.

Q - Crystal Mark

Cooldown: 8 seconds Cost: 80 mana when casting a new mark, 20 mana for each subsequent cast

Throws a crystal in a target direction, if it hits an enemy, it marks them with a crystal mark which lasts for 3 seconds and deals 30/50/70/90/110 (+20% AP) magic damage on impact. If it hits an enemy the cooldown is changed to 0.5 seconds. Whenever a marked enemy takes damage from Leila, the 3 second timer resets. If Leila uses q when she has an active mark, it shoots the existing mark in a target direction from the existing marked enemy, not from herself, dealing 20/50/70/90/110 (+20% AP) magic damage to the enemy it launches off, and again to the enemy it hits, if the enemy the mark launches from is killed by this ability, the mana cost is refunded. She can only have one active mark at a time. If the mark deactivates, the cooldown is reset to 12 from the point when it deacivates, it is deactivated when: the 3 second timer runs out, the enemy with the mark on them dies, Leila dies, the mark misses an enemy, Leila uses her ult.

W - Fragment

Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 seconds Cost: 40/50/60/70/80 mana

Leila commands her mark to spin after a short delay, dealing 40/70/100/130/160 (+60 % AP) magic damage to the marked enemy. It also causes fragments to be sent out in a small radius around the marked enemy. Enemies in this area take 1/2 the magic damage of the marked target. If Leila is within the small area around the target, the marked enemy takes double damage, and all other enemies (except the marked one) hit by the fragments are stunned for 1 second. If this spell kills the marked enemy, Leila can cast her q within 1 second to move the mark from the former marked enemy, without losing the mark.

(This ability cannot be taken at lvl 1)

E - Crystal Attraction

Cooldown: 20/18/16/14/12 seconds Cost: 50 mana for first cast, 100 mana for second cast

Passive: The marked enemy is always visible to Leila and her team. The marked enemy also is 40% slowed when moving away from Leila, but gains 20% movement speed when walking towards her.

Active: Leila dashes to the marked enemy, dealing 90/120/150/180/210 (+100% AP) magic damage and silencing the target for 1.5 seconds. This ability is placed on a 1 second cooldown, and can be used again within 6 seconds before going on the full cd.

(This ability cannot be taken at lvl 1)

R - Shattering Blades

Cooldown: 60/50/40 Cost: 150 mana

Passive: The marked enemy has 40/50/60% reduced magic resist and armour.

Active: Leila commands her mark to shatter, dealing 100% AP plus 25/37/50 % of all the damage dealt to marked enemies, while that mark was active (on any enemy), as magic damage, to the current marked enemy, which also consumes the mark. (damage dealt by her q on impact does not count, as the enemy is not marked when it hits, however, the damage dealt when it is transferred away does count, as the enemy was marked when the damage was dealt). If this ability kills its target, the cooldown of Q resets to 2 seconds.

Explanation of abilities

Passive: Leila's passive allows her to deal more damage on all her abilities by simply killing units, this allows her to scale very hard into the late game, as once her passive is fully stacked, she deals 20% AP bonus TRUE damage, which amounts to a very large amount of damage if used correctly.

Q: this is her only skillshot, it has a fairly long range. It is imperative that when playing Leila, q hits an enemy as much as possible, as it can be very punishing to miss one, basically the q marks an enemy which allows Leila to use her other abilities in them to deal some proper damage. Missing a Q can be the difference between winning a baron fight, and ending the game, and losing it, and losing the game, despite being her least damage dealing ability, it is by far her most important, and form a development point of view, is the first ability I thought of, before building the rest around it.

W: this ability allows Leila to deal very large amounts of damage if used correctly, and can be a useful tool in teamfights as well, due to the stun, however the stun would be hard to land all the time, as Leila must be nearby, and you also rely on the enemy being in close proximity to other enemies. If Leila is nearby, it deals double damage, so scales hugely with AP, and combined with her passive, can deal up to 140% AP as true and magic damage.

E: the passive on this ability can be both beneficial and annoying to Leila, as it actually buffs the enemy if they walk towards her, however this can be overcome by moving the mark to a different enemy. It also helps her catch escaping targets, and allows her to chase down fleeing targets easily. The active allows her to quickly dash to the mark wherever it is, allowing her to close the gap. It also can be cast twice, so can be used to engage, then escape if the mark is moved back, to an enemy minion in a safer place.

R: this ability allows Leila to truly assassinate squishies, as it can be used simply to one shot an enemy if enough damage is built up, this is what makes losing the mark punishing, as losing a mark means you will have to build up the damage again. However in team fights it would probably be more useful at the end, to kill off stragglers, though it could be used in a variety of ways, from finishing someone off, to one-shotting the enemy adc.

Play Style

I would see Leila as an AP assassin. Her kit revolves heavily around her q, which is her only skillshot, but if she can't land it where she wants, her damage is virtually 0. Her main tactics in the laneing phase, are to launch 1 q, and move it around minions, as the minion is about to die, move it along so as not to lose it, and you will get the cs as the mark deals a small amount of damage when it leaves the enemy, so killing the minion. This stacks up damage dealt onto the mark, so when she does hit lvl 6, if she can transfer the mark to a champion, it already has a large damage base to use. Because of this tactic to build up damage on minions before transferring the mark to a champ, then ultimate, it can be very punishing when a mark is lost, as not only is it 12 seconds before another can be used, but also, all the stacked up damage for her ult is lost. During the laneing phase a good tactic to poke is to have your mark on a minion, before moving it to a champion, using e, then using your w to get the double damage, before casting q back to a minion, and then using the second cast of e to retreat back while you wait for the cooldown of your e. In teamfights, you would want to have already built up damage on your mark, though this may be difficult if moving between lanes, as the reliable way to move the mark around is on minions, so at, for example a baron tf, you will most likely want to cast q onto an enemy , try to deal as much damage as possible onto them using w and e, then, if they are low enough, move the mark to another champion, possibly ignite the first one, and then ult the second, if the first champion isn't low enough to die from the team or ignite, it may be best to ult them to secure the kill. Also, to avoid losing the mark when the enemy with it on dies, it is a good idea to get an enemy low, then use w to get the kill, as this does not destroy the mark, as it would be if the enemy dies any other way. Because of this problem of losing the damage stacked on the mark when leaving lane, it would be best to avoid roaming until mid/late game, and avoid going back while you have an active mark, trying to use r to kill the lane opponent before backing is a good idea, as it uses the stacked damage to secure a kill, and the stacked damage is not wasted.

Build

For runes I would take Magic pen marks, scaling health yellows, and scaling AP glyphs, with flat AP quints. For masteries I would take 21/0/9, and I would take flash and ignite summoner spells.

I would build Leila full AP taking sorcerers shoes as my boots, and rushing deathcap first, before following up with a full AP item build.

First I would take Q as, well, you don't actually have a choice, at lvl 2 take W as this allows you to deal some large damage if you can get into range, at lvl 3 take E, as this makes it easier to land the double damage on W. First max W, as this is the largest damage dealer, if you can get the double damage. Max E by lvl 13, and max Q last, taking R wherever possible.

Counterplay tips

  • Be aware that she relies heavily on her mark, if she can't hit you, she can't kill you!
  • When trying to all in remember she has lots of escapes, if there are your minions behind her, she can q e to retreat back.
  • Be aware of her passive, if she is low, try to anticipate where she will blink to.
  • She has no wave clear, push the lane!
  • If she hits you with q, try to back away under turret, and be aware of her e, as if she uses it, it will silence you, and you will have a hard time getting away due to the passive on her e, you can snare or stun her mid dash to stop her, but this would be hard to do. -If an ally is marked, stay away from them, as her W can stun you if you are close enough to them when she casts it, and she is also in range.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading, and I'd love to see your feedback on the ideas.

First, I hope you realize that "the crystal scar" is the name of the dominion map, right? It would be like calling Maokai "the twisted treeline"

So from reading her abilities this is how I would play her: item 3065item 3157 item 3158 item 3165 item 3089 item 3116

Possibly opting for more defense. I'd put q and w on smart cast. Land a q, dash to the target (like lee sin) then just spam qwqwqwqwqwqwqwqwqw. The 40% cdr from my items will put q/w on .3/.6 second cooldowns and should give me tankiness to not get burst down. Finish it off with my ultimate and run away. She has no cc and no escape unless there is an enemy for her to q-e to. And honestly her passive will probably never save her.

I can tell you put a lot of effort into her but she is just not thought out very well.

Changed passive and w based on feedback, to reduce the impact of CDR and tankiness together, as well as giving her a useful passive
