Apollo, God of Sun (A new Solari champ)

Hello everyone, today I’m presenting Apollo, a new solari champion that will be played top/mid. He is a battle mage and he is a solari. Leona is the only champion that is attached to Solari and we have seen a lot of Lunari champ recently. Diana, Aphelios and Zoe are attached to the Moon and this poor Leona is becoming alone.

I wrote everything from Appearance, Gameplay, Story, Quotes and Characters Traits. There is a lot to read but if you are uncomfortable with reading a lot, you can only read the parts that look interesting to you.

APPEARANCE

Apollo looks like a 20 years old boy, but he is way older. That’s because his power makes him eternal. He doesn’t age. His skin is tanned, and he is beautiful. Apollo is one of the most beautiful male champs in LOL because first, he is the sun god and in Greek mythology, Apollo was the god of beauty, sun, music… So, he must be beautiful and hot asf. He is muscled but not too much, his body is perfect at every inch. I know its cliché, but we need more sexy boys in LOL. Sett, Ezreal, Taric, Garen, Shen aren’t enough xD.

Thank I found a perfect picture on a game of what he would like (Elora’s Raid). It’s inspired me a lot. This picture is probably what come the closest to what I want. I will focus on the small differences. First like I said, his skin will be tanned because he is the sun god after all and for me it’s strange to see someone loving the sun but being pale and white.

I’m not saying to make him black but a little bit more tanned would be great and more corresponding to someone who took a “sun bath”. Before worshiping the sun, Apollo was a Lunari. So, he was white because he worshipped the moon, his skin was pale because he was living the night and sleeping the day.

But with the sun, his skin tanned a little bit. I want this because it’s important to show that he has changed. Becoming a Solari and exploiting the sun power modified his skin a little bit. He isn’t black because even with a lot of sun, your skin can’t become totally black or white (it’s depend) but it’s can become tanner or whiter than it’s was before.

Otherwise his boots are cool, his pants too, I like the “bow” thing on his chest because in the mythology, Apollo used to fight with a “bow”. Here he won’t fight with a bow because we are not in the Greek mythology and there is already a lot of people fighting with a bow, but I find it cool because it’s a reference.

The other small element but it’s my personal taste would be his hair. You can see he has long hair even though it’s not what you see first. But we can see his ponytail. It’s like Ahri. At first, you don’t know about her “ponytail-braids” behind her. I’m not a big fan of long hair, I prefer short hairs on boys because it’s hotter in my opinion (personal taste). But it’s not a big deal and if you guys prefer him with long hair, then I’ll keep it. But yeah there is some similarities with Ahri. At first on the artwork, you don’t realize her special “braid” which is strange to me. I would prefer Ahri without this braid and with her hair detached but like I said, it’s pure personal taste. He would still look hot and sexy, so I don’t care about it.

GAMEPLAY:

Role:

Apollo is a tanky ranged top laner, like Urgot. He must poke his opponent and he can tank a lot of damage. He is a battlemage specialized in DPS and tankyness. He doesn’t have burst or high damage. His damage is mostly medium compared to Cassiopeia or Ryze who can deal a pretty good amount of dmg with a spell rotation. Apollo don’t have their dmg, but he is way more tanky and he has a crazy healing spell. He is also a good pick vs AD champs because he has a lot of “sight reduction” CC.

His main spell is his W, which cost a lot of HP but he has a self-important healing to compensate. His gameplay is simple, but you will feel all the power of the sun! He is designed for longs trades. The more it’s last, the better he gets.

Stats:

HP: 700 + 81 per level AD: 55 + 2,5 per level AS: 0,675 + 3% per level Move speed: 335 HP regen: 8 + 0,9 per level Armor: 36 + 4,25 per level Magic resist: 32 + 1,25 per level Mana: 250 + 25 per level Mana regen: 4 + 0,5 per level

Passive: Sun light

Apollo auto attacks and spells apply a burning effect that last 4s. The burns deal a small damage but also reduce the enemy sight because the light from the sun is blinding. Damage: 0,5/0,75/1/1,25% of the enemies max HP per second + 1% every 75 AP. (lvl 1/6/11/16) Sight reduction per second: 2/2,5/3/3,5% (act like a Quinn Q effect but in a less effective)

The sight reduction stops when the burns is finished. But if Apollo keep attacking and resetting the dmg, the sight reduction will continue and it’s possible to reduce the enemy sight to the point of making his screen black.

Spell A: Solar eruption

Apollo invokes the sun power; he starts glowing for 1s and then he shoots a fire beam (acts like a laser). This spell is like a Taric E. He can move during the cast time. The fire beam blind the enemies hit for 1/1,25/1,5/1,75/2s.

Width: 350 Range: 550 Damage: 60/90/120/150/180 + 5% of Apollo max HP + 5% AP magic dmg. CD: 8/7,5/7/6,5/6s Mana cost: 40/45/50/55/60

Under “Illuminated (the final step of W)”: Apollo gains a shield depending on the number of enemy’s champions hit with the spell. The shield can last 4s. 80/100/120/140/160 + 10% of Apollo max HP per enemy champ.

**Spell W: Ritual of the Sun: **

Apollo draws a vortex of flames from the Sun around him. He can stack the Vortex up to 5 times. Each stack renews the duration of the Vortex and make him bigger stronger but also increase the HP cost per second.

First activation: Apollo light his chest. The initial vortex is created. It’s a small vortex around Apollo (350 range) and it’s deal 10/12,5/15/17,5/20 + (1% of Apollo max HP) magic dmg per second. The vortex last 6s. The HP cost per second is 1% of Apollo actual HP. For example, if Apollo has 3000 HP and the spell is maxed, it’s will deal 20 + 30 = 50 magic dmg per second. It’s low but it’s normal. It’s only the first step of the vortex. Apollo gains 20% spell vamp.

Second activation: Apollo light his right arm. The vortex deals now 15/17,5/20/22,5/25 + 1,25% of Apollo max HP magic dmg per second. The HP cost is increased to 1,5% of Apollo actual HP. He gains 20% tenacity. (Stack with the spell vamp effect)

Third activation: Apollo light his left arm. The vortex grows to 400 range around Apollo. The dmg is 20/22,5/25/27,5/30 + 1,5% of Apollo max HP magic dmg per second. The HP cost is increased to 2% of Apollo actual HP. The tenacity is increased to 30%.

Fourth activation: Apollo light his right leg. The dmg is 25/27,5/30/32,5/35 + 1,75% of Apollo max HP magic dmg per second. The HP cost is increased to 2,5% of Apollo actual HP. Apollo gains 10% move speed.

Fifth activation: Apollo light his left leg. The vortex grows to 450 range around Apollo. The dmg is 30/32,5/35/37,5/40 + 2% of Apollo max HP magic dmg per second. The HP cost is increased to 3% of Apollo actual HP. The move speed bonus is increased to 15%.

Sixth activation: Apollo light his head, finishing the ritual. The dmg is 35/37,5/40/42,5/45 + 2,25% of Apollo max HP magic dmg per second. The HP cost is increased to 3,5% of Apollo actual HP. Apollo gains the effect “illuminated” because his whole body is covered in gold light. His other spells will have new effects.

New activations reset the sixth activation. After 6s without new activations, the vortex disappears, and Apollo will have to redo the entire ritual to get the sixth activation.

CD: 3/2,75/2,5/2,25/2s between each activation CD after the last activation and if the vortex end: 14/13/12/11/10s Mana cost: 5/7/9/11/13 per activation. HP cost: In the description of the spell. It’s varies between 1 to 3,5% of Apollo actual HP.

Spell E: Healing flame

Apollo cleanse the fire from the enemies hit by the burn but heals himself for a high amount depending on the number of enemies hit and the type of enemies hit (champions/monsters or minions). He also cleanses the sight reduction. This activation downgrades the level of the Vortex of flames by 2. There are 6 levels on the vortex from 1 to 6 like you discovered in the W description. If your Vortex is level 6 and you activate E, he will be downgraded to level 4 (but you can re-upgrade him to level 5 and 6 with your W). If your Vortex is level 1 or 2, he will disappear, and you will have the long CD of 14/13/12/11/10s.

Heal: 100/150/200/250/300 + 8% of Apollo Max HP per enemy champ. 50/75/100/125/150 + 4% of Apollo Max HP per monsters. 25/37,5/50/62,5/75 + 2% of Apollo Max HP per minions.

Active CD: 8/7,5/7/6,5/6s Mana cost: 40

Under “illuminated”: The heal is increased by 20/25/30/35/40% and the activation only downgrade the Vortex by 1.

**Spell R: God of sun! **

Apollo summons a big ray of sunlight from the sun on the map for 15s. The ray reveals a zone (same size as the tower attack zone) by offering pure vision. Apollo can control this ray and move it anywhere he wants.

If Apollo is inside of this ray of sun, he will gain “illuminated”, even if his Vortex of flames isn’t stack to 6. The sun ray deals the passive dmg.

CD: 140/120/100s Mana cost: 100

STORY :

A long time ago, on the Mount Targon lived the Lunaris, a people worshiping the light of the moon. They lived peacefully and exploited the power of the moon to live. They were sleeping the day and escaping the rude light of the sun, only working the night when the night star showed up. The Lunaris were the first inhabitants of the Mount Targon and believed in the healing power of the moon. The light was softer, soothing and even some of them believed that this light could heal the wounds faster. The sun light was showed as dangerous, harmful and destructive.

They could transfer a part of the Moon light to some stones, called “Moonstone”. Every hundred years, someone was designed to come down from the mountain and trade it against a pearl from the ocean. This pearl was mean to be offered to the moon as a sacrifice to thank her for giving the light they needed to live.

The great chief of the tribe was a man named Auberon. He was the ancient scorn of the moon. He had two children’s: Apollo and Selene. One of them was destined to become the next scorn of the moon. He would receive the true power of the moon and lead the tribe. Usually, the Lunaris chiefs only had 1 child, to prevent jealousy from destroying the family. Here, the mother had given birth to twins. To solve the problem, Auberon thought it’s was a great idea to decide before they grow who would lead the tribe. He decided that Selene would be the next chief because she was a girl and he wanted his daughter to be the first female chief of the Lunaris.

The tribe didn’t object because the Lunaris were respectful people and treated women’s equally as men although they never had a woman as chief. But Apollo wasn’t really satisfied with this decision. From early childhood, Selene received a favor treatment. She had more attention and gifts than him and everyone in the Mount knew her and loved her. Auberon was caring more and more about his daughter and left Apollo alone with his mother. Years passed by and the mother died from a strange disease, but it’s wasn’t contagious. At this moment, Apollo was completely forgotten. His sister was spoiled with all the love of her father while her brother had nothing.

Apollo praised the moon to give him some love, but his calls were unanswered. The relations between his father and him became harder. They began to contest; Selene watched them and didn’t understand her brother reactions. Forsaken by everyone, Apollo decided to leave the Mount Targon. He discovered other civilizations and people and all of them were living on the day. The sun light was the one to make the plants grows. Apollo discovered a new flora he never has seen before.

He learned to live the day and started to like the Sun. This ball full of fire looked more sympathetic compared to the cold moon. He even started to search a way to get the Sun power. There was a vessel for the Moon, but nobody knew if one existed for the sun. Apollo wanted to become this one. His jealousy toward his sister made him hungry of power.

He started to search for some kinds of rituals to praise the Sun power. He found a temple in the middle of Kumungu jungle. Some drawings were inscribed in the walls and they were related to the sun. The people of the temple tried to have the sun power, but they died because this power was too strong to hold for them. The sun could be cruel sometimes. Nobody had succeeded to hold his power but the one that would be able to do it, would have more powers than the moon.

Apollo decided to be sassy and returned in the Mount Targon. He wanted to be appreciated by the sun and he needed to do his ritual with a different way. The others have failed but Apollo believed that he would succeed. Under the moonlight, he entered in the main town where he lived before. People were looking at him suspiciously. His skin was tanned by the sun light and he had a red sun tattoo on his chest. This day wasn’t an ordinary day, it’s was supposed to be the coronation of the new scorn of the moon but also the birthday of the twins. Selene was going to become the new scorn of the moon. But Apollo interrupted the ritual.

He started to talk in front of people, and he saw his father and sister. He explained everything about the sun, and he told his tribe that the moonlight was the reflection of the sun on the moon. The moon is a dead planet and the sun was the reason the plants were living. Most of the Lunaris were shocked and disapproved Apollo saying. His father was angry and told him that he was the shame of their family. Apollo felt a huge anger inside of him, but he knew they was going to react like that. He wasn’t surprised and even smiled with some arrogance. Some of them was surprised and wanted to believe Apollo but they stayed quiet.

Apollo laughed and put his arms toward the sky” The moon is a lie; join me and praise the sun, if you don’t, I will kill all heretics that are still praying the moon because you are insulting the sun” he replied. The Lunaris were shocked and the soldiers started to hold their weapons.

_ “Are you crazy? It’s nighttime! The sun is sleeping, you have no power!”_ said Auberon

His father was in a rage. Alongside of him, Selene was standing. She didn’t understand what happened. Auberon told the soldiers to kill Apollo. Apollo begged the sun to give him the power, even though it’s was the night. He wanted to destroy all the Lunaris and put an end to this moon worship. His opponent wasn’t taking him seriously because they thought they had advance since it’s was nighttime, and the moon was glowing.

But the sun answered and appeared in the middle of the night. The Lunaris saw the big ball of fire, standing alongside the moon. They were scared and they didn’t understand what happened. The entire tribe stopped breathing when they saw this unusual event. The nighttime disappeared because the light of the sun was more powerful, and it’s outshined the moon. It’s was a day that appeared in the middle of the night.

Apollo was shining with a powerful spirit inside of him. The sun was talking to him. He felt this power, spreading in his veins. He was illuminated by the pure light of the sun. His iris became red with a flame reflect. His arms and his legs were glowing and blinding the ones who looked at him. Apollo raised his arm and a solar eruption came from the sun. The Lunaris saw the fire comet heading toward them and tried to run away but they couldn’t escape. The blast killed a lot of people.

_ “Believe in the sun and you won’t be harmed” he told them. “This may be your last chance to join me. If you don’t, I will kill you. No crimes must go unpunished.”_

Some people decided to change their minds and rejoined Apollo side. They wanted to live and after this strength proof, they thought the sun was better than the moon. Auberon couldn’t believe his son had the sun powers. He headed toward him, preparing for a duel. Selene was hiding behind a rock, she was scared.

Auberon dashed and reached Apollo. He put the sword in the belly and thought he had killed him. He had dashed very fast, but it’s was useless. Apollo didn’t feel any pain. His belly closed and the wound disappeared. Auberon didn’t understand what was going on. Apollo grabbed him by the neck and looked at him, his eyes full of fire.

_ “Father look how pathetic you are! Your pitiful and insignificant power can’t match the power of the sun. Now it’s time for you to die…”_

Apollo hands were burning with the power of the sun. His father face was roasted. His skin was peeling off until the bones showed. When Apollo released the body, it’s was a skeleton, black and burned. Then, Apollo created a vortex of flames around him. He destroyed the rest of the Lunaris that didn’t wanted to join his side. His sister was the last one to stand. She was scared and he walked toward her with a smile on his face.

_ “Please, spare me brother_, she replied. Only if you join my side sister. Become a servant of the sun and I promise I’ll let you live. You will even become my right-hand. “

Selene didn’t want to join the sun. She refused the offer and Apollo looked at her with a severe face.

_ “Are you dumb? I destroyed everything, there nothing left of the Lunaris. The sun is the only star that deserve to be worshiped. Look at my power, sister! I can destroy the entire world with this. Our stupid father couldn’t stand against me. Do you really think you have a chance to stand against me? You are nothing now, you lost everything. But I can make your life great again! I can even make you my right-hand as I said! After all, you are my sister. But if you dare to reject the sun, if you dare to decline my offer, I will kill you like I did with the others. Are you sure of what you said sister?_

Selene started to cry, but she refused. She got up and looked in Apollo eyes and told him that she will never join him. She loved her father so much and she wouldn’t stand to live with a man that killed her family. She preferred the death instead of the dishonor. Apollo was enraged, he shouted at her and then, he walked toward her and took her by the neck. She died the same as her father.

That how’s the Solaris were born. The old Lunaris that survived du to betraying, started to worship the sun and called themselves Solaris. Apollo guided his tribe and now, they were living the day and sleeping the night. The Mount Targon started to change. Plants were growing on the mountain because people used the light of the sun to make them grow. They learned a lot of thing they couldn’t do because of the nighttime life, most of this was inspired by the other cultures that Apollo have seen. They destroyed most of old artefacts like armors or monuments that was made to honor the moon and replaced them by other artefacts for the sun.

The years passed, Apollo was given immortality and his appearance was the same as before, the one of a young 20 years old man. The sun was so powerful compared to the moon and the Solaris started to think about all those years when they were living on nighttime. They changed their minds and started to despise the moon. Only a small number of rebels were still Lunaris inside of their heart but most of the population changed and were not anymore simple traitors, they became pure servants of the sun.

When Apollo realized his people were perfectly self-ruling, he leaved and rejoined the sun in the space because a god shouldn’t live with humans. Legends don’t really know where he has been, but everyone knew the sun was watching them and they still followed the Solaris way of life. Apollo lived inside of the sun for many years and was watching the people of the Runeterra until a new threat appeared. A new threat for the Solaris that Apollo thought he had exterminated.

A new scorn of the moon appeared, Diana. An innocent and pure girl was given the power of the moon and wanted to restore the peace between Solaris and Lunaris. At the same time, another girl named Leona, for an unknown reason, received the Sun power too. Apollo looked a Leona and was surprised. Why this red-hair girl received the power of the sun, he was the only one who could use it but now, another girl could use it too? But he was confident because he thought Leona would stop Diana and reestablish the Solaris order. He was watching Leona and he finally realized that she wanted only to help Diana to restore the peace.

” What a traitor! How she dares to betray the sun? Apollo enraged.

He decided to come back on Runeterra to search Diana and Leona and destroy them. This time, he needed to act.

“Everyone who mess with the sun, will face my anger!”

Let’s set an example for all the traitors who dares to defy me! I could destroy your planet if I wanted, do you realize your power is insignificant compared to mine?

Get killed: What? Impossible! I can’t get killed, no way! Arg, you will pay for this! The humanity is going to pay for this outrage!

To : The moon is powerless, it’s a big ball of stone with no glow or life. The sun is living with an ardent fire! And this ardent fire will kill you Diana! You offended me Diana, and for this, you will pay with your live! Prepare to die! Your arrogance will set your doom Diana! I won’t spare you! You won’t escape from me, I’m here to kill all the ones like you! I will send all Lunaris to hell and you will be the first to die! Any resistance is futile; your power is ridiculous compared to mine! I can feel your fear Diana, you are facing a god and you are only a poor mortal. I will slay all the Lunaris, Diana. I will purge them all with the sun fire. No one will escape me!

To : How you dare to waste the sun power like this? Show a little bit of respect you silly girl! Leona, you disappointed me! I don’t understand why the sun gave you powers but I will take them from you! You are not worthy of them! I was hoping you would kill the Lunaris, Leona. You betrayed the sun and you will pay for this! I’m mad at Diana but even more at you Leona. You are a traitor and I will show no mercy towards you! I need to do all the job by myself. Alright, I will do it. After all, if you want something done right, you must do it yourself! I will erase the Lunaris and you too Leona, because you betrayed your own people! You may have sun powers Leona, but they aren’t big as mine! Now, face your doom! You will die by my hands, the hands of a god!

To : _Silly creature, you think you can kill gods? We are legendary and we rule over your world. You need to know you place, insect! You are a pathetic and worthless insect. You will die by my hands! I’m unstoppable, invincible and you will fear me like the mortal does! Enough of this, be purified by my flames. I will send you in hell Aatrox! You are a nobody who thinks he can beat gods and It’s time to go back to reality, kid. Go back to your mother before I put an end to your miserable life! Bow down to me and ask for my forgiveness or die with atrocious sufferings!

To : So, you are supposed to be the war? Fine, I’ll put an end to it! You want to stop me Pantheon? Hahaha, you are funny. What kind of fool dares to stop the Sun god? You will perish by my flames! You want a fight Pantheon? Alright, let’s fight! I hope you will shout “This is Sparta” when my hands will go through your chest and grind your heart until only ashes remains!

To : I will eradicate you and all the Lunaris that are remaining on this planet! Five weapons and no one of them work against me, you are useless! Your faith will fade as fast as your miserable life! Prepare to die! You are wrong to worship the moon. Look at my power and realize how dumb you are for defying me! All heretics like you will perish at my feet by my powerful flames!

To : Another Lunari, time to die little girl! I will not show any mercy, even if you are a little girl. Your presence is offending me; I will kill you for that! The moon won’t protect you Zoe, she has no power compared to the sun! I will make you a favor since you are a little girl. How do you prefer dying? Burned, roasted or strangled and charred? You choose!

To : I haven’t allowed you to stop your work Aurelion… You want to rebel? Hahaha, silly cosmic dragon. Go back to your work! You better not offend me, otherwise I will reduce your life to nothingness. You will make the sun bigger, and if you don’t want, I will force you! You have many stars, many planets to build and you won’t stop until it’s finished!

To : Ornn, my friend, how are you? Your legend is a very interesting story comrade. Ready to fight Ornn?

To : An Empress? Hahaha, I’m a god, girl! You have an empire? I have a Galaxy! Your use many elements but you don’t master them Qiyana. Look at me, I master the full power of the sun and I can reduce you to ashes!

To : An Emperor? Hahaha, I’m a god, boy! You have an empire? I have a Galaxy! The sun is warmer in the desert. You should appreciate his heat because you are privileged compared to other places.

To : A king? Hahaha, I’m a god, boy! You have a kingdom? I have a Galaxy! Does the Demacians praise the sun too? I hope so…

To : As long your religion doesn’t praise the moon, I won’t prevent you from preaching your god. Let’s see what your god have, Illaoi!

To : Moonstone? Ug Nami, your people are so primitive… There is no more Lunari and if you continue to search for them, there will be no more Marai too.

CHARACTER TRAITS:

After all this reading, you probably wonder I made Apollo evil. In the Greek Mythology, he is supposed to be the kind god, the one that is adored by humans, the great Apollo who protect humans and bring the light on earth. He was also known for his “healing” power and his music/dance passion and we all agree that what I made is a very dark version of this Apollo.

Why I made him evil? Because he would be boring if he was kind. Also, we needed to explain how the Solaris destroyed the Lunaris. How can you explain the disappearance of Lunaris? They were on the Mount Targon and lived peacefully. Apollo is evil and he want to destroy the Lunaris to gain the sun “favors”. Then he learned how to control the sun and have power on him. He is a “hungry power”.

Apollo isn’t a god but a normal human that received big powers and immortality, making him “a god”. He isn’t supposed to be wise, kind or something. It’s would have been “cliché” to make him kind and everything. But he isn’t the pure evil too, despite he could kill children’s if they are praising the moon, Apollo is open-minded about people like Illaoi who are praising other gods, as long they don’t praise the moon.

He also guided his tribe and helped them to get resources they never had before. His wish isn’t to conquer the world but to make the sun respected, even if it’s too extreme. It’s the extremist villain. The one that has extreme ideas about something and don’t want to change of point of view. He believes the sun is the only way to live and his will must be respected otherwise he kills people. It’s bad, it’s evil, but it’s the concept and it’s suit entities like “Gods, Demons or Preachers”. These kinds of people tend to act like this when they are extreme.
