Jarrold (Champion Idea)

Jarrold is intended to be a marksman. His passive ability, "Added Weaponry", increases his attack damage for a short time after killing an enemy unit. His 'Q' ability, "Security", sets down a trap that gives true sight until used. His 'W' ability, "Secret Passage", drills a secret tunnel into some terrain that lasts for a few seconds, allowing nearby allies to pass through before the tunnel collapses. His 'E' ability, "Broken Path", shoots a heavy projectile that plows through the ground, dealing physical damage to enemies that are hit and slowing enemies that travel through the projectile's path. His 'R' ability, "Calling Traitor", temporarily marks a targeted enemy champion as an enemy to his ally champions, minions, and turrets: the targeted champion can harm and can be harmed by his ally's abilities and attacks, and his ally minions and turrets will attack him.

Jarrold is the lead Demacian in ferreting out Noxian spies, and has been sent into the League of Legends to ascertain if Noxian spies have infiltrated the League of Legends under the Demacian name: his primary targets are Sona Sona and Vayne Vayne . The other members of the Demacian Council have tasked him with this mission.

"In our eternal forward march, we must stomp out evil all across Valoran wherever it may grow. Leave no stone unturned: the roots of one ignored weed will inevitably corrupt the whole of the garden.”

What about Caitlyn Caitlyn . One of her abilities is solely a trap. What I am proposing by Jarrold's trap is the same as an upgraded trap of Caitlyn's. So, again, how is a trap lame? Let alone doubling as a sort of sight ward? Now you say "Because the trap does nothing else. Guess what, nidalee's hunted shows stealthed units and she doesn't miss an entire spot on her kit for it. Lee Sin's Q + E show stealth, he doesn't lose an entire useful skill for it. The trap is LITERALLY only a mobile pink ward, so he uses an entire skill shot to...get a 100 gold item." well, to me it does not look like he is losing an "entire useful skill for it." Then, have you ever heard about "Demacian Justice"? Because if you have not, you need to play more games than reading the lores. Also, as ultrainventor stated "isn't it possible that they could have done something questionable or rumors skewed" do you really think that rumor cannot be exaggerated over time? Seriously, I want a yes or no answer to that question. Stop trying to tear my idea down y don't u. If you have a better idea, I would be overjoyed to hear it, but constantly insulting my idea is just plain rude. Some people like it, and some people do not; I can see you do not, but you have no right to try to tear it down either. Constructive criticism is fine, but pointing out any possible problem or issue that you see without offering a way to fix it... what is that supposed to be? Let's see if this person responds well to destructive criticism?

There are a lot of champions that seem to duplicate another champion's ability, so you cannot really say that I am trying to be like a bunch of other characters, I am just posting a good idea for a champion. Additionally, it is a trap that lasts for a short amount of time, however, that does not mean it can just be destroyed. Caitlyn's and Nidalee's traps cannot be destroyed, so why should Jarrold's? As for his 'W' being a temporary Rek'Sai tunnel, for one, Jarrold's ability can only be used on terrain, for another, as stated, it does not last like Rek'Sai's, also, allies could travel through before it closes. If you do want to compare Jarrold's 'Secret Passage' to Rek'Sai's tunnels, then you should also compare it to flash, Tryndamere's 'Spinning Slash', Lucian's or Ezreal's dash, and the other ones that can pass through terrain. Then, yes, Jarrold's 'E' is similar to Kog'Maw's 'E', however, but there are other's with similar abilities to it as well, so saying it is not 'original' in one way or another is a little pointless because there are similar ones. For example on repeats that only deal different types of damage, like what you are having a problem with now, is Tristana's Ultimate and Graves' Ultimate. As for the lore, I understand that you refuse to accept it, but that does not mean it cannot be believed by others despite what you believe, and if RIOT does not like it... it is only a lore, and can still be changed. And you are right, I do not mean to make a hate mob, but I really do not appreciate it when you so rudely disagree, for a couple examples: "The trap is LITERALLY only a mobile pink ward, so he uses an entire skill shot to...get a 100 gold item.", and "And no, that is literally retarded.".

I already explained about Jarrold's trap: "What I am proposing by Jarrold's trap is the same as an upgraded trap of Caitlyn's." so yes, it does deal damage, and yes, it does not have the full sight of a sight ward, and yes, it can be dodged or used up when someone walks over it. As for your 'undestroyable' mix-up, have you ever tried to destroy Caitlyn's trap without having to walk through it, like with a sweeping lens? That trap truly is an undestroyable trap... until activated. I have also already explained Jarrold's 'W' ability: "As for his 'W' being a temporary Rek'Sai tunnel, for one, Jarrold's ability can only be used on terrain, for another, as stated, it does not last like Rek'Sai's, also, allies could travel through before it closes. If you do want to compare Jarrold's 'Secret Passage' to Rek'Sai's tunnels, then you should also compare it to flash, Tryndamere's 'Spinning Slash', Lucian's or Ezreal's dash, and the other ones that can pass through terrain." Then, for Jarrold's 'E' ability, you actually have a pretty good idea about reducing armor and magic resist. It is like combining Kog'Maw's 'Q' and 'E' abilities, but still, it is a good idea. Next, I have also addressed your opinion on the lore I have come up with: "As for the lore, I understand that you refuse to accept it, but that does not mean it cannot be believed by others despite what you believe, and if RIOT does not like it... it is only a lore, and can still be changed." Finally, you asked how you were being rude, so I will explain it to you. You have been calling all of my ideas nothing but stupid and/or plagiarism of other champions the entire time. I already understand what you think of this champion, and I already know that there is nothing I can do to change your mind. But trying to kill my ideas is rude, even if you did not do so with such ferocity. With what you are saying and how you are phrasing your words, you might as well be screaming at me saying I am stupid. Additionally, when you say so many negative things about my idea, because it is my idea and I want others to know about it, I have to defend it, but then you respond with more negativity, and this just keeps going on and on. This has become an argument because I will not stand down trying to defend and promote my ideas, while you will not stand down trying to tear my ideas down. You do not like this idea, but at least be courteous enough to allow my ideas a chance to be known by others.

How is a trap that lets you see twitch and shaco bland? and isn't it possible that they could have done something questionable or rumors skewed? Sona was adopted, so maybe she didn't accept their ways fully, and Vayne is seeking revenge? isn't that a bit against the "ideals" of Demacia?

Lord Dusteon12/29/2014, 3:33:46 AM1 votes

First, the lore is really bad. Demacia doesn't operate on "I think these royal families bound to us who fight for us constantly are traitors". In addition, they DEFINITELY would not assume the mute musician who live sin Demacia or the person who has literally dedicated their life to hunting out evil would be traitors; they have some standards of not being retarded.

Second, all of his skills seem really bland and eh until you get to his ultimate, which is almost entirely useless unless the enemy team is trying to troll that person already. At best his ultimate would be used to get turrets to attack them, which if you dived to mark them would already mean the turret is trying to hit you, not the target. In addition, the ONLY way this could be even somewhat used would be on a tank who dived (so his own team's AoE hits him) or on someone recalling (though base turrets should ignore this, as getting a 1k damage per hit turret on your recall spot is really poor design for anything).

For the Q...how is that rude? It is the exact description of the skill: He uses a slot of his entire kit to get a short term, undestroyable pink ward. That's the entire skill: he gets a pink ward for Q. It doesn't do damage, it doesn't help him survive or kite well; it's just a short term pink ward. if it's undestroyable, it's broken (oh look, he has permanent true vision in an area. Guess we can't gank him without a teleport) while still being really weak (he doesn't get any form of damage, survivability, self buffs, or real safety. He gets a pink ward).

And yes, if your trap gives vision it should either be destroyable, or extremely transient vision(such as Shaco's Boxes/Teemo Shrooms. They both give vision, though only in a short range, can both be destroyed by either walking over them (dangerous, but it does destroy them) or using a pink ward/red trinket to see and destroy them. For transient, think Caitlyn/Nidalee traps; they only give vision for a very short time when placed, followed by giving vision if they are activated. This allows people (even though they can't really destroy the traps) to dodge them, which gives them some counterplay).

For the comparisons, the point is these all seem like weaker versions of another champ's kit. His W is basically a Rek'Sai tunnel that anyone on his team can use (for the only used on terrain, that's almost the only time Rek'Sai uses her tunnels; for an escape that requires wall hopping for others to follow or to jump right onto someone. It's almost always used through terrain to begin with). While it's useful, it's only really good in a few niche cases (you got trapped in baron/dragon pit, you got trapped in their base after a dive). Overall, outside of the niche cases it's kinda eh. It could be used for a teamwide flank, but other champions have more powerful forms of that (Sivir R, Sona E, Nami R, Talisman of Ascension (for an item that does this)). Overall, it just seems rather specialized (while specialization isn't BAD (Sivir is a great AoE short range carry, Vayne is a lategame carry with extremely short range), making it to specialized is; you want a skill to be only somewhat niche, not extremely).

For the E, you're making an entirely new champion. Try to make things more unique, or at least a bit more different than another champions skill with the damage type changed. At least add something to differentiate it; make it an actual shot (think an actual ranged system like Rumble R/Viktor E), or have it lower armor and/or magic resist, or something (note, these are ideas. I'm certain there are many greater ones than those). If your skill is literally a copy paste with the damage type changed there's little reason to consider the champion you copied/the champion you made unless the rest of their kit is greater.

...not really sure why'd you choose to compare graves R + Tristana's R. One is an AoE giant burst, one is a semi large magic damage that knocks back any champions in the AoE. Other than the AoE existing (which would make any AoE skill compared), they are nowhere near similar.

Not really sure on a good direction for the lore, but the current one is highly unbelievable (and since most of the people who pay attention to the lore either read it once and then ignored it or followed all of it they can, that's pretty huge. The people who ignore it will continue to not really care, and the people who follow it will point out all the problems they can notice (if you checked after Amumu's updated lore hit PBE there was instantly a thread about how it didn't tell anything new about him).
