Before you do anything, please read this. I'm aware that some people will be viewing this thread. If you're coming here, please tell me what you think of it. If you're here to read the concept, I'd like you to leave 100% honest feedback. I can take it, trust me. If you have any suggestions that will aid in character depth, or to balance their stats or skills, let me know. Thanks.

** *All similarities to other champs are coincidence and your paranoia getting to you. :P **

Padlock is a crowd control heavy tank, designed to disrupt the enemy team, and provide a great asset to any team fight.

Lore:

"He has surely forged the world's finest weapons. Time will remember him well." - Zilean, The Chronokeeper

On the outskirts of the city state of Demacia, hidden deep within the mountains of The Great Barrier and shrouded by the widespread of trees, a small pillar of smoke rises to the skies. From the tree line, a small light flickers faintly. There, contented in solitude, lies the quaint house of the noble and kind-hearted, once great forger of Demacia; Padlock. To the residents of Demacia, the smoke smoldering from the forest does not cause alarm. No, Padlock's smoke resembles a beacon of safety. A source of strength and security. The weapons master is hard at work, forging weapons for the armies, to help protect them, and their state. But one fateful day, the renowned pillar of smoke disappeared from the skyline. The citizens of Demacia grew anxious, uninformed of what had happened to their beacon. It was on the day the smoke died out, that the Summoners of the League of Legends arrived.

The summoners, hastily headed toward the blacksmith's forested hut, making their way through the dense forest. Upon reaching the blacksmith's cabin, they found a very weak pillar of smoke escaping from the chimney and the door to the hut ajar. To their dismay, the hut was empty. The smoke flowing from the chimney were the last remnants of the dying fire that lay kindling in Padlock's forge. Among the walls hung the weapons of the greatest warriors, bathing in the light of the fire they were once forged from.

"So.. You've come for me, have you?" uttered a booming, noble dwarfish voice from the shadows.

"Padlock.. The Institute of War is in need of your skills. Demacia is in need of a great weapon to prevail over Noxus, once and for all." the summoners replied, staring into the darkness.

A silhouette slowly emerged from the shadowed walls of the hut. As the light of the flames slowly illuminated the shadow the figure stood, feet planted before the Summoners. Standing well above them in stature, with a blacksmith's hammer in his right hand and a large anvil fixed to his back, stood Padlock.

"If you're in need of a weapon, you'll receive no greater than I. Let me fight.. one last time. For Demacia."

Possible Quotes:

""If you're in need of a weapon, you'll receive no greater than I. Let me fight.. one last time. For Demacia."" -- Padlock

"My weapons will one day bring peace and harmony to Valoran." -- Padlock

Appearance:

http://i.imgur.com/w3g8uYt.png ((Splash currently unfinished!)) ((A special thanks to FarahBoom for this awesome splash art!))

Padlock takes the appearance of a half-human, half-dwarf hybrid. Though chiseled with the symbolic facial features of a dwarf, his body and build are that of a human's. Though he lacks hair on the top of his head, his face adorns a full, deep red dwarven beard that cascades over his booming chest. His body type is a muscular build, and looms over people with prominent height. His attire consists of your standard medieval blacksmith attire. In his hand, he wields a mighty hammer. The hammer that has forged the many great weapons of Demacia, and strapped across his back, his trusted anvil.

Padlock's basic attacks are punches with his free hand and side swipes with his blacksmith's hammer.

Padlock's critical hits are mighty downward and upward swings with his hammer.

Ability Set:

Anvil's Mark (Innate):

Padlock's abilities apply stacks of Anvil's Mark for 10 seconds.

For every Anvil's Mark the target has received, their damage is reduced by 1.5% / 2% / 2.5% against Padlock and Padlock's damage is amplified by 1% / 1.5% / 2% respectively.

Upon reaching 5 stacks, the target's damage is reduced by 7.5% / 10% / 12.5% against all sources for 2 seconds and all allied champions damage on the target is amplified by 5% / 7.5% / 10%.

The scaling of Anvil's Mark increases at levels 11, and 16.

  • That means for Anvil's Mark 1-4, the damage amplification and reduction applies to Padlock, and Padlock alone. Once the 5th stack is reached, the amplification/reduction applies to Padlock, and all allied champions.

Taste Steel (Q):

Padlock hurls his anvil forward in a target direction, dealing physical damage to all enemies it passes through and slowing them for 2 seconds.

If Taste Steel collides with an enemy champion, the anvil bounces off the champion, stunning them for a short duration, before returning to Padlock, reducing the skills cooldown by 40%.

Padlock can also pick up the anvil to reduce Taste Steel's cooldown by 40%.

Range: 675 Missile Speed: 1150

Damage: 70 / 95 / 120 / 145 / 270 (+100% bonus Attack Damage) Slow Percentage: 30% / 35% / 40% / 45% / 50% Stun Duration: 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 seconds

Mana Cost: 70 mana Cooldown: 8 seconds

Hammer Clash (W):

Padlock strikes the anvil on his back with a mighty swing of his hammer, sending out a reverberation in a 550-radius around him, dealing magic damage to all enemies in the area and slowing their movement speed for 3 seconds.

If Padlock does not have his anvil, he will instead throw his hammer toward the anvil's location sending out a larger reverberation in a 600-radius around the anvil, dealing a reduced amount of magic damage but slowing the enemy's movement speed for an increased percentage.

Damage: 85 / 125 / 155 / 185 / 215 (+65% ability power) Slow Percentage: 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40%

Reduced Damage: 65 / 105 / 135 / 165 / 195 (+60% ability power) Increased Slow Percentage: 30% / 35% / 40% / 45% / 50% Throw Range: 750

Mana Cost: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 mana Cooldown: 10 / 9.5 / 9 / 8.5 / 8 seconds

Flailing Anvils (E):

FIRST CAST: Padlock takes his anvil off his back, and starts channeling for 3 seconds, spinning in a circle. Padlock can move while channeling, but cannot attack or cast his other abilities. Over the first 1.5 seconds of the channel, Flailing Anvils' range and damage will gradually increase every 0.5 seconds while his movement speed is slowed by up to 50%.

After the 3 seconds, Flailing Anvils will cancel and half the mana cost is refunded.

SECOND CAST: After a brief cast time, Padlock throws his anvil with great strength to target 375-radius location, dealing magical damage and stunning all enemies in the area. The anvil remains at the target location for 6 seconds before disappearing and reappearing in Padlock's possession.

If Padlock does not have his anvil, he will instead leap a set distance toward the anvil's location.

If Padlock lands close enough to pick up his anvil, he and all allied champions in a 625-radius around him gain bonus armor and magic resist for 2 seconds.

Minimum Damage: 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 / 120 (+25% ability power) Maximum Damage: 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+65% ability power)

Mana Cost: 90 / 95 / 100 / 105 / 110 mana Cooldown: 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 seconds Range: 750 to 950.

Jump Distance: 500

Armor Bonus: 10 / 11.5 / 13 / 14.5 / 15 (+12.5% bonus armor) Magic Resist Bonus: 10 / 11.5 / 13 / 14.5 / 15 (+12.5% bonus magic resist)

  • Flailing Anvils' damage is increased by 20 every 0.5 seconds respectively.

Into the Forge! (R):

Padlock tosses his anvil in to the air, and with a mighty swing of his hammer, strikes the anvil forward in a line toward a 375-radius area, dealing magic damage to enemy units and knocking them aside. Enemies units in the 375-radius area, are dealt additional damage and are briefly stunned for a short duration. The anvil remains at the target location for 6 seconds before disappearing and reappearing in Padlock's possession.

Pass-Through Damage: 150 / 225 / 300 (+50% ability power) Radius Damage 200 / 275 / 350 (+75% ability power) Stun Duration: 1 / 1.5 / 2 seconds

Mana Cost: 110 mana Cooldown: 130 / 115 / 100 seconds Range: 1000

  • Into The Forge! can ONLY be cast when Padlock has his anvil.
  • Into the Forge! also removes the anvil from Padlock's possession, his other abilities may be used.

Skin Ideas:

Padlock's appearance changes to a more apocalyptic look, losing some of the hair on his beard, and braiding it into three points. Over his eyes, he styles a pair of protective goggles, the light of flames flickering off them. Though his general attire stays somewhat similar, they are darker and more ratty. Last but not least, his anvil is replaced by a giant, mobile forge, and his hammer comes adorned with heated stones and crystal inlays.

  • Big Band Padlock

Padlock's appearance changes to a less rugged look, cleaning up his beard and replaces his general attire for a typical, yet stylish marching band outfit. His anvil is replaced with a marching band drum, and his hammer with a bass drumstick.

Any other suggestions are welcomed!

Tips and Tricks:

  • Playing as Padlock:

    • Anvil's Mark is the key to efficiency in team fights. Applying as many marks as you can to as many champions is optimal. But remember to stay focused.
    • Always remember where you anvil is. Simple awareness makes and breaks good Padlock players.
    • Into the Forge! followed by *Taste Steel is a great way to engage a team fight.
    • Building Padlock as a heavy tank is optimal. Padlock needs to be in the middle of the team fight to maximize his potential.
  • Playing against Padlock:

    • Avoiding Into the Forge! can cause Padlock's engage to fall somewhat short.
    • Keeping away from Padlock and his anvil in team fights will limit his passive.
    • Kiting Padlock as much as possible, will reduce his damage output, and limit his stacks of Anvil's Mark.
  • Playing with Padlock:

    • Padlock is a great initiator, so make sure to follow up after he starts his engage. Don't let him go in alone, or his passive won't be able to be applied quick enough and he'll get focused out.

Speech and Hotkeys:

Padlock has a deep, booming, noble sounding voice with a slight dwarfish accent. (So.. basically a deep Scottish voice!)

Upon Selection: "In need of a weapon?"

Upon Starting a Match:
"I fight for Demacia.. one last time." "Time to show you my greatest weapon."

Attacking: "Did you feel that one?" "Hammer time!" "Just like hitting my anvil." "Let me dent that armor for you." "A perfect strike!" "Another precise swing."

Movement: "Not so fast.. this anvil's heavy.." "I knew I should have packed a lighter anvil." "For Demacia. One last time." "Forge a path to victory." "Let my forge light the way." Padlock breathes heavily "I'm going!" "This anvil's getting heavy.." "One day, this land will see harmony." Padlock breathes heavily "I'm moving!"

Taunt: "Come a little closer.. I'll get the dents out of your armor for you.." Padlock hits his hammer into his open hand twice. Padlock scoffs "Your weapon looks to be poorly crafted." "You're a waste of precious metal."

**Taunting an Enemy Braum **: "A shield for a weapon? What an insult to my craft." "Come Braum, let me craft you a real weapon."

Joke: "Whoops! I forgot to take my iron pills today!" Padlock removes the anvil from his back and begins nibbling on the edge. "Don't forget to take some extra.. IRON today!" Padlock laughs to himself as he lightly taps his anvil with his hammer.

Upon casting 'Taste Steel': "Taste my steel!" "Anvil, coming through!" "Time to pound out some dents!"

Upon casting 'Hammer Clash': "Clang!" "Are yer ears ringing?" "Just like thunder!" "BOOM!"

Upon casting 'Flailing Anvils': "Time to spin!" "Wh-whoa!" "Time to get dizzy!"

Upon unsuccessful cast of 'Flailing Anvils': "Whoa.. too much spinning.." "Got a little too dizzy.." "Anyone else hear birds chirping..?"

Upon casting 'Into the Forge!': "INCOMING!" "FORE!" "HEAD'S UP, ENEMIES DOWN!"

Dance: Padlock swings the anvil around from his back, onto his chest and begins to play it like a marching band drum. While doing so, he also does the typical march back and forth in a small circle.

Upon Death: Padlock falls backward, landing on his anvil and dropping his hammer, letting out one final yowl before rolling off his anvil and landing face first onto the ground.

Like I said, I am open to any sort of ideas on balancing them, and such. So PLEASE leave your input.

And in payment for your feedback, please feel free to leave your OWN ideas, so that we can help each other.

Well put together, but I can't help but feel that his kit seems very meh.

To me, the kit seems very straightforward. So much so that it seems too straightforward. Recent new champions from Riot have had some very fresh interactions with self kit, teammates, and enemies. This is largely in part to very conditional abilities, which seems to be lacking here. Probably the most interesting part of the kit to me is his innate ability, which happens to be a passive.

I'm not saying it's a bad kit, I'm trying to say it could be better. As is, it seems that we are to dash in (Q), use slow (W), and spin (E) which will result in a delayed stun (which is almost guaranteed if slowed) . Use ulti (R) if they are surrounded by people to give a clear dash path. Outside of that, I wouldn't see any other reason to rotate spells differently.

I also don't feel particularly excited at any point of the process that I will do something AWESOME. Probably most exciting part would be the stun at the end of E (which seems very generic). I'm aiming for that feeling you get when your Yasou and duck and weave til you have 3 stacks for a tornado, then blast it out with an ulti to go into OMGWTFBBQ mode and start dumping dps. Or that feeling you get when Braum jumps to the front and blocks everyone's ultis in a teamfight. Unfortunately, I just don't see that feeling anywhere in the kit.

Most champs also have a defining skill that sets them apart, and it usually rocks to use it. With this, it's definitely his ulti 'clearing a path' to a target by knocking everyone aside. While this is good in itself, it doesn't seem great to me. Seems like it's missing something. Maybe it needs something to reinforce the idea of knocking everyone aside? Or maybe the clear path idea? Maybe just reinforce the idea of knocking everyone aside by flinging the a further distance. I'm not sure what to do here, but it feels like it needs something more as his defining feature.

Some thoughts I thought I'd leave, hopefully it helps.

I logged in to up vote this. I definitely would play him. That said, anyone who is from Demacia is a friend of mine.

SheiButterSquare11/2/2014, 1:06:07 AM2 votes

I think it would be interesting to add DoT, single target isolation, and pick up mechanics to his ultimate.

Hitting the anvil with his hammer should super heat it, adding a short burn effect to everyone it hits.

In addition, the anvil will 'catch' and carry one person with it from the time it hits them for the distance it travels and root them briefly once it stops.

Anyone remaining within a radius of the anvil will have the DoT refreshed until the anvil disappears or until Padlock picks it up.

Which brings me to the final addition. Like a Thresh Lantern, Padlock can click on his anvil to pick it up and reduce the cooldown by a small amount.

Side Note: I feel like the magic damage on Flailing Anvils should be moved to Blacksmith's Charge. And the physical of Blacksmith's Charge to Flailing Anvils. Not talking the numbers, just the damage type. His hammer seems like the magical part of the character more than the anvil. Especially in his alternate skin.

Necrophagism11/1/2014, 6:52:12 AM1 votes

i agree with @asdbnmrty , seems like the ult is definitely iconic, but the other abilities are generic. i would say to make the swinging ability less like sejuani and make it like he puts down an anvil that's a physical object that gives armor to his teammates and vision. he can toss it in brushes and stuff

Tainted Erection11/1/2014, 9:39:02 PM1 votes

i dont think he should be a hybrid. it would be cool to play a Dwarf. or atleast have a skin as a Dwarf. :P

Rustfire11/1/2014, 9:51:04 PM1 votes

Aside from what's already mentioned, this looks like an amazing champion. Tweak the skills a bit, but otherwise he's good. His lore is solid and his taunts and jokes make sense. I particularly like Braum 's taunt. Keep up the good work!

Sincerely, Rustfire

i had some confusion that clouded my perception of your champion, and you cleared you cleared it. The thing that made me confuse him for a forge was the awesome forgefire skin, my bad. But seriously, he's a really good champ. I had suggest any additions I might say possibly infuse some of his refining ability like you have in the passive into 1 of his active abilities. Possibly his Hammer Clash, where the sound of his hammer inspires allied champions so their critical hit ratio is increased, if they were within range? IDK but i felt that it could possibly be cool if one of his abilities could have a refining character to it.

Shamont11/16/2014, 3:01:59 AM1 votes

You have probably already thought of doing something like that and decided against it because he already had the refining passive so my idea is probably dumb and doesnt apply
