[BUG] "Go to Comment" Doesn't Work on Big Threads

I'm not sure how to reproduce this as it's relatively intermittent, but it seems to happen most often on large threads, almost guaranteed on huge ones. When looking at a thread's new comments by clicking the New button on the main page of a board, clicking "Go to Comment" will frequently pull up the OP and no conversation at all under it. Here's a bulleted repro:

Be in Discussion View.
Find a thread with a New icon.
Click the New icon.
Find a new comment and click Go To Comment.

You will be rerouted to a page that just has the OP and no comments below it. You can click Return to Full Discussion and it brings you there, but you lose your place and all New posts are considered read. I am aware this has been talked about a lot and has existed for months, but I figured I would write it in the current format as per the sticky.

We were able to reproduce the issue and have added it to the bugs queue. Seems like something to do with the way the 'Go To Comment' link is functioning in the 'New' view.

i would like to think long standing in game bugs are more important that bugs on the boards but i guess not

They are not mutually exclusive. This is pretty misguided, and it's a bit saddening that you immediately decided to take a passive aggressive tone when you are misunderstanding how development works.

Do you really want a team of web developers trying to reprogram the game client? I certainly don't.

apparently bugs arent bugs

all i want is rioters to respond to actual important bug report threads instead of shit ones like this that dont do anything to help league

OK, let's try wording this differently. Web developers have nothing to do with in-game programming. Getting angry at Rioters that are working on the Boards for not working on the game client is like being pissed because the concept artists aren't fixing the servers.

I understand your frustration, but put it in the right place. You aren't going to accomplish anyone by asking people not involved in something to fix it.

I've noticed this usually happens when the comment is beyond the "show more" option. I can imagine there's a hiccup when the URL for the comment is to a 'hidden' element.

That sounds feasible. This brings up another concern/question, however; this also happens with Rioter comments on these threads. If it's due to comments being hidden behind Show More, why are Rioter comments being hidden like that?

As far as that specific case I'm fairly sure because, for all intents and purposes, Rioter comments are just regular comments with a Riot tag. Now once you pull up something like the Rioter Rundown it brings up all the comments with said tag, but as far as the 'show comment' feature goes I think it's just because they're not coded differently in the foundation.

This being said I also only really know the surface layer coding (CSS elements and such) and even then not too well, so take any of my 'expertise' with a healthy sized grain of salt XD

If it is in fact the case that Rioter comments are treated no differently on the platform, that both makes sense and doesn't. It matches the Boards team's apparent philosophies (Rioters are players too, don't want to seem eminent), but I feel like players are always going to want to see Rioter posts displayed with at least moderate importance. It seems weird that developer comments can be hidden in the same was as your average player's comments, especially when it's possible that they are important and just hidden.

I would argue that's being done via features like the Red tracker and Rioter Rundown. Of course there are times when those aren't feasible (i.e. not enough red comments to activate rundown), but there are more ways to apply importance to Rioter comments beyond treating the comments themselves differently.

It's more about visibility rather than importance. It seems that things the community might find relevant shouldn't be hidden behind Show More in threads, regardless of whether it's a Rioter comment, a heavily upvoted player comment, etc. My assumption is that players may put Rioter comments ahead of most things in order of what they desire to read, so hiding that behind Show More seems counter-intuitive.

While I agree, there's also the concern of clutter. Without the 'Show more' feature cutting threads of comments, one thread will dominate over all others. Inversely, making select comments an 'exception' will still lead to comments being entirely too front-loaded imho. Where these exceptions are seen before anything else.

Personally I would like a comment system similar to Imgur's (minus the character limit), where all comments in a thread except the first, parent comment and then the user can follow a conversation via the conscious choice of maximizing. The parent comment would have the metrics of the resulting threads in it, i.e. "35 children, 5 Red Comments". Of course this would also produce a lot of invisibility to unexplored conversations, there's always a trade-off when it comes to limited visual real estate we're looking at.

Cutting threads makes sense, but it can be truncated in more intelligent ways. Let me see if I can make a visual representation, this might look awful...

Here we have 1 OP, 3 comments, 3 comments nested within each comment, and 5 comments nested within each of those comments. A total of 58 comments, reasonable for a thread. Looks kinda complicated, but hard to follow.

This is extremely aggressive in how it's hiding posts and obviously there's a lot of variability like what's upvoted and such, but this is general premise I'm going for. Here's how it's organized:

-- Rules --

Rioter replies are always shown
Upvotes are calculated, above a certain threshold highly upvoted comments are always shown

-- Logic --

Topics are visible if there is a nesting inside them
If a topic goes beyond 2 singular nestings (e.g. a back-and-forth conversation between two people) all subsequent topics are hidden behind Show More
Comments on a string without nesting are hidden behind Show More

I'm not sure if this makes sense or if I'm totally off my rocker, I'll elaborate when I'm less busy.
