Actual examples of why these boards are so stupid

We can always argue in theory as to why these new boards are so god damn atrocious, but let me give some examples.

  1. Every time you make a new thread, in the back of your mind, you're always trying to emulate the popular ones out there. If you don't to make a hype post, the result is that usually, it doesn't matter what you're doing, you could be asking what 1+1 was or suggesting- your thread will end up with 0-2 posts and die.
  2. Because of reason #1, the quality, type, content of threads created are becoming groteseque'd. You cannot get any attention unless your thread is a top ten thread. Go to the NEW section of a few sub-forums here and you realize the existence of problem #1. On most forums with a traditional most-recent-post layout, at least the threads you read have some meaning to them. Now, due to problem #1, the quality of non-top 10 threads has went below bronze to plastic.
  3. This new forum only sustains popular threads. Not that it's a bad thread, but how long has the "It's time -you- listen riot" thread been around? It's a good thread, but wow has it been up there for some time...
  4. Facebook, Reddit, Twitter style posting, my god, if I wanted that stuff, I'd go there.
  5. And is it just me.... or am I unable to message a riot employee/moderator who posts here? This is obscene. It's like modern art mentality, we're going to improve the look of this and completely forget about fundamental stuff. How do you just end up forgetting about MESSAGING capabilities?

And let's take a poll for the hell of it.

OH! So let me explain: Unless you forced everyone to change the sort style to "new", these boards would not be "fixed". At all. And if you forced everyone to switch to "new", then you may as well switch back to a normal set of forums.

We have Hot, Best, New and Recent sorting I don't think publicity is the problem here tbh.

The problems imo are:

  • The lack of proper thread tracking by not giving us pages to contain all threads.
  • The lack of connection between Chronological and Discussion view making it somewhat hard for the 2 crowds to properly communicate while not completely messing up the comment section.
  • The fact that Discussion view is always a giant orgy of nonsense when a heated discussion is on the table, which is rather counter intuitive to the name of the view setting.

I think the problem is easily solvable.

.: 1.) Use their "easy to see/access" team and rearrange some shit, redesigining how a red-post is visible. .: 2.) FORCE the default viewing of the boards to be like a typical forum that replies/bumps are what keep a post on top, while having one button allow to reorganize the posts from "Most votes to least" (and reverse if pushed again) like the default is now.

Having a "new"/"recent" organization doesn't make very much sense to me, and like you said making the high votes default makes the boards turn into a popularity contest instead of expressing an opinion (and those that do, are pushed to the bottom rather immediately).

They should probably also add more boards, like a board where players can post ideas that don't have to do with champion balance, the boards, or skins.

The problem is that default sorting is not chronological.

99% of viewers won't bother changing the sorting, and the default sorting happens to be the worst possible choice.

change default sort from ,,hot" to new. Problem solved
