Why did you decide to make the timestamp code repeat in the text itself?
I mean I can do things like
[{quoted}](name=Riot Sweet,realm=NA,application-id=bzRrPGQO,discussion-id=oOJGXBnK,comment-id=,timestamp=1996-10-10T00:35:01.662+0000)
- This is a demonstrative example and in no way should be taken seriously: but the truth of the matter is that I am a cupcake.
And that's kinda silly.
Also, it doesn't actually show up in previews which is a sad.
- If the quote / reply is made in Chronological view it will transfer (properly threaded) into Discussion view
But... what if I reply to multiple people in the same post? Will the same post exist multiple times in Discussion View, under each reply that it belongs to?
Because imo the biggest asset of having a functional quote and reply system is the fact that you can respond to multiple people at once, which significantly reduces the size of the thread for anybody in chronological view.
- Visual updates to make it clear and less obnoxious
And also harder to tell if something is in a quote as opposed to having both manual and formatting-based indents. Wasn't there a discussion earlier about how quotes should be somehow highlighted?
I maintain, as I have always believed, that simply stapling chronological features onto Reddit (which is similar to what has been done here even if that is not at all how it came about) is a terrible way to manage a forum.
It spawns tons of one-line comments that do nothing but make the people using vbulletin-view have to read tons and tons of nothing, constantly loading extra pages (which you can't open in multiple tabs still, WHY, exactly was that decided?!); and the people using reddit-view don't actually see any of the vbulletin-view posters because they're not properly nested (as they usually respond to more than one person).
Thus you, despite having one... THING, have two completely different groups of people responding in a thread. Very few people in reddit-view quote because the context for their post is above due to how nesting works, which makes everybody in chronological lost. As above, people trying to join a standing discussion that use reddit-view will not see hardly any, IF any, of the chronological multi-replies because they don't scroll down.
*sigh* But that is neither here nor there, I'm elated to have quotes that have more function.
