Please, A Better Way to Report Scam Comments in the News Section
Since I've played League of Legends, I've read a lot of News posts and their comments.
Unfortunately, the top comment is occasionally latched onto by a scammer. The scammer reply to the top comment and post his link (hidden by tinyurl or redirectwp or some other redirection site in order to juke the Boards filter) in really big text. Upvote bots will quickly upvote the comment, and a few might comment, "This really works! Thank you!" or "don't worry it is not a scam I got Arcade Hecarim" or stuff along those lines. The upvote bots will upvote these comments too. If a person comments that "That site is a scam!" or "it didn't work, seems suspicious," then the bots will downvote these comments, and might reply to them too, telling the users how they are wrong and that they've gotten great results so far.
Downvotes help and so do the comments saying they're scams, but sometimes these scammers have such a big bot backing that it's really difficult to hide their comments via downvotes. What works is the Report function. We have quick mods who take down the scams quickly when they're reported, but the core problem is that it is really difficult to report these posts because the News page does not have a Report function.
In order to report a post, one must go to the Announcements Board, find the thread and post, then Report it. The Announcements Board is a hidden Board, not shown in the sidebar, so you need to use the search function to find it. (I generally search "patch" to get to it.)
This process of reporting is way too time-consuming for the average League of Legends site browser. The person came to read, not go through an elaborate process to report a scam post. Downvotes and comments are easy to use because the functions are right there, but they're not completely effective. The Report function is completely effective, but it is not easy to use.
Because no one seems to ever report these scam posts despite the extremely high traffic the News pages get (seriously, I don't think I've ever come across a scam post in the News that wasn't removed before I reported it), these scams get a lot of views, and probably end up scamming a couple users each time they're posted.
##We need a way to report these posts straight from the News view, otherwise they'll stay up until a knowledgeable Boards user reports the post.
######Remember, not everyone who views and comments on the News actually uses the Boards.
This option would stop the scammers in their tracks, because people would be likely to report the post and get it taken down before it gets any traction. However, I do see a problem with this. If we put the Report function on the News page, then the moderators might suddenly be overwhelmed with reports, since lots of people read the News and can report any comments. In order to solve this, I recommend restricting the Report option to be only "Report as spam." This way,( ideally,) the only posts that get reported will be the ones reportable as spam.
Thoughts?
######Also, while we're going over issues with the News page, why can one not edit replies that are more than five minutes old? I can edit them on the Boards whenever I want. This "feature" of the News makes most people post follow-up replies to correct something in their posts, which unnecessarily increases the amount of posts.
