Why is Riot INSISTENT on making sure that no mission involves Twisted Treeline?

I don't get why so many of the missions they do seem to purposefully exclude Twisted Treeline. No mission has acknowledged Twisted Treeline's existence. Many missions have excluded it arbitrarily. VS. had some SR missions and a HA mission, but no TT mission. Snowdown had a SR/ARURF mission, a HA/LOTPK mission, a SR mission, and 2 HA missions, but no TT mission; in other words, there was a mission for literally every available mode except TT and customs. Many other mission sets had SR-only missions, but no TT-only missions. Season 2018's Prepare for the Journey missions were acceptable, but this first mission of The Journey Begins is what inspired me to make this post.

  • The Journey Begins (1 of 2): Play a game of Ranked Solo/Duo OR Play a game of Ranked Flex on Summoner's Rift

Why does this mission have this arbitrary "on Summoner's Rift" crap tacked on? Why can't it just be "Play a game of Ranked Flex"? Is there something so wrong with Twisted Treeline that it shouldn't count towards a mission about playing ranked modes?

I feel like Riot is purposefully ignoring the mode in missions so that the playerbase dwindles so that they can just kill it, because it's less enjoyable to play a mode that one can't complete many missions on (and that one can't get Mastery Tokens on).

Riot could easily not add an arbitrary "on Summoner's Rift" restriction to missions so that they could be completed on Twisted Treeline or Howling Abyss. They could stop with doing warding missions and instead let players use their trinkets in general so that firstly using item 3341 item 3364 counts towards the mission and secondly so that Twisted Treeline and Howling Abyss players have a way of completing the mission by using item 3348 anditem 2052 . For the epic jungle monster missions, like "Kill 2 Barons," they could do something like "Kill 2 Barons/Vilemaws." Heck, they could do something like that for all "Kill [epic monster]" missions, like "Kill 8 Dragons/Vilemaws." Even though it's way easier to kill Dragon than Vilemaw, it still would give Twisted Treeline players some way of working towards completing the mission. Also, I know for a fact that Riot can make two different epic monsters contribute to the same quest because of this mission from Worlds: "Have your team kill 2 Infernal or Ocean Drakes, have your team kill 2 Cloud or Mountain Drakes". It's not a matter of technology, it's a matter of Riot choosing not to include Vilemaw in these "kill [epic monster]" missions. As Minarde pointed out in the comments, another way to do this would be something like "Kill X [epic SR monster]s OR kill Y Vilemaws" in the style of the Snowdown missions. Even for that mission involving killing 10 Rift Scuttlers from PROJECT: Hunters, they could do something involving capturing altars on Twisted Treeline.

These are some relatively easy solutions that Riot could have implemented to make their missions more Twisted-Treeline-inclusive, but they didn't, and I'm mad!

The reason not many people play TT is because of 2 reasons.

  1. Riot massively fked up the game mode when they re made the TT map. The original TT map was far more balanced for all types of gameplay. The new TT map was "supposed" to balance everything better, but all it did was heavily favor snowballing champs, and bruisers, while sticking the biggest dicke ver in the asses of everything else.

  2. RIot ignores TT like a plague. Especially with these missions being a thing now, so not only do patches/balances, and everything else gets ignored, but now missions are ignoring TT.

  3. I think Riot is trying to assassinate TT, just like they did with Dominion, Dominion was just easier to kill off because it was new and not well established yet.

Honestly? I think Riot wishes they hadn't made Twisted Treeline at this point. They ignore it patch after patch. And why shouldn't they? It gets the least amount of traffic out of any other game mode. Why waste time and resources on something almost nobody plays?

That's not to say people don't play it. I know there are diehard fans of it out there somewhere, just like there were with Dominion. But at the end of the day, I can't help but feel like TT is awaiting the same fate as the Crystal Scar

Riots refusal to expand maps is part of the problem with league of legends. Say what you want about Heroes of the Storm but it has 14 maps and each one favors certain champs in different ways.

Maybe if Riot spent more money on hiring developers to balance characters and make new map designs, and less on renting stadiums for their Esport spectacles, League might be a healthier game with some of the characters that are out of favor finding a niche on different maps.

But what do I know [zombie-brand-clap]

I'm surprised more people don't play TT considering, last I checked, bruisers were great on that map and it seems like a lot of this board wants to play bruisers.

It's fine. I wouldn't want somebody to just pop into my game to finish a damn mission and not bother to learn how to play the map.

because i wouldn't touch any mission with a 10 foot pole if it was on twisted treeline.. and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

TT winners are decided much quicker than SR, the game mode is unforgivingly brutal.

Vilemaw is scarier than baron etc.

I wish they tweaked it and implemented more monsters like vilemaw, TT is terrifying and honestly I dont understand why they ignore TT there are so many good opportunities they could use to gain a profit from the gamemode.

However mission wise, I believe since the game is not very easy and the fact that mobile champs are pretty heavily favored in such a map (Especially newer champs are quite op on the map due to very obvious reasons) they stay away from it. They havent really looked at it in a long time so therefore certain champs will smash and dominate in it over others.

Simply put TLDR: Riot does not want to touch TT as it's a chore to rebalance and update something that hasnt been in forever, they probably would have to nerf and buff champs specifically because of TT, which would make them less effective in SR. It's too troublesome, so they ignore it.

That title though....

"Why is Riot INSISTENT on making sure that no mission involves Twisted Treeline?"

Whenever you say that they are insistent on doing or not doing something, I start wondering where they insisted that. There is a difference between paying attention to other things VS. willfully ignoring it that thing.

The rest of us have to clamor for their attention the regular way and you should too. make a well-thought-out post about twisted treeline and why it deserves missions, and get a discussion going about it. If you do so then by all means, you will have my support.

But don't make bullshit claims like your title about Riot 'willfully ignoring something' just because you are pissed that Riot isn't paying attention to the issues that you want them to. That is manipulative and playing dirty, and it is probably why they haven't come to comment on your post.

Damn I'd love to see the 6v6 TT Map again as a rotating game mode. That was such a blast!!

Do you think Riot stays in heaven because they, too, live in fear of what they have created?

Bewitching Zoe1/17/2018, 4:41:10 AM1 votes

They have given several missions that had play that mode as optional.

Is there something so wrong with Twisted Treeline that it shouldn't count towards a mission about playing ranked modes?

Yep. It exists. Or rather, it's not SR or a clone of SR. And that makes it an eye sore.

But look a the bright side! Riot will never can a game mode that has a healthy queue, "Like SR, ARAM, and rotating game mode." (>_>)

Moonscourge1/17/2018, 9:05:32 AM1 votes

Because they don't want to force anybody to play a different mode. It works with featured game modes because most people check them out anyway, making sure they get some form of reward to get them more into it or just get a short break from the usual.
