Whether or not it's a good thematic lunar revel background, I think the Kat background really makes Boards much nicer.
I'm still trying to put my finger on exactly what I like about it -- at the moment I think it has something to do with how it contrasts with the turquoise background.
Thoughts?
Daen2 votesA big part of it is that it actually has...color. The standard background for the Boards has exactly the same color scheme as the content, so it all kind of blends together. We have some warm colors like red and yellow in the Katarina background, and it (imo) provides a much-needed enhancement to the color palette.
Serevas2 votesI think you're spot on there. Blue and Red have a very classic contrast to them, in just about every way. People think of Hot, Fire, etc, they think of Red. People think of Cold, Cool, Water, they think of blue.
Whether people know it or not, things like that, I believe they're called stark contrast, actually cause you to focus more and people naturally find it more attractive. There's a whole science behind it that's really interesting to delve into. It's why lighter skinned people look better in dark colors, and the inverse is true as well.

Daen1 votesIt's still somewhat dark, but it's also a pretty distinct improvement over the background being the exact same color scheme near the top and totally black lower on the page. Just my opinion of course, but I would much rather be seeing purple and yellow in the background as opposed to black.

disregardable1 votesOn mine, it has two portion in the middle that's brighter purple than the rest of it. It's not brighter as a whole, just brighter in two spots.

I have a high-resolution monitor, which makes most things rather small, so I zoom in so as not to strain my eyes. But the background (everywhere throughout the League of Legends website) does not resize to match.
