Howdy!

As you may have seen, we've updated the Boards to better support access and readability in mobile browsers. We hope you get a chance to check it out and post any feedback (or bugs...) here :)

Thanks for taking the time to check it out, and we hope you like it!

Christmas in July! :D

Make the site remember the toggle setting between the original view and the mobile view, like what you've done with sortings? That would be nice.

Loading every single page twice because I have to press the "Switch to full site" gets annoying after a while.

Cynicatt7/18/2015, 2:10:26 AM7 votes

I don't like it, honestly, it's kind of counter-intuitive. I like to respond to things and upvote as I scroll, now with this version I have to hit the link at the top of the page to view the full site every time I load a new page. And if I didn't hit that link and scroll down and see something I want to respond to, I have to scroll all the way back to the top to hit that link.

I'm not going to ask you to get rid of it, but I would like it to save my preference of mobile or full site so I don't have to hit this extra link on every page.

The load time is exactly the same on mobile and full site versions, so I'd say at current the mobile version is a tad superfluous.

One thing I did notice is that the site's login process changed recently. I assume you did that for mobile? If so, thank you. Login on mobile was a pain before that change.

Hm, it's really neat that you guys are getting somewhere on the Mobile version of the site. I mean, I know it's still WIP in general, but I hope you are taking feedbacks carefully as well. So far...

The Pros:

  • Scrolling across entire threads with ease
  • Definitely faster loading time. It's not as fast as I'd imagined, but at least it's something.
  • The "-" button thing to hide certain posts is sweet.

The Cons (and possible suggestions):

  • No voting system
  • Discussion view looks like a disaster to read especially when it has 5+ levels of comments
  • Why do we have to scroll all the way down just to access the Boards navigation? If it was a drop-down list, then we can actually put that hamburger thing on every page for easier access as well.
  • Think we can implement a "Red tracker" kind of thing?
  • No way to access "boards profile" and the like. Would be just as nice when it's part of the drop-down list of Boards navigation.
  • I know it might be some kind of "programming WIP" kind of thing, but like what others said, we are constantly being forced to be redirected to mobile site when browsing on boards even after switching to desktop version.

I hope this sums up pretty much everything.

Things are updated! We now present Boards on Mobile v3!

Included in this update:

  • Option to switch to Full Site that persists
  • Option to switch back to Mobile Site (below Red Tracker link)
  • Hamburger icon is now a popout menu

Small QoL changes:

  • Title fonts are smaller
  • Space for leagueoflegends.com nav bar at the top is preallocated so content doesn't get "bumped" upon load
  • Back to Top functionality
  • Horizontal scrolling removed wherever it was found

Please feel free to drop us any comments or thoughts here, and thanks for all the feedback so far!

You should have waited until posting was finished. A mobile discussion board on which YOU CAN'T ACTUALLY DISCUSS is incredibly stupid. Also, the View Desktop Site is one of THE main functionalities of a mobile site and you couldn't even get that to work. It's literally one cookie that needs to be added.

Also, copied from my thread: I cannot tell if I am logged in. I cannot make new posts or threads. I cannot upvote or downvote. I cannot see upvotes or downvotes. The View Full Site link has no cookie so you keep on getting put back on the mobile site. The menu scrolls you down to the bottom of the page. It should be a hovering menu. The site isn't 100% wide, there's empty columns down the side, no matter the screen orientation. The main site needs a View Mobile Site button. The site should go straight to mobile and change to the mobile site or not, according to the user's cookies and settings. View Full Site and the name of the board you're in are far too close together - it's very easy to miss-click. Mobile site loads slowly, not much better than the full site. The page will often load in bits. Many a time I clicked on a menu item, only to be redirected elsewhere because something else loaded. The hamburger menu should open up a floating UL positioned above the main content, rather than directing you to the bottom of the page.

Awesome work you all are putting into the Boards lately! I don't usually bother browsing the web on a mobile device, but still, having it available is nice.

I do, however, still want the old Navigation bar back to its old and significantly superior functionality.

Looks ok so far. But there are some problems

  1. The menu button shluld be a drop down menu, not a redirection to the bottom of the page. That redirect is just sloppy and bothersome.

  2. The whole thing should have been delayed tell it was closer to being finished. Theres no mobile login, no way to interact with the board, and even the display of the board is missing information as noted by previous comments.

Im happy you are finely putting out a mobile friendly version, but there is no point to forcing us to deal with it tell it is actually useable.

Hi, major mobile user.

I hate tapping "full view" every damn time. I hate the fact I have to do that to already do the long, roundabout way to get to the Roleplay section. I use mobile so regularly, I use it more then my computer due to real life.

Please allow me to opt out.

Alright, I got a few more little dealies to throw at ya, Baconhawk!

So, the little button on the top left of the page that you're supposed to poke to get to the forum navigation? The one that's three little beige bars? Another potentially OCD thing, but I feel like it should be moved to the top left of the page.

http://i.imgur.com/8NrKt94.png

Alternatively, instead of having all the sidebar navigation at the bottom of the page, you can have it so we can scroll left in order to see all those links. But that's not really necessary, just something to contemplate.

Also there seems to be a lot of wrong thread loading for me. I tend to sift through threads before the page is completely and 100% loaded, which is probably the reason. It seems like its fairly easy for it to pick a thread above or below the one I actually wanted to poke at. There seems to be a few little things that load just after the rest of the page to cause things to shift around just enough for me to miss the actual link for what I want to view, if that makes sense... Namely the navbar, as well as the new post notifications on threads.

Another thing, I think the font might be a little too big for posts as well.

http://i.imgur.com/C3dnj8l.png

That's as zoomed out as I can get, btw. I imagine this looks fine on larger screened phones, but on mine I kinda wish I could zoom out just a little bit more. Might need to do some aspect ratio adjusting for us people who like to live in the past and use Galaxy s3's still. d=

And I am also, unfortunately, going to have to express my annoyance with the default forced read only mobile nonsense. Its cool and great for maybe an opt in testing sort of thing, but as some one who also likes to post while on a phone it gets a little annoying to have to switch to the main site on every page. I'm sincerely hoping this was a temporary dealy and not something we need to stick through till you guys implement posting features. .__.

I can do without the upvotes and such just yet(though wouldn't mind having them) but the lack of posting makes it hard to enjoy the feature to its fullest potential.

I do understand that testing and receiving feedback is a necessary process for stuff like this, but I would also recommend having the option to keep the desktop page and leave the read only stuff for opting in.

ManiacalCoin7/17/2015, 7:57:09 PM3 votes

I just went on my phone to see how it looked and it looks great on a phone with a big screen (I have a Galaxy S4) so great work guys! no more item 3070 for me when i try to go on mobile

ArkenStorm7/17/2015, 8:10:41 PM3 votes

Hey thanks for this, makes it easier to see :D

ModCaptainMårvelous7/17/2015, 8:13:33 PM3 votes

I'm not even happy about the mobile boards.

I'm ecstatic about the hamburger!

Phoenix Kotori 7/17/2015, 8:18:26 PM3 votes

omg I can actually login and read stuff without having to zoom on stuff on my phones, thanks rito!

DrCyanide7/17/2015, 9:13:36 PM3 votes

I look forward to using this extensively! I tested this slightly on the PBE Boards, and it was so nice not to constantly be clicking on the wrong thing!

Some things I'm noticing are conspicuously missing, even from a Read-Only mode:

  • No threads have Rioter replies. Or, to be more accurate, no threads show that a Rioter has replied. I'd suggest moving the icon to be above the # of Comments counter.
  • No Upvotes/Downvotes. Since it's read only, there doesn't need to be a way to interact with them yet, but it would still be nice to see them. My personal thought is that for the Boards Home have the number of up/down votes below the number of comments, and that the mobile version just won't have a way to up/down vote from the Boards Home. For comments, maybe put them after how long ago they were posted?

I realize as I was looking through the mobile site that the "# new" is taking up that space. Out of curiosity, does anyone here look at that? I think the most functionality it has for me is reminding me I visited that thread on a different device.

Edit: I've noticed one big problem. Due to not being able to vote/see votes, when I open a thread I almost always try and click the "Switch to Desktop View". On many threads (especially longer ones with longer load times), me taping the screen coincides with the page banner loading, shoving the content down and making me press the board name instead, yanking me away from the thread.

ofc2000alex7/17/2015, 9:44:46 PM3 votes

I'm not sure I like this new mode, since it forces you to choose "go to full site" (not verbatim) on every single page, but I like that you guys at riot are addressing some issues for mobile users! I'm looking forward to more steps forward in regards to the forums. Down with runeglave in every lane!

MrJanglez7/21/2015, 1:10:50 AM3 votes

Yes finally i could read them on the go. Thank you Riot.

Kei1438/12/2015, 5:23:33 PM2 votes

I tried to view the forums on with my Blackberry and all it does it is show me the frames of the forums. No text at all.

KING ATTILA7/18/2015, 3:49:08 PM2 votes

This mode is garbage. Please use your resources and time on stuff that actually matters -.-

Only Faker Zed7/29/2015, 2:45:09 PM2 votes

Hey, some ideas to improve your mobile boards!

  1. Able to see upvotes! I can see which post is at the top, with most likely the most amount of upvotes, but I think it would be even easier if there was actually a number, or a possibility to upvote that post or thread! (Possibly there is a way, but I have not logged in to the mobile site.)

  2. Another thing is the amount of views a thread has received. It is not possible to actually see this fact without changing to "Full Site" mode, along with upvotes. Its a pain to actually change between the mobile site and full site, otherwise, it would be useless to actually have a mobile site, if the critical points of a thread is not there.

  3. Another thing that could be possible is an actual mobile app, I'm sure it won't be that tough to be made since you have a broad and large group of coders at Riot. This however can be incorporated along with an in-game application, which should not be that hard since there is already one online, yet unofficial.

patmax178/3/2015, 8:39:55 PM2 votes

first, thanks for the mobile boards, I'm finally able to enjoy boards when I'm on the way to work :)

Are you going to implement rioter roundown? I wasn't able to find it when I read Morello's AMA

SmokedAlmonds7/22/2015, 11:54:39 AM2 votes

I have a galaxy note 4 and I do like the landscape view. But Id like to be able to look at it portrait to see more threads at a time and despite the fact that screens are twice as tall as it is wide in portrait I only go from being able to see 5 threads to 6. For some reason the boarder around the boards is actually BIGGER on the sides in portrait mode even though you have much less horizontal realestate. Really I would like to see that empty space mostly if not all removed from both views. Vote counts need to be lowed to the line instead of being vertically centered so that threat titles can extend over top of it it. Pictures previews need to be shrunk or removed all together(id love an option to disable them even on the normal web version as well).

Definitely positive steps though, especially the login and notifications.

Keppa7/23/2015, 6:55:41 AM2 votes

I think it would be best to disable the mobile view until I can actually do things on it. Please for the love of god, I have to press the switch to full site almost every page.

Big Bang Bob7/23/2015, 7:25:00 AM2 votes

I would like to take a second to compliment you for choosing such an epic name. :)

OhBoyItsaMegaman7/23/2015, 6:13:02 PM2 votes

There isn't a single thing that I like about the mobile version. I want the same experience on my phone that I have on my desktop.

  • I can't see whether I'm logged in
  • I can't see if I have any notifications
  • I can't upvote or reply
  • I can't view other posters' match history or badges on their profile
  • I can't easily navigate to another board

You'd have to make all of these things just like the full site in order for me to use the mobile version, and even then, what advantage is there?

exiledFromBadmen7/23/2015, 8:01:50 PM2 votes

BLU Medic7/21/2015, 7:52:04 PM1 votes

Any word on when the mobile site will be actually functional?

Because I can no longer use the LoL boards on mobile. The current state of it has absolutely ruined the mobile use of this site.
