Exact posting time and date on threads

Hi guys & gals,

I just noticed this, sorry if anyone else has commented on this before. For anyone that was not aware, when you hover over the "about x y ago" area on a given thread (with a red square around it in the picture), it gives a long and complex string that seems to reflect the exact date and time of the original post:

For anyone that can't see the picture, here's what it says:

2014-08-01T18:17:12.324+0000

Is this intended to have a purpose, or is it a bug that was never supposed to be visible?

I assume it is intentional. It is a very precise timestamp, albeit not really human readable. I wonder if it'll be easier to read in the future? It is probably stored in the database in that format and they just pull it out as-is right now.

A similar feature was recently added to Reddit, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is intentional.
