Suggestion: Drafts

Hyrum Graff··4 votes·175 views

Before I go and make the post I wanted to make, I need to make this suggestion. This is the 4th or 5th time I've written a substantial post, or a reply to a post, and then accidentally closed my tab or hit the 'back' button in my browser.

Is is possible for you to implement a 'save as draft' feature, or even a 'current draft' (only capable of saving one post or reply at a time, so if we hit the back button, we can hit forward again to retrieve our post) feature?

Cheers,
Hyrum Graff

The dreaded backspace swipe when for w/e reason I'm not in the text box has gotten me many a time, sympathies. While I would love a feature like this I believe you would run into the problem of storing the information, but I'm also not even close to an authority on coding like this so....eh?

I know on some sites (including the old vBulletin forums, I believe), if you hit 'back' and then forward again, your text is preserved (which has saved me many a catastrophe). That feature is all I'd really want, since those are the majority of situations where I lose my post.

I'll admit I never ran into that situation in vBulletin. Sounds like it would be stored in the RAM the same way a page is saved for back/forward, which could be just how the page is coded (to constantly incorporate new text) or how it's coded to interact with exiting the page in itself (quick 'autosave' right before you leave). Or I could be completely wrong, lol. But if it exists already, I agree that would be a great addition. Maybe activate whatever strategy it is that's decided on after a certain character limit?

I do think it's stored in RAM; I have no clue about the technical limitations, I just wanted to put this issue on the radar.
